One choice will define you.

What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

I still haven't read Insurgent or this one so I'll be staying out of here. For once I am not going to look at spoilers. Since everyone seemed to hate the ending I'm scared that if I find out what it is I won't finish the series. So everyone discuss! Did you like the ending?! Did the last book live up to your expectations?

Pamela (waterspout) | 370 comments I haven't even started on this series yet, so I guess that's what I'll be reading this month ;)

Colby (colbz) (view spoiler)

Irena BookDustMagic | 54 comments i'm reading it right now but i'm little bit slow at it because i'm reading some other books beside that.
i'm very curious about the end and i've heard so many complaining about it, but i also read in one group some girl's post that this book has an unique end and because of that that is the best book ever so that gives me hope that maybe i won't be disappointed.

Tanya (tanyata) | 8 comments bought it too. Haven't started it yet, because I am reading Ender's game at the moment (the movie is coming in a week), so it is next in my list :)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 350 comments So much controversy about this one! Either people loved it or hated it, although I'm one of the ones who were right in the middle lol :)

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) (mybookboyfriend) | 247 comments I kind of liked it until the end. And I think she just spoiled the whole series.

T.J. | 109 comments I agree, David. All I wanted was a happy ending for Tris and Tobias. That's it. I don't think that was too much to ask :'(

Jana (janatabs) | 5 comments I've been to a lot of allegiant discussions and i admit not everyone seemed eager in sharing their happy thoughts about the ending, yeah it was sad as fuck no wait saying that would be an understatement it was beyond my vocabulary skills to write down a word synoymn for what i feel right now but the only thing I can complain about is the goddamn ending and deaths, it was like she had a machine gun and the death toll just kept coming out(though im keeping my mouth sealed on that one), it actually has a very good style of writing but no my fangirl heart is broken

message 11: by Jana (new) - rated it 1 star

Jana (janatabs) | 5 comments Atleast its very different from other YA books and though that doesnt quite achieve a sense of "inspiration" others look for it was alright for me. It showed how people deal with loss, how they cope, how they self destruct and it seemed real

Nancy (bubbysmama) | 1 comments Well... I finished. Gotta say, I'm disappointed. Not just by the ending; the whole thing was a big disappointment. Unfortunately, it just didn't seem as well written as the first two.

Louise Kreww | 4 comments For me the ending is "appropriate" but we have different likes/views so I really dont have to convince you that Allegiant is good. But it is. *im weird so yeah* =D

Kevin (betweenmypages) | 56 comments (This is my personal opinion with spoilers)

I think the ending made a lot of sense.
Yeah, the plot and dialogue and Tobias in general could've been improved. THe explanation could have been more interesting without the random convoluted subplots. I didn't think it was as good as the first two, it lost it's "zing", and it was dragged on and some parts were tedious while others were rushed. THe pacing could've been imrpoved, yeah...there were things that were wrong.

However, the big ending thing, I enjoyed a lot. I think of it every day since I read it, which means that Tris and the story have made an impression. Her death was understandable, she proved true bravery and true self-sacrifice. In books 1 & 2 she sacrificed for the wrong reasons and lived, in this one, she did it correctly, and truly sacrificed it all. The ending is sad and bittersweet, but I liked the resolution to the story and how conflicts were resolved.

Cathrina Constantine (cathrinaconstantinecom) | 8 comments I just started reading it. I know the ending which is upsetting...we shall see...

message 19: by Trina (new) - rated it 1 star

Trina (trinabetweenchapters) I'm fine with the ending, I just didn't like how or why it happened. I also found too many holes or issues in the overall plot of this book. There was a lack of mystery, everything revealed right off the bat with no build up to make me care, and a massive info dump of 300 pages all wrapped up without anything actually being accomplished if you really think about it (although, the writing would have you believe things were accomplished because many outside factors were conveniently forgotten or dropped). It just didn't satisfy me or fit my personal tastes.

Cathrina Constantine (cathrinaconstantinecom) | 8 comments Halfway through. A little slow, but enjoying it.

Meag (meagsbooknook) (meagsbooknook) I was disappointed with this book. I did enjoy learning more about Tris' ancestors but I felt like it dragged on.

I think the ending was exactly what it needed to be. Not everyone gets a happy ending.

Kaity (i-love-books-because-reasons) I like the beginning and all the Fourtris parts, but I just want to pretend the ending never happened.

maria. (thecharacterstudy) I'm still not sure how I feel about this book, and I read it last month.
I kind of agree with Meaghan though.

Pat (patiotoole) | 1 comments I LOVED book 1 and 2, and hated Allegiant so much that I doubt I will read future series by Ms. Roth. It would basically be a waste for me to do so since I would be dreading a twisted ending - which is never the kind of book or series in which I wish to invest my time.

I agree about the ending. The more I think about it, the more I am confused by the logic there. (view spoiler)

YES!! I agree, I didn't like it was brought up several times that (view spoiler)

message 28: by Neha (new) - rated it 2 stars

Neha (shearglacier) I didn't read it, but I feel that the endings going to be terrible and with the first two books being great, I hope they don't ruin it. :(

Irena BookDustMagic | 54 comments this book was judt the worst! i can't believe that the same person who wrote divergent wrote this one as well. and the end is not the biggest problem. so what if tris dies? not every series has to have the happy ending. what i have the problem with is the whole plug. like goverment had putted so much money and time to develop this divergent genes and tris is the one special and actually immune to this death serum and this sientices don't do any researches or experiments on her. no, they kill her. and they just leave our protagonists to walk free all the time not even watching them. and don't get me starzed about how david didn't take blame for tris' death. evelyn and four's mother-son relationship is the worst thing in this book. i don't buy it for a moment. i actually hated four in this book. in the first two he was this strong and tuff guy. and in this one he was just a wampy kid. and in some actions just stupid. and peter taking that memory serum, i think the real peter would never do that becouse he is selfish and it is his nature, genes or whatever. there was just too much of that but not well written. and to be perfectly honest with you not one death was hard on me because thr writer was too ficused on the story and not at all on the characters. and the story wasn't developing good eather. i think veronica roth had that great idea and wrote excellent first book but later didn't know what to do with it. i gave it 3 stars just because i really liked divergent.

