Just a lot of reading. This semester might honestly kill me!

Death by Reading! How horrifyingly ironic. :(

I made the mistake of getting a NetGalley account... I've read 3 ARCS and I'm having to ban myself from requesting more books!

It's great fun being contact by the authors on twitter though!

I made the mistake of putting all the books I had at uni back on my bookcase.

Do you ever just suddenly realise you have too many books? Like I honestly don't know how I've accumulated so many in my 19 years of existence...

Might limit myself to only reading books I actually own!

message 1057: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Haha, Holly, that's a big problem of mine! I have sooo many books, both in my own flat and at my parents'. When I left Florence 5 years ago I decided to give many of my books as presents to friends and bookcross many of them. It was a wise idea as I owned more than 1,000 (both read and unread), but I'm very sad I parted with some books. That's because I gave most of them to my then boyfriend, with whom I split up in a really bad way, so much so that we're not on speaking terms anymore. So I couldn't get back to my books, which I thought I was only giving to him for safekeeping.

I am actually doing challenges trying to limit myself to read books I actually own, but I'm never going to finish my TBR stack. I have around 380 of them! (Both physical and ebooks). That's a desperate situation, I know...

The first time I realized that was when I was moving a lot and had overflow stacks of books and doubled up shelves, and discovered I didn't want to haul so many heavy boxes around the country. That's when I started collecting ebooks, which was even more dangerous because they don't take up space!

And now we have a challenge for that!! :D

Me too, Marina! I am finally down below 100 books that I need to read. Getting there. Just a couple more years and then I'll be free.

Just a quick update, I've cleared out a lot of my old YA stuff that I'm not gonna read again (apart from the stuff that mean a lot to me), so now everything actually fits on a single stack, rather than having to double stack!

Time to order it all now...

message 1076: by Veronique (new)

Veronique Holly wrote: "Time to order it all now ..."

Good luck with that - I use the following software (https://www.bruji.com/bookpedia/) in case you're as geeky as me :0)

message 1077: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) That seems pretty cool, Veronique. I used to use a book cataloging software as well, many years ago - but then again, why use it when I have Goodreads? ;-)

Veronique Marina wrote: "That seems pretty cool, Veronique. I used to use a book cataloging software as well, many years ago - but then again, why use it when I have Goodreads? ;-)"

Oh I've had it for years, way before GR, and use it as my main source - what I have, where it is, what I want, etc. Before that I had a bespoke access database - gosh, what a horror that was :0)

message 1079: by Holly, That Geeky One (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
Aha yeah I don't think I'm that far that I need a whole database.

That being said, I've been organising for half an hour and I'm only into D...

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Looks interesting I might explore it some more. Before I had found Goodreads I had used bibliophil.org years ago which unfortunately took a long time to update and add new books. When they ended their forums I decided to find something different that was also FREE like they had been. That site is no longer around.

message 1081: by Veronique (new)

Veronique Book entering was a big consideration. In this one (mac), and others since (pc), you can use the laptop camera to read the barcode, which then enters most of the data and cover. Apart from cataloging and sorting, I also use the app when in bookshops to check - publishers have a tendency to re-publish books with different covers, which confuses the hell out of me :0)

Organizing bookshelves is a wonderful way to spend a day. All the memories of books already read, and all the opportunities that exist there. *Sigh*

message 1083: by Gillian (new)

Gillian Murrell Veronique that software looks great love that it keeps track of books you have loaned out lol

message 1084: by Camille (new)

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) Thanks everyone for the nice messages :)

I can't wait until we redecorate and buy new shelves to reorganise all my books. How is it going, Holly?

message 1088: by Camille (new)

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) We finally got the Ikea bookcase I ordered. We moved house a year and a half ago and I've been waiting ever since to get a bookcase! But now I have to wait somemore as the Christmas tree is in the way :-(

message 1089: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Lol. Well at least your house won't have that empty feeling when you take the tree down!

Ha! No. Holly (the friendliest mod) went off to her university. Camille had a baby. And the rest of us... Got caught up in the stuff of life. But, yeah, I thought it would be nice to hear about that stuff. Hence, the resurfacing of the chat thread.

I do love that Camille's last comment was about how she couldn't wait to get new bookshelves, and now she has her bookshelves.

message 1092: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

If Camille is anything like me, the book shelves won't be empty long.

message 1093: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments Bookshelves sound wonderful! I have stacks of books everywhere. I even hide the stacks.

Hide the stacks??? I need tips!

message 1095: by Marianne (new)

Marianne Jay (lovinglife1957) Sonia if you go on Pinterest, they have cute ideas on ways to display your books.....that way you don't have to double shelf them

message 1096: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I have some hidden in my closed and next to my night stand by my bed. My kids say I am fooling nobody. lol

Now that my husband is also retired, the books are multiplying. We have designated shelf space. I buy used books at our local university book sales and donate most of them back after I have read them. There are always some keepers, of course. He is getting better at donating books he will not read again, but.....
I still have a lot of my daughter's books at our house(she moved out 9 years ago), including her Little House books and her Harry Potter's. Plus many, many more!

Hi, everyone! I took a year or so away from reading (I only finished 8 books in 2016, after breaking 100 in previous years!!!), mostly so I could plot and outline my own! I'm ready to get back in the saddle for 2017. What did I miss??

message 1100: by Heather (new)
