Haha! Exactly how I do it. I leave it alone for about 6 months and then go back to it so I can skip all the boring parts, lol. Think the last time I read Naruto was last year around this time, too.

Oh! I read RK when I was in high school, borrowed from my big bro. Loved Nodame Cantabile. I come from the other side; I browse manga and get interested in
the anime.
Almost done Genshiken (up to whatever's been scanned and loaded to MT), about to start 1/2 Prince.
BTW, is it US thanksgiving yet? Happy thanksgiving!

I go both ways I look about in my Library and see what they have or on manga fox. But you can't go wrong with anima, or just seeing what is on adult swim.

One more week to Thanksgiving and I'm not looking forward to it since I have to work. But I will have the house to my self and am hoping to get some reading done.

So I have finally found time to read GENSHIKEN, the first few chapters I was not sure if it was for me or not. But after I read the whole book I found my self really liking it. I'm not sure what about it I like just there, I just started book two and ill have to report back and let you know what I find.

Genshiken is definitely one of those stick with it and you will be rewarded manga. I really admired the art style so even though the beginning felt weird to me too, I stuck with it and ended up really enjoying it... although I wonder if it suffers from success. What I mean is that several volumes into the story, they introduced a lot of characters that seemed more like typical fetish fuel rather than real people... characters just to move the plot along in case it got bogged down (like Sue and Kanji's sister.)
But I did like the character development. It was funny how the group changed depending on who was the President. Or how some people are almost coerced into doing things they'd rather not (The President!)
Started reading 1/2 Prince. Finished vol 1 and feel ambivalent about it. It's target demographic seems to be young shonen so the chapters seem rather disjointed... kind of just showing you, episodically, the typical experience of any MMORPGer like World of Warcraft. I'll read at least a few more volumes before I decide.
I wonder if it's the art style that prejudiced me, because I know I can get taken in by great art and weak plot, but when the art isn't as pretty,... haha yeah.

EDIT: Read Vol 2 and parts of 3. The story definitely did pick-up. I think it was because the majority of the first volume I sort of found kind of insulting as a woman, and that the plot... well it really seemed more like a montage of stereotypical MMORPGer scenarios, with even a Leeroy Jenkins homage.
The introduction of the tournament and also finally meeting a clanmate in RL was sort of funny (too bad it was Gui, lol.)

what's there to judge? I loved the series... i even played the "love hina simdate"

I was just being silly. Well, that and the fact that the series was an unrepentant harem manga; not what you'd think of as feminist reading. Actually quite disempowering in many respects iykwim... but it still hit me right in the sentimental spot.
WAIT. There was a simdate?!?!?!?

Not judging but I'm laughing with you.

during the day, she's sweet, confident, sparky, gorgeous, and popular. when she gets home, her switch is "off" and she becomes a sloth, a gamer, a nerd, a sweat pants wearing geek.
i had some misgivings before i watched it. when i did, i was HOOKED!! it was catchy (the music), hilarious, cute, sometimes disturbing, but cute.
unfortunately the manga hasn't been translated yet...boooo
the other manga i LOOOOOOOVE : OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB!!

The manga is a really fun read, if you can give the manga a go.

you started the series?

Ota-sume is... well I have mixed feelings about it. It's definitely kind of a Maison Ikkoku version of Genshiken, almost. It also left a lot of logical issues to me (such as why is a high-schooler working as a manager of a tenant block? Why does every manga have to have some big-boobied chick? Why do they have so many cliches?) Also, Niichi-san is a pedophile, WTH. Ker-reeeeepy! Worse, it's a standard joke in the series, and although he gets slapped down by practically every character,... well, as a plot device, it's a little old, especially 5 volumes into the 11 or 12 volume series (but of course there's the "more to him than just pervert stuff" vibe, which annoys me to no end.)
I read Battle Angel Alita: Last Order #1! My eyes are shiiiiiining! Gally/Yoko is sooooo coool. Seems to be occurring alongside the other main storyline.
Going to read Switch Girl #1 tonight.
Rainbow Loom is taking up a bunch of my time; I'm teaching it to my kids.

