Rachelle (mamachelle07) | 91 comments Is there a thread for this somewhere already? I looked but didn't see one. But I wanna discuss this book! I just finished it, and it was AMAZING!

message 2: by Alice (new)

Alice Reeds (alice_reeds) Really? I've seen so many comments and ratings saying that it is more than just disappointing, so that I'm unsure if I really want to read it...

message 3: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle (mamachelle07) | 91 comments I can see why so many people are disappointed in it. At first I thought I would be to. But the ending is so much more different then anyone expected going into Allegiant. But I really like the way it ended up. I get so bored with books that completely spell out the ending, with everyone one having their happy endings or getting what's coming to them. I like more realistic stories, ones that really make you think and leave the ending so that you're left to imagine what happens next. That is how Allegiant was for me anyway.

message 4: by Cat Gandhi (new)

Cat Gandhi (feedmefiction) (feedmefiction) I liked the ending but on a whole, the quality of writing in Allegiant was highly decreased from the other two books. One of the reasons I enjoyed the first two was because it was simply written, easy to follow and not overly descriptive but Allegiant felt dumbed down to me and moved too fast, not really having a point. It was very anti-climatic to me.

message 5: by JoDee (new)

JoDee Sharp | 5 comments There were a lot of things I didn't like. I can see the point of where the story went, but I just didn't want it to go there :(. Unlike the other two books, it took me a few chapters to "get into" it. However, I did finish it in one day and there were parts I really loved. I just love the romance between Tris and Tobias!

message 6: by JoDee (new)

JoDee Sharp | 5 comments Empty! Part of me feels Empty at the ending of this series.

message 7: by Tawanna (new)

Tawanna I am still in shock after reading the book yesterday. My disappointment with the book is not aimed at the ending, but instead at the explanation of why the factions were formed. I also thought the conflict with the Bureau was not interesting.

message 8: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I personally loved the book. I really think the ending wrapped up the series very nicely. If Roth had actually done a fairy tale ending, even though it would've been adorable, it also wouldn't have felt right. I don't know, it's kind of hard to explain, but I think Allegiant was a worthy end to a great series.

That's exactly what I think too. You just said it much better than I could have. :)

I agree. I was crying at the end, I actually couldn't believe Veronica did that, but I am glad she did. It did make for a better book. This book did feel a little different from the other two. Some of the love scenes between Tris and Tobias felt a little off to me, for some reason.

message 11: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments The more I think about it, the more I love the ending. Throughout the series we see her going through this personal journey, am I selfless? Am I brave? Am I Divergent? In the end, it's that last sacrifice she makes that is the most powerful of all. She had everything, she could have been happy, but when she sacrificed herself for the ones she loved, that was a true act of selflessness.

I think the love scenes showed how the relationship has developed over the course of the series. Because the most development in Four and Tris' relationship took place in this book.

message 12: by Stephani (new)

Stephani (lolitasue) | 94 comments I can't say i hate the ending, but the ending did makes me cry so freaking bad. I started to get really mad, But the ending with tobias (Spolier) zip lining was really bittersweet. I cried but i thought it was good happy moment to end it.

But the ending still pisses me off a lot in ways...i don't see myself re-reading Allegiant for a very, very, very, very, Long time.

(Another Spoiler)
what really got me upset was the fact of the lack of bad guys dieing....like not a single one.

Right now i think i'm still going over shock. I have a lot of mix emotions at the moment.

message 13: by Nicola (new)

Nicola (_beaumoulin) Just finished it and it was AMAZING!! Have to admit I had a little cry at the end though! :( but overall an excellent read! :D

message 14: by Claude (new)

Claude | 1 comments This book ruined the whole series for me. I had been waiting so long for this book and was so disappointed when I finally read it. The writing was not as good as the other two books and I found the story really boring.

message 15: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments The ending was beautiful, especially with Tobias overcoming his fear for Tris. I'm glad it was also only 2 years in the future, I wonder if Tobias would end up hooking up with someone. In Insurgent he said that if Tris sent herself to Erudite than he would never recover, wonder if he still stands to that decision.

message 16: by Dana (new)

Dana I'm sorry if this offends anyone but I hated the book. I don't think you can have the readers so invested in the love story and do what she did. It felt out of place and I feel like Roth did it to look edgy. I now regret ever reading any of these books.

message 17: by Alayna (new)

Alayna Payton | 39 comments I was devastated after finishing this book! I hated the ending, the writing felt forced and the story was choppy. It ruined the whole series for me.

message 18: by Jana (new)

