Hurtling through the child-infested suburbs which populated the small mining community of Boomtown, Jackson lamented the loss of his youth. Children poured into the street just ahead of him, blissfully unaware of the threat that Jackson’s driving presented. He could only wish he had a small semblance of their ignorance, a brief glimmer of their innocence, as he swerved onto the curb to avoid them. It took every ounce of will Jackson possessed to stop himself from laying on the horn, scaring the shit out of the children that had naively put their lives in his hands. After sending a disgusted look their way, Jackson begrudgingly continued on his journey to the appointment he was now late for.
Boomtown, the backwoods settlement that Jackson had become stranded in during a misbegotten trip to the East Coast, with dreams of Ivy league prestige clouding his usually impeccable judgment, had once been one of the largest coal producers in all of Idaho. If the legends were true, Charles Boom was the lucky pioneer who had stumbled upon the coal all those years ago, a discovery that had allowed the small outpost to flourish, to thrive. So grateful were the settlers that they had named it after the tragic explorer, commemorating his life, death, and service to his people. But those prosperous times were dead and gone, leaving only a desiccated community in their wake.
Hey everybody, recently my sister and I decided to self-publish a short story we've been working on, known as "The Pool Boy." It's a short read, supposedly 29 pages on Kindle, but we think it's pretty cool. We've been collaborating on things for a while, but this is the first time we've actually finished something. Henrietta Mitchell was just the moniker we've decided to use when working together on stuff.
Here is the description: Wanting to be more than society expects him to be, Jackson set out on a journey of a lifetime, only to be trapped in place he had never heard of, Boomtown. Now, so close to achieving his dreams, Jackson discovers a new love in his life, but how much is he willing to sacrifice for her? Join Jackson as he steps into a world he never knew existed, a nightmarish place filled with danger, one where love is his only salvation, a saving grace that could also be the end of him.
It's free until Saturday night, then we are donating a portion of our royalties to charity (though, I'd like your opinion if you think we've priced it to high, after you read it of course). Since this is our first foray into really sharing our stuff with the world we could honestly use some help. If you read it, a review, positive or otherwise, would be nice. If you don't want it, sharing your opinion here is great as well, anything helps really. The link below will lead you to the wonderful world of Boomtown, a place filled with mystery, and weird stuff.
