Pick-a-Shelf discussion

Hey everybody,

As we know, the group's moderator, Karen, has been inactive for a while. Some of us have been discussing this issue (see the Is Karen Alright? thread) and decided that we would open nominations followed by a poll to have two associate moderators.

I just want to make it clear that we are doing this not to take over the group, but to keep the group running until Karen returns, whenever that will be. We have attempted contacting Karen but have yet to receive any replies until now, so this is just a step to ensure that the group can keep on going.

So if you think you have what it takes to co-moderate this group, put your name down here. We will then divide the nominees into two groups - Group 1 is for those who've been here from when Karen was still active and Group 2 for those who've only joined after Karen is inactive. This way everybody has a shot :)

One moderator will be chosen from each group so we will end up having two moderators. We're doing this is just in case either moderator cannot be active for a while due to personal reasons, the other can still keep the group running.

I'll keep the nominations open until everyone's Sunday night (14 June 09) and open the polls by Tuesday (16 June 09) Australian time (might be Monday night for the US/early Tuesday for Europe). Feel free to also put forward any suggestions about this matter in this thread :D

Congratulations to Slayermel and Luann. Both of them received the most votes in the two polls!

I'll try to contact Goodreads about granting moderator access to them both (anyone ever done that or know how to do it?) so that soon our new moderators can start getting back to work - congrats again!!

My sentiments exactly! I would be willing to help out, too. This is a great group and I want to help out in any way I can to make sure it continues.

Actually, if I had to pick who I thought would be good, Slayermel and Luann would be two that I would pick. I would be willing to help out any way I can, but since I am so new, I think one of the above would be a better pick for assistant moderator.

I agree with Lyn: Slayermel and Luann would be great; maybe have two mods? :)

Sorry if I didn't make it clear in my initial post. I am planning to have two associate moderators - one from Group 1 and one from Group 2. I hope by doing it this way both groups get equal chance while at the same time the group can keep on going as close as the way it had when Karen was around.

I think we know what the initial post said, but it seems a pity not to take these two wonderful candidates!!!

Everyone that is active in this group does a great job of making sure that everyone is involved, so I really do not know who I would chose.

It's great to see so many volunteers! I am in favour of Slayermel & Luann as moderators with Angela running the Shelf-a-thon challenge.

If anyone needs a hand let me know but it looks like it's well under control!

Angela I 100% agree with you, everyone in this group does do a fantastic job, and I would be more then willing to help you out if you wanted to continue running the shelf a thon :0)

Putting in my 2 cents for Slayermel and Luann and anyone else that can help.

My life is a bit chaotic at the moment (son getting married next week *sniff*) but will be available to help after I recover :P

I think Slayermel and Luann are also great choices. I like the idea of having Angela run Shelf-a-tron challenge. I think we will be in good hands!

Good to see so many committed members while Karen has been away. I really hope she is okay. It just seems odd that she stop coming into GR. She is one of my friends GR and was always so active.

Slayermel really runs it, cuz she keeps track of all our shelves. I just like to post the list and rules :)

Throwing my vote behind anyone willing to take this on : ) Heck, just adding all of our books to the club bookshelf would be a full time job!

I agree with all of the above, Slayermel and Luann are great choices, Angela and Slayermel do a great job with the shelf-a-thon, and everyone else does a great job helping each other. And - as I said before, I am willing to help in whatever capacity you need me.

And yet that's the part I've been itching to do. :) It will be some work getting it caught up now that we're so behind with it.

I did that this morning so hopefully they'll get back to us real soon :)
