The Librivox audio for Enchanted April was so good that it just flew. Also, the professional audio of Eleanor and Park was terrific and that one flew, as well.

I think you were interested in both at one time, Holly, so I'm putting it out there.

I'm struggling so far, too, but only until tomorrow (I hope) - I'm preparing for a big craft sale tomorrow morning, but then I will be freeeeeeeee! Unless I get custom orders. Which would be awesome, but would also kind of suck.

message 553: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Holly - there will be time to pick it up over break. Perhaps in the meant time some audiobooks? I know you've mentionned that you have quite a walk to some of your classes, so this might help.

Good luck with the craft sale, Faye!!!

Karen | 289 comments Perhaps a topic out of left field..
Does anyone else get requests from complete strangers with nothing discernible in common? I have at least three recent requests from people with 2000-odd friends, no groups in common, and barely any books in common. I get a sense that they are authors and my guess is that they are trying to widen their audience. Is this familiar to anyone? What's your response?

Yes, Karen, this has been happening to me also lately.

Ditto. I only accept Friend Requests from people I've actually seen posting in the groups to which I belong.

Kassandra | -1 comments I hope your cat feels better soon, Sonya.

I'm so excited! Yesterday I ordered books for the first time in many, many months (darn budgets!) and my package is already en route and will be waiting for me when I get home tonight. Woot! I'm so excited to dive into As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride and Gray Mountain among others. #NewBooksMakeMeHappy

I know the feeling, Kassandra. Ordered The Madness Vase yesterday, a collection of poems by one of my favourite poets, Andrea Gibson. Thought I deserved a reward for writing all my essays. Still have to edit them, edit them some more, and hand them in, but they're written!

Should be here in the next few days, so it'll be a lovely reward for getting my first lot of coursework done.

Goodreads makes me laugh sometimes. When attempting to add my latest read to my Personal Challenge thread, the 'add book/author' search wasn't working.

It came up with this:

Search is temporarily unavailable.
Use this time to read a book!

Aitziber I tried to find the thread in which we discussed children's book recs, but I am apparently blind as a bat, and can't locate it. :P

Anyway, I told Sandy I'd let her know what I ended up choosing, and in the end I went with Neverending Story as I indicated. However, I also remembered in the eleventh hour (ie after the order was already made) about the Diane Duane's Young Wizards series. They certainly meet all the requirements I posted about, but as I haven't personally read them, I'll discuss it with my mom whether it's something my sisters would be into. I will probably drag her to Powell's to have a look at the children's lit section. >:D

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I had a great day and got spoiled rotten with tons of gifts, including two books - a beautiful one-volume hardcover edition of C.S. Lewis' space trilogy, and Tess of the D'Urbervilles, which is one of my favourite books but wasn't on my bookshelves yet. Yay!

Just noticed that the group has a chit chat thread going :) We're having weird weather right now (freezing temps and lots of snow-a month early for us), and it's caused me to want to bake and read, lol. I made up 4 batches of muffins and a pan of brownies today and I'm now trying to decide what book I want to start next (had The Giver lined up, but not feeling it right now). What's everyone else's weather like right now?

Cold and rainy here. Doesn't matter though. I'm going to KateKat's house for home-baked goodies!

message 585: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) it's cold here in tn and it snowed but didn't stick. it feels like winter already. :)

Renee wrote: "Cold and rainy here. Doesn't matter though. I'm going to KateKat's house for home-baked goodies!"

I made a new recipe today and it's amazing-Toasted Oat Raspberry muffins (you actually toast oatmeal before adding it, never done that before!). I wish I could pass one on to everyone so they could give it a try :)

message 587: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments KateKat, they sound wonderful, I'll try one! I've made a raisen-bran, banana with buttermilk muffins. Sooo good!

Here in Colorado for the last week, it has been snowy and below zero at night. You would think this is normal but we are usually around 50-60 degrees about this time of year. Its warming up to about 45 in the next couple of days. Yah!!! I can get out of my flannels.

message 588: by Tara (new)

Tara Brown (taralynn_80) | 62 comments Colder weather does the same for me, I get this overwhelming urge to bake. I have had so many different varieties of scones in my house over the last couple weeks, and baking French bread every week... Mmmmmmm. It's not even that cold, but it's cooler than summer. We're in the low to mid 60's here.

Today, I shocked my poetry tutor and seminar group when I said that I'd read the whole of Paradise Lost. Apparently that isn't something first year undergraduates have done?

Excuse me, do you know how awesome Satan is in it? Why wouldn't you want to read it?!

Clearly I'm just weird. I read hard books for fun. :P

Becca, it's actually a really awesome read. I really enjoyed it :)

And Faye, I agree, it's a sad sad world. We are, however, studying parts of it in my Intro to Poetry module next week. Which is going to be super exciting!

Who knows, Holly, maybe you'll inspire some of them to read some of these books on their own time rather than reading only the parts they need to read for the class!