Jana (janatabs) | 5 comments The things I didnt like about the last book was the death of certain people WHO DIDNT DESERVE TO DIE BTW and the epilogue which felt rushed when i wanted more explanation to idk i just didnt want it to end and how it made me feel so shitty when the so called "factions" they had ever since they could breathe were apparently useless outside of the city and that sucks because you grew up surrounded by the belief that your life depended on which faction you chose and then suddenly you cant fucking cope with the information thrown at you that youre merely an experiment and your city is small compared to the goddamn universe you are currently witnessing with your eyes, its a lot to process, also This was a satan made book who destroyed the lives of YA readers everywhere, though i wasnt entirely "disappointed" because I respect the author and her decisions and i dont think she did that to "gain more attention" or anything but this book is evil, i need like a support group to recover from this traumatizing experience

message 19: by Sydney (new)

Sydney | 630 comments I cried more than I ever have reading this book. The end was so beautiful with Tobias but at the same time it's so sad :(

message 20: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I cried so so so much after I finished, went through an intense book withdrawal!

message 21: by Jana (new)

Jana (janatabs) | 5 comments the thing about the book is that is has so many conflicts and i can only deal and concentrate with a few, it looks so messy with so many wars going on and honestly the fringe thing seemed useless to me, it seemed like they introduced it but left it there. The whole GD and GP thing just pissed me off to be honest, like they kind of just inserted it there to fill the gap which felt unecessary and make the characters who isnt genetically "pure" feel like shit.

message 22: by SM (new)

SM I loved it. It didn't end the way I would have wanted but I really think it ended the way it should have.

message 23: by Loren (new)

Loren Secretts | 6 comments I knew I shouldn't have read this thread. Oh, why did my fingers so compulsively click on this?
I'm depressed already and seriously considering NOT reading the book.

message 24: by Missy (new)

Missy | 6 comments I heard about the ending but I read it anyway. I wanted to read it to gather my own opinion. Interestingly, it wasn't the ending that bothered me as much.

message 25: by Emma (new)

Emma I agree! The ending didn't bother me, what really made me annoyed was the fact that (view spoiler)

message 26: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) The ending just.. made me cry so hard.

message 27: by Kaity (new)

Kaity (i-love-books-because-reasons) I like the beginning, and I love all the Fourtris parts. But I just want to pretend that it ended differently.

Same here. I hoped for something else outside the wall. :(

message 29: by cc (new)

cc (caitlinisakittycat) Allegiant was a real letdown for me. Not because of the ending, which was acceptable & understandable if you really understood the world & the characters, but because of the book itself. Roth really dropped the ball with this one: The writing style was less advanced than in Divergent, there were too many plot holes hastily glossed over, the characters' behavior didn't match up with who they were up until that point, the action was always ended abruptly to move on to more boring bits, & the questions being raised since book 1 weren't sufficiently answered. I was just really, really disappointed. I had a difficult time slogging through it & have nothing to show for it on the other side. Yes, Veronica Roth remained true to Tris in the end, but she didn't stay true to her other characters & she certainly didn't stay true to her world. I wanted to love this book, but I was too busy hating Tobias & falling asleep.

message 30: by Tawanna (new)

Tawanna It's weeks later, and I'm still disappointed about the gene explanation.

message 31: by Laura (new)

Laura (blueeyebooks) | 88 comments I have a love-hate relationship with this book (especially the ending). I loved how Ms. Roth was brave enough to end the book with a so not fairy tale ending. A lot of authors would choose to go the safe route and make the readers happy but Ms. Roth really made the ending fit with everything that had happened prior and didn't try to end with a happy ending. I mean it was a happy ending in a way but it was also really sad and it made a lot of readers rage about how horrible it was (I'm including myself in that statement too). However, it was also a very... mature (for lack of a better word)...ending that really resolved the series. Usually, I'm so sad at the end of the last book just because it means the series is ending and I won't hear from my favorite characters anymore. But this book didn't do that to me which is a great feeling. I also hated the ending. I don't want any spoilers in here so I'll just say that I hated the decision Tris makes (even though from the moment they had the plan, I knew she wouldn't let Caleb go). I accepted it after a while though for the above reasons.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I cried.
For days.
And days.
And days.

That is the quickest summarization of my feelings about the ending. But I agree with Laura - it was a brave and somewhat mature way to end the book.

But still.
Cried.
For days.
And days.
And days.

message 33: by Okie Dokie (new)

Okie Dokie | 22 comments I'm reading Insurgent, gearing up to read Allegiant but I also read so many reviews stating it was disappointing. For those who've already read it, do you think it's a "hate it" or "love it" type situation? Or is it something that you may not like but can understand why it's the way it is and you can live with that?

message 34: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I've heard about people who are in between about the whole thing. It really depends.

message 35: by SM (new)

SM I don't like the way Allegiant ended but I thought the ending fit the series well.

message 36: by cc (new)

cc (caitlinisakittycat) I didn't mind the ending... except that it went on & on afterwards. I just thought her writing went downhill.

message 37: by Marie (new)

