When I'm not doing that, I'm a English graduate student who studies the African-American skin tone bias (idea that being light-skinned is more favorable and carries more perks in AA community than being dark-skinned) and travel and do random vlogs on my second channel with my friends, which is entitled Flat21Chat.
This vlog is similar to the VlogBrothers videos where the four of us basically write letters to each other in video format and talk about life, social/feminist issues, and random things that happen to us. If you want to follow that channel, here is the link:

I cant wait to learn more about Canadian literature and read more books from this country. I'm currently reading The Handmaiden's Tale (slowly) and would love some recommendations for other Canadian authors.

I'm glad you decided to give us a go, Saoirse! Have you been able to follow along this year? We've had a slower pace so far in 2014 :)

I live in Fort Erie, Ontario. I'm a high school teacher (yup, English). I have always loved CanLit, especially Newfoundland writers (long story, which involves a family history and a rash decision to move to the rock for a year to get close to some of my fav authors - not as creepy as that sounds, I promise).
This may be self-evident already, but I'm obsessed with reading. Glad to be here.
Cheers,
Julie

Hi Julie! So glad you're joining us, and I can't wait to hear all about your year spent in Newfoundland! Let us know if you've posted your story anywhere already where we can read/watch :)

Welcome, Julie! So excited to have you aboard! I can definitely understand that quick decision to move out East. I feel the same pull! My dad is from the Maritimes, but I've never been, and the more I read Maritime writers, the more I feel like I'm missing a piece of home I need to experience. Any author-stalking tips? ;-)

My name is Jenn and I am so stoked to be joining Hello Hemlock!! (My Grampy was Canadian via PEI, but later his family came to the States, about 2/3 are now back in Canada...it calls to us.) I'm from Maine, but always feel like Canada is my second home. I'm looking forward to getting more into Canadian lit, plus it would make my Grampy proud to embrace his roots a bit more.
I have a little (sometimes poorly updated) book blog called Booksessed. I am incredibly lucky/spoiled to work in a small library. I love snowy weather because it is a good excuse to stay in with tea and a book.

I read classics and literary fiction, but not exclusively. I'm interested in local (Edmonton) new work, so theatre/plays, but I'd like to get my CanLit on in books, too. I'm really looking forward to expanding my repertoire!
Also, I really want to read and discuss Station Eleven!!! Like SO hard. It should be coming in the mail relatively soon. Have we picked a book for December? Can it be Station Eleven? Could I do a discussion video for the channel about it?? I'm a little obsessed :D And December would be a good month for me; I basically have it off from school.

WHAT. You live in Edmonton too? Bananas!
We are actually not reading anything in the month of December (to give us all a break!) but Station Eleven sounds like a very exciting selection! We haven't read anything like that, and I've been dying to read it as well! Thanks for the suggestion! We're always looking for guests for the channel! ;-)

My name is Carolina, I am originally from Colombia bu I moved to Montreal 5 years ago. I am still hoping I will get used to winter. I am very happy to have found this group as I really wanted to "work" on my Canadian reading but I was needing the right push and I have found that GR groups are the right thing for me. I'm already part of another book club (Sword and Laser) and it has been very fun, particularly for the discussions.
That's it for now, feel free to visit my profile or blog and I can wait to start reading with you guys!

Hi Carolina! How do you like Montreal? (Besides cold!) We can't wait for 2015 and our new year of #CanLit to share and discuss and read together! Who is your favourite Canadian author so far?

Other than the cold, Montreal is great! So far I love Margaret Atwood and I recently finished Runaway by Alice Munro and loved it too. Oh and Emily St, John Mandel's Station Eleven blew my mind!
I'm Rose (Roos in Dutch), almost 22 and a little bit of an Atwood fangirl. I've only read 3 books ..."
Hello Roos! I am in love with your Dutch name. I'm always jealous when people get two names due to nationality and translations! It's like you're a superhero.
Will you be reading Oryx and Crake with us this month!? Your studies sound amazing and I think it's great that Atwood has been able to come to you. What a dame. I want to hear more about your thesis!