Philip Irena I completely agree with that is my problem with this book and the big deal divergent is suppose to mean. In the end divergent meant nothing because they still didn't fix the problems with the outside people they just wrapped up four and Tris storyline. Someone should call the cops on Veronica because she murdered Four's character he turned into a complete sidekick to everyone he met. I understand if you want to be trustworthy person, but to just trust everyone is kind of dumb. In the end I did like the end it didn't surprise me because it kind of kept happening in the series where she would risk it all for the greater good, but to ignore the purpose of this series is what drove me away from giving this book a five star rating Divergent one is on my favorites shelf for a reason it was very good; I just wish Veronica spent more time finishing the world she made because it was left with to many holes.

Tracey (addicted_to_reading) i loved the ending. i found out about it before i read the book and it made me more excited to read it. it fit well with the story and i'm happy with how the trilogy ended. now all of my love is getting shifted to the movie adaptation

Leahxx (heyitsleahxx) | 12 comments I can't even think about it without getting goosebumps. The ending left me in absolute pieces. Reading quotes from the books used to make me so excited and happy, but no they just make me want to curl up into a ball and cry

message 33: by Jay (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jay (blithelii) I think the whole series is freaking tragic. And the readers just want a happy ending to end it all. Unfortunately, the author had another idea, a more realistic one. It's war, people (all of my fave characters, WTF) die, all that. I love the series and I've accepted that the heroine died. Though it doesn't changed the fact that I hated Roth for a moment there, while reading those last chapters in Tobias POV, bawling. xD

message 34: by Shen (new) - added it

Shen (Damonish29) | 5 comments so i just finished reading Insurgent, Roth is a genius SERIOUSLY! But I am so disappointed on reading spoilers. I'm scared to read this tomorrow. I mean, I'm a fan of tragic endings but based on the spoilerz I've read. the ending of this one is depressing and traumatic? something to do with Tobias reaction on if-you-know-what-i-mean :((((

Neha (shearglacier) Should I even read Allegiant?!?!

chinami | 794 comments Neha wrote: "Should I even read Allegiant?!?!"

read it. it's hurting but finishing will give this trilogy a closure.

Tracey (addicted_to_reading) Neha wrote: "Should I even read Allegiant?!?!"

you have to read it. it might piss you off but if you've come this far, it's worth it.

Dani | 3 comments If David was just going to shoot Tris in the end she shouldn't have survived the death serum. She made it that far she should have at least lived. If anything I really wished Caleb died instead. All good authors know you can never kill the main character. I cried when I read the 2 years later part because Four over came his fears. So sweet!

agree

Dreamless | 3 comments I enjoyed the first two books but I think the end of this book spoils the whole series. I actually compare it to the hunger games ending, when it comes down to bad book endings, but at least the hunger games made you feel sad; but this book ending was rushed and a but poorly written. Tobias's side of the story was new and sometimes interesting, but I didn't enjoy some parts of it at all.

Sophia (Bookwyrming Thoughts) (hannahsophialin) I just read about 90%. .-.

Oh, and I was nigh on just marking it as DNF

Melinda | 18 comments I didn't hate this book the way I hated mockingjay, but I wouldn't say it was a great way to end to the series. It was like Caleb you're only doing this for selfish reasons so it's not ok to let you die for me, so I'll die for you because I'm only doing it out of love and that's the right reason...um ok?? I felt like Tris had a lot more to live for than Caleb and he was willing to do it. He hated living with guilt, so why wouldn't she let him redeem himself? The book did keep me interested and I loved everything Tris did up until she volunteered for the suicide mission...

Emily Schultz (purple6700) I am about to put my heart out on my sleeve here. First, I just want to say that Veronica Roth ruined my life. She made me fall deeply in love with Tobias and the ending of Allegiant was not what I was expecting. Veronica broke the heart of everyone who read all the books. I got the book the day it came out, at midnight, and throughout the day I read it. I stayed up until three in the morning to finish it. Upon finishing it, I sobbed for three hours. It was one of the worst deaths I have experienced in a book yet. It wasn't just the fact that Tris died, it was also that the whole way back to the airport Tobias was really excited that they can live together forever. For three or four chapters he just couldn't wait to see her. He didn't believe it when Cara told him because he couldn't believe someone he loved so much would do that. The chapter he saw her on the table, dead, broke my heart. I don't know if I really like or dislike the ending, it's sad, that's for sure, but I have no opinion toward the end. It was Veronica Roth's opinion and style and she is quoted saying "I like it when the main character dies." right before the releasing of Allegiant. I caught on and expected it, but I didn't think it would hurt so bad reading.

These are just my thoughts and opinions. Enjoy.

message 45: by Neha (new) - rated it 2 stars

Neha (shearglacier) Yes, the ending was the saddest thing ever. With so many deaths and memory erased Derek (I think that was his name) and Tobias..........•flaps hands back and forth near eyes•

onceuponatimeareview I hated the ending.

Jacqueline | 5 comments I got very teary eyed and well I got angry because of the ending. But in all honesty I was kind of getting bored because tris and Tobias were always going up against someone. I thought Matthew would have been better to go thru with the plan... It broke my heart when Tobias found out about tris... :(
