I spent my afternoon picking kids up from school and driving them to swimming lessons, etc. In the process I managed to listen to a fair chunk of Jenny Crys-Williams' book show on 702. Unfortunately I missed the discussion on The Shining Girls.
She had a wonderful interview with Zakes Mda about The Sculptors of Mapungubwe which I need to recommend to the archaeologists. He spoke about how he combined the work done by archaeologists at the site with oral stories from current tribal elders and artefacts in various museums in his research for this book. It sounded absolutely fascinating.
She then spoke about the new 100 best novels list by The Observer.
