Okay so, this isn't actually about Game of Thrones. I've only started the thread in a discussion on this book because I know all of you who have read this book, are highly intelligent and knowledgeable. I know you guys will give me an honest, intelligent answer, and I thank all of you who do! :)

Okay so this is for my friend who is writing a story. Her main characters name is Joey Taylor, but she wants him to be known as Trib throughout the whole book. Trib being a nickname, like after Tribbiani, you know off FRIENDS.

We want to know if this would be allowed, if it's considered copy right or plagiarism? She doesn't have a goodreads account and so I thought i'd post this matter here, you know to get some good answers.

Please help guys! Thanks :)

Line I wouldn't think so, no...

Richard nope, not plagiarism

Thanks, ill let her know :)

Sherry Stevens I wouldn't think so, her character could be similar as long as she doesn't make him exactly like the Tribbiani character otherwise a case could be made for character infringement. As writers, we all allude to other characters, things, and places from our upbringing. Just calling him Trib should not be a problem.

Yeah see she's made the character like a teenager and its his friends that call him that. I didn't know whether or not this would be okay but thanks for your opinion on it :)

Cherie Perfectly fine :) haha just don't name the character Joey tribbiani and then have another character Monica and then a Chandler, etc. ;)

Lesley Arrowsmith And would older characters call him Tribble? :)

LOL! I get that. Does that mean I'm old? :)
