Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments I love goodreads. I will start by saying that. I have found tons of books I have loved but I get caught up in reading reviews and looking at ratings. I hardly ever pick up a book that I haven't looked into. I want someone to suggest a thriller for me and I will read it blind.

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments No modern military thrillers please. Just can't do it :)

Marie-Jo Fortis | 118 comments If you like satire and comedy in your thrillers, may I suggest my own, Chainsaw Jane, which got the thumbs up from Kirkus Reviews. Check for yourself and see if it tempts you: http://www.amazon.com/Chainsaw-Jane-M...

If it does, I'll be delighted. If it does not, good luck in your search.

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments Is there a kindle version for sale?

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments Thanks folks. Got me a copy of the sleep police (kindle version was cheaper. Sorry Marie-Jo)

Jesse Smith (jessesmith) | 2 comments Hi Tim, if it's your sort of thing, try 'The Megiddo Revenge' - especially if you've seen/planning to see the new Tom Hanks movie 'Captain Phillips'. On Amazon etc, etc http://amzn.com/B00F4NP1KW

Carolien (carolien_s) The Kill Artist.

Best of the genre I have recently read.

Heartsick (Gretchen Lowell, #1) by Chelsea Cain Heartsick is an excellent thriller!

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments I read The Sleep Police. An excellent thriller. The Kindle version is less than 4 bucks on Amazon. Here is my review. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I will read the books everyone has suggested and I will let you know what I think. Thanks!

message 11: by Ter'e (new)

Ter'e Crow Lindsay (terecrow) Just finished "Deviant Ways" by Chris Mooney. I really enjoyed it, but then, I am reading my way thru Chris' novels. Wow, this had so many turns. Not for the faint of heart - nor if you oppose the f-bomb. I am totally hooked and recommend Chris whenever I have the opportunity.
Whew!!!!! This one wore me out!!
Enjoy.

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments Thanks for the heads up. It's on my TBR list ter'e. I don't mind dark violence but excessive language bothers me.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) See the following thread for a huge run-down of classic espionage, thriller, action, and adventure titles.

Also, these individual titles:
The Girl in a Swing
Under The Lake
Control

p.s. My god, e-readers are the most disgusting scum ever invented...stay authentic, please!

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments What? Ereaders are the are my favourite invention in recent memory! I don't miss the paper and I never will.

Bonnie (kentuckybonnie) | 17 comments Here's one you may not have heard of lately - The Last Ember by Daniel Levin The Last Ember by Daniel Levin. The action takes place in - and under - Rome. I loved the ancient feel of the locales with the fun action/adventure. I enjoyed it.

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments Thanks Bonnie. It looks good.

Then you don't have much love for books, literature, learning, civilization, your fellow-man, or children, eh? A model citizen. By all means, continue to enjoy your personal luxury toy.

Yes. We eschew all human interaction and just hug our Kindles to warm the cold void where are hearts used to be.

Never have I been better described in one grand hyperbole! I can only imagine what you said about people who traded in their records and 8-Tracks for CDs or their typewriters for computers. I would love to read the transcript. Let me know when the Kindle version is available.

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments Nancy wrote: "How is this relevant to the topic? Come on. Seriously?"

It's not :) I promise to be good from here on out. Regardless, I am still looking for thriller suggestions.

message 26: by Tom (new)

Tom (tommyro) | 35 comments Back on topic, Tim: Thriller is a very large umbrella covering a lot of different subjects. Everything from espionage to corporate thrillers to stalkers and then there all the whodunits - from English drawing room murders to the pulp fiction murder mysteries and thrillers.

What's your particular poison?

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments I like thrillers that deal with crime but not necessarily a police procedural. For example, I like Bruce DeSilva and Brad Parks. Both are crime thrillers with protagonists that are investigative reporters. I like crime thrillers that have strong with development similar to Tana French, S.J. Bolton or Linda Castillo. I prefer dark thrillers but find Mo Hayder to be a bit much.

I haven't read many that have espionage. I did read one Daniel Silva book recently but wasn't overly impressed. Would like a good spy thriller. Beside the Silva, the only other spy thrillers were all Ken Follet novels.

Not interested in medical or legal thrillers. My wife is a nurse and I'm a lawyer. Not interested in what I hear about on a regular basis. Not interested in modern military thrillers or strictly political thrillers.

Would also like to read something that doesn't fit into what I listed above. Is that better? :)

Ty Patterson | 30 comments Tim,

i am a member of A Good Thriller group, and have created an 'Other Authors' there, which has several thriller authors who deserve a reading :)

Robert Crais's Elvis Cole and Joe Pike series are good, as well as his Joe Pike series -these are crime/action thrillers

Charles Cumming has good spy thrillers.

Michael Connolly is the God of crime fiction, with his Harry Bosch thrillers.

Brian Freeman's Jonathan Stride series is a good crime thriller series.

J.A Kerley's Carson Ryder series are absolutely great crime thrillers.

Stephen Hunter's Earl Lee Swagger and Bob Lee Swagger series are fantastic action thrillers and will appeal if you want to read stories about Marines, sniping, long guns and just fantastic action. i have tremendous admiration for him.

He wrote Third Bullet recently which is fiction about possibly the most covered assassination.

i could shamelessly suggest mine too which is an action thriller ;)

I have not tried Robert Crais. Will add the series to my list (I have seen you are a big proponent of his writing) I will check out Cummings as well. I have never read Connolly. I really enjoy Brian Freeman. Kerley is a possibility. Don't think Hunter's books will be up my ally. I will have to check yours out as well ;)

Tim The Enchanter | 130 comments Michael wrote: "The Millenium series (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)is excellent!"

I have read that series.

message 32: by Michael (new)

Michael Weitz | 28 comments The Jack Reacher books by Lee Child are good. Not so much thrillers as mysteries, but not police procedurals either. "Vertical Run" by Joseph Garber was great, too.

message 33: by Laz (new)

Laz the Sailor (laz7) Try Barry Eisler and his Rain series.

Or the Atticus Kodiak series: https://www.goodreads.com/series/6439...

Both are intense shooters with strong characters and convoluted plots.

Fellow Greg Rucka fan here. He hardly gets mentioned when thrillers are being discussed but the Atticus Kodiak - probably the best named thriller character - books are some of the best.

Fabulous list...I'd include CJ Box (Joe Pickett series)and and James Lee Burke (Dave Robicheaux series). Also in the vein of "shameless self-promotion", my Cortlandt Scott series. The Murder Prospect (Volume One) by Lee Mossel The Talus Slope (Cortlandt Scott Crime Thriller #2) by Lee Mossel More Than 100% Dead (Cortlandt Scott #3) by Lee Mossel

Lee -- actually, this isn't the appropriate place for "shameless self promotion." That's why we have an author's corner. You can promote away over there.
