Nyssa | 1569 comments Nine and a half hours left, and there has been yet another shift in the poll!
I can't believe how excited I am watching this! Rediculous! LOL

[See above post for current standings or please participate in the poll]

I really should be reading right now, but I'm both too tired and too wired at the same time. (Strange how that happens.)

You know, I really agree about the disjointed plot.

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments ^It ends up being and then this happened and then this happened, but if you've read enough folktales it makes sense.

Nyssa | 1569 comments A little over half hour left before the poll officially closes, and I just realized that I had the wrong book tied for 5th this whole time..lol
Its time to get my eyes checked again!!

Other than that, only one other book made a slight move in the polls, but nothing has budged the front runner.

Nyssa | 1569 comments So.. Thanks to the help of friends and strangers my first 5 reads of 2015 will be as follows:

1. The Martian
2. The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (At least Book #1 - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
3. Ancillary Justice
4. Dealing with Dragons
5. The Iron King

Good choices! Umm, if you read the entire Hitchhiker series, don't read the final final book. Stop with the restaurant at the end of the universe, IIRC.

Heh if you want to make a late writ in suggestion just let me know; and Thank You! :)

You can make a last minute write in suggestion as well Mrs. J. You know I always appreciate your input! :) Thank you too, btw.

As for Hitchhikers...I think you are the second, third or maybe even fourth person to make that suggestion. lol

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is book #2.
Mostly Harmless is book # 5 and the original ending.
And Another Thing... is book #6, the "new" ending written by another author, that is apparently terrible and to be avoided at all possible cost! :)
No worries! Message received!!

Right! It is "and another thing" and avoid it, lol.

:-D

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments These are the ones I've at least looked at:

The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
Blood Song by Anthony Ryan
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente
Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede
The Martian by Andy Weir

I LOVED Gardens of the Moon but its the beginning of a 10 book series and its not everyone's cup of tea.

Loved Hitchhikers

Seraphina was fine I just never finished it. Enjoyed what I read but its slow.

Blood Song - did not finish, liked what I read but Becky (and several others) call it "Commageddon."

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making - as mentioned earlier, the writing is very cute and fairytale like but it is disjointed. Its not (so far from what I've read) an action adventure like Narnia.

Dealing with Dragons - loved it! So cute. Great for daughters.

The Martian - haven't read it, barely even the 1st page. But the synopsis reminds me of a movie: Mission to Mars. In the movie there was an accident on the 1st trip to Mars and a different ship has been sent to discover what went wrong. When they got to Mars they find an astronaut thought dead still alive on Mars (Don Cheadle).

I always think of The Martian as "The part of Mission to Mars that tell's Don Cheadle's side of the story."

Nyssa | 1569 comments Thank you!

So your write-ins would put:

The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy @ 16, Dealing with Dragons @ 6 and Gardens of the Moon @ 4, solidifying the spots they're in now. :)

Since Garden's and Dust now have a defined 6th and 7th spot, I may see if I can pull another three from the poll in order to have my first 10 reads.

I'm not sure yet though. For one, I usually don't do very well with predetermined reading lists, and two the 2nd Wrede book is up for a vote over on FoF for February and I'll most likely want to read it if it wins.

I'll see how I feel once I finish The Martian.

Edit: Just reminding myself of the order:

1. The Martian
2. The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (At least Book #1 - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
3. Ancillary Justice
4. Dealing with Dragons
5. The Iron King

The next set would be:

6. Gardens of the Moon
7. Dust
8. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments Maybe you should leave the last few open for moodiness? That's what I would do cause I'm super moody and I end up not reading group reads cause it's all laid out. Or I'm uninterested, lol.

message 164: by Nyssa, Series Addict (new)

Nyssa | 1569 comments That's exactly why I'm so hesitant! :)
GMTA!

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I think the Internet is protecting us from finding a truly terrible book.

Nyssa | 1569 comments I had problems with hyperlinks yesterday. I'm on the app right now so I'm unable to fix it. The book is Earth Abides.
