Kristi (kristicoleman) Ok, here we go!! What are your thoughts on this section??

Linda | 1425 comments I read this section really quick, it sure sucked me into the book! My first thoughts are:

1) I felt really bad about the woodchuck - I liked how S.K. let us into the little woodchuck's mind as he was walking down the road (I chuckled), and then I was saddened when he was cut in half, although I knew it was coming.

2) The murder scene was really quite violent. I wasn't expecting something like that to happen so when the situation spiraled out of control I was a little shocked.

I had to stop myself from reading ahead, I didn't want to forget where our discussion stopped for the week. We'll see how I do, though, because I can see how it is definitely going to be a quick read.

Silver Yes, this section did go by rather quickly. I think it was really interesting seeing the progress of the dome as it began to come down. I liked all the little details, of seeing how everything/everyone was impacted by the event.

So far I am finding the story to be quite interesting, and I am really captivated it is so easy to just want to keep reading. I like the way in which King is able to provide so much details and give such a wide picture of the town, and the people, and such minute little things like the woodchuck, and yet do so in a way that does not drag, or become tedious. I do also enjoy how the reader is offered multiple points of view. We get to see into the minds of each of the characters.

Kristi (kristicoleman) I agree with both of you, I'm really enjoying this book, it really just sucks you in! I loved the way S.K. writes! there is so much imagery and detail, like the thoughts of the woodchuck, and pretty much the thoughts of all the characters effected when the dome comes down.

Zulfiya (ztrotter) I just finished Doctor Sleep yesterday, and today is the day of the new Stephen King adventure. As usual, his favorite setting is a small town in Maine, populated by very different people, and the main evil is not supernatural, but human. The scene of madness and homicide was very graphic but also believable. The other scene of death when a woman dies of bleeding is very sad but also tragically beautiful.

And yes, some of the scenes made me chuckle a little bit. By the way, I like how King personifies the animals: pronouns he and she were used to name some wild animals and even some semblance of thoughts.

My husband read the novel some yeas ago, and he also told me that it was the most political novel King ever wrote:-) King, as it is widely known, is a very outspoken liberal, so let's see how it all turns out in this novel.

Kristina (kristina3880) You guys said it all. Its a huge book and in just 43 pages SK gave an overview that was descriptive and yet not boring. I think this is going to be a great discussion and read.

Deana (ablotial) I agree that this section went by very quickly! And although he did murder the girl, I can't help feeling bad for Junior... true, what he did was truly awful but with I feel like it's not all his fault due to the undiagnosed brain tumor (how awful!). Though I guess it seems he was somewhat violent all his life, probably before the tumor came, but wow - tumors do change people... and as someone who gets migraines occasionally, the pain that King described really hit home for me. And of course, now he's stuck in this small town with a doctor who doesn't know crap about brain tumors (or even suspect that is the cause)! Ugh!

I also liked how we got into the woodchuck's head. Very cool perspective.

Excited to read the next section!

Glynis (missgmad) | 0 comments Ooh I missed voting for this one. I love Stephen King so will join in soon. Still reading Wolf Hall! Looking forward to this.

Glynis (missgmad) | 0 comments Wow this is going to be an exciting read. I liked the various perspectives within the same timeframe too. The murder scene was horrific and I have a feeling Junior will get away with it, what with the authorities being inundated with dome related calls. What is the dome? And how will people get along with each other within it, with limited resources to hand? These are my thoughts at the end of this section. I can sense the claustrophobia of life in a goldfish bowl already! Can't wait to find out what happens next.