I have read pretty much everything by Rumiko Takahashi including Maison Ikkoku, I have to say I love Inu Yasha and Ranma. Its sometime hard to grasp the old cliches in mangas that are both of a different time and culture, examples being high-schooler manager a tenant block. Other trade mark thing about mange genra is the cliches, some are funny and you just have to shake your head at. Other you just think to your self a man wrote this, the big-boobied chicks is the perfect example. The whole pedophilia being fun I have a hard time with but can depend on how it was written.

My partner absolutely loves Ranma, but couldn't stand Maison Ikkoku or Inu Yasha. I think I also read One-pound Gospel and Mermaid Saga, but couldn't stand Urusei Yatsura. Ota-sume is funny enough for me to keep reading (like trying to turn the landlady into Kyoko from Maison Ikkoku *snicker*) and they just entered the story arc for her back story (flashbacks being another cliche plot device, lol.)
I'm having a hard time with Switch Girl though. It reminds me of another mangaka's style, but the story is a bit tired. I'll keep reading; it hasn't completely turned me off (it usually takes some serious issues for me to abandon a series.)

Here's a link with a better description than I can muster at the moment.
Little White Mouse Description

Have a great New Year everyone!

Have a great New Year everyone!"
Happy New Year as well! It sucks that I have to work.

Have a great New..."
I had to work the day of and the next day at 5am it really sucked. But i'll just have to have to make up for the fact with along weekend.

It's -13F over here and I am working. The streets are all ice. Passed by a bunch of cars in ditches on my way to work, probably the same on my way home.

5am? And today working at home then on site? what do you do?
My lovely partner got me something really dangerous for Christmas: a cotton candy maker (I am abysmally uncontrollable when it comes to candy floss!) Worse, you can use any kind of hard candy. So far, I've made candy canes (all holiday), darjeeling, green tea and yesterday was Werthers. Tonight, I'm letting the kids choose which coloured lifesavers.
Looking forward to some hot congee. Comfort food on a cold winter day! ^_^
Finally finished Ota-sume and OMG DID NOT LIKE THE ENDING! Or rather, did not like Nozomi-sempai, the mother of Kanau. GRRRRRRRR! Still gets me mad when I think about it!

If your interested her is your page I have put to gather so far: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Cotton candy maker, that sound like such a bad/good idea.

Lifesavers were a bad idea for sure. It's been a while since I craved them but while they were really pure and fluffy, they tasted really really horrible. Salty even!
Well, I'm still on the hunt for good hard candies!
BTW looked at your local author. Cool! Makes me want to read her stories now that I have a personal connection iykwim.
Started reading

Director Mamoru Hosoda's Wolf Children! If you like Miyazaki films you will probably enjoy this anime as well. I also heard that Hosoda's anime Summer Wars is very good as well but have not seen it yet. I found Wolf Children in Comcast's On Demand feature.

Also, if you like Bleach: Diamond Dust Rebellion. I think it was the second Bleach anime movie to come out.

Thanks! I will have to see both of them. Like Haikufall I also heard good things about Frozen - even from a person who went in thinking it would only be "okay" and ended up really liking it.
Also, I am looking for manga recommendations for manga that focus on college age or older characters. Meanwhile I am still reading Black Butler as it comes out in English - I am up to volume 15 :)

SO, like josei or seinen?
Honey and Clover? Love Hina? 10, 20 and 30? 8-banme no Tsumi Kimi was Peto? Nodame Cantabile? Nana? Hyakki Yakoushou... Itadakimasu... Usagi Drop...
If you like historical dramas, Emma, A Revolutionist in the Afternoon, Basara, Buddha, Ni no Hime no Monogatari...Rurouni Kenshin?
If you aren't easily scared or grossed out, Uzumaki, Monster, DeathNote, Berserk...
Um... that's all I can recall right now.