Marie (spiritedpumpkin) | 2 comments I don't know what to feel about Allegiant, sometimes I hate the book and sometimes I understand it. I cried like a baby when I read the last few chapters.

message 38: by Okie Dokie (new)

Okie Dokie | 22 comments just finished Insurgent & now am really interested in seeing how this story ends. I'm bracing myself bc I feel like there's a lot of doom and gloom to prepare for.

message 39: by Okie Dokie (new)

Okie Dokie | 22 comments I'm done with Allegiant and I didn't care for it. I honestly feel like Roth just tried too hard on this one and it wasn't quite successful or impactful as perhaps she was trying. I have issue with how she massacred Tobias' character, which was unfortunate. There's an in depth review on Amazon by someone named Kala - which describes how I feel about this book perfect.

message 40: by Krista (new)

Krista | 97 comments I finished this book last night and I just don't know how I feel about it. I laughed, creed, and wanted to make some table flips throughout this book. Before this book I really enjoyed this series, but I just didn't feel like this book was the best ending to the series. The new plot twist felt rushed and some of the characters felt off from how they were in previous books. Over all I'm glad I read the books and the second one is my favorite.

message 41: by Janna (new)

Janna (mzhyde) | 470 comments I loved this book, even though I cried a lot. To me Roth did the right thing.
And I agree with Stormy, if Roth had done the fairytale ending it wouldn't have felt right.

message 42: by Justeneee (new)

Justeneee | 7 comments Just finished this book, and was kinda disappointed that Tris died. But it was much more realistic and more realistic of a reaction for her due to her behavior through out the trilogy. Still kinda wish she lived though haha

message 43: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin Torres (kaytorres22) | 9 comments SPOILER ALERT

This is hands down the best trilogy I have ever read. First off, the story line is amazing. Second, the writing is superb. Everything ties together and transitions beautifully. Lastly, the ending is necessary! I love authors who are not afraid to kill off great characters and piss off their readers. I loved Tris, and I cried like a baby when she died, but I loved how the author killed her. It was very Tris for her to sacrifice herself and very realistic that she didn't miraculously come back. Whether you liked the ending or not, I think we can all agree it was memorable... If you were invested in this series, Tris's death affected you. And that's what makes a great writer. It's why this series and writer is so brilliant.

message 44: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jchen123) | 14 comments Allegiant was a real disappointment for me. I LOVED divergent and I did like insurgent as well, but reading allegiant made me want to go back into time to stop myself from finishing it. The ending?? Was that really the best way to end such an amazing series? And there were lots of little grammatical errors, things that didnt make sense..plot lines that didnt work! The overall quality of allegiant was a lot lower than the others...however I will always love four!

message 45: by Panda (new)

Panda | 2 comments OMG this book was such a disappointment. I mean the outside the fence ... What a total let down , at least for me. And the death at the end was so unnecessary I cried lol. What do u think?

message 46: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Calhoun (bonniescalhoun) | 21 comments ***SPOILER ALERT***
I started off disliking Allegiant because of the two POV's. It was very jarring after having had only one POV for the other two books. And Tris and Tobias's POV's sounded so much alike that I kept forgetting whose I was in and had to keep flipping back to see where I was. I finally just started skimming his POV. LOL...personally I think Tobias was a stronger character when I couldn't hear his whiny internal thoughts.

And I'm sorry...but I thought the ending was unnecessary. They built two books around us rooting for Tris to overcome this and that and then to kill her off in like five seconds sucked!

I'm still ticked. I'll read the first two again, but I won't read Allegiant again.

message 47: by Kate (new)

Kate Heller | 1 comments I loved Allegiant. The ending was so unexpected. I didn't see it coming because I loved Tris so much. I wanted her to have her happy ending. She just had such a big heart for her loved ones that she gave everything up for them. She made me love that much more and I cried and I wouldn't finish reading Allegiant, because I didn't want to know how Four went on living with out her.

Lia, I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who cried so much! Seriously, my family started to think something was wrong with me. I'm glad I didn't buy the book, because even seeing it on my 'to return to the library' shelf makes me sad still!

message 49: by Panda (new)

Panda | 2 comments I agree with not reading it again I mean I just am that ticked about it lol but I loved the first two the death was totally in necessary

message 50: by Cindy (new)

Cindy I cried for a while with the ending, and I was really frustrated with it. But after reading a post Veronica Roth wrote about why she did what she did, it made a lot more sense, and I now see the reasoning. It was the right ending to an amazing series. Tris continually struggled with the whole selfless/brave/divergent thing, but all of is, including Tobias all knew she definitely is selfless even though she didn't always see it herself. In Insurgent, she wanted to honor her parents with a sacrifice of her own life, not really thinking about what she was doing. In Allegiant, she knew exactly what she was doing. She was protecting the ones she loved, which is who Tris really is. I love the ending now, even though it's terribly sad.
