Aw, thank you! I honestly wondered if anyone would even remember me, haha!

Karen | 289 comments Hi all. I was pretty quiet in 2016. I didn't do much more than star ratings and even that was because I could do it straight from the Kindle app. I'm looking to be more active in 2017. Is Renee still creating awesome mini challenges? That might be just what I need!

message 1104: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I was awol in 2016 too. I have no idea what you missed. Lol

Everything was upside down in 2016! Good to see you, Roseanne. :)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I had a busy year. Sometimes life gets in the way of reading. I am so happy that things are back to normal. Good to see you too Faye.

Oh, I've missed you guys so much!! How great that you've been off writing books and having babies! Welcome Back!

Yes, there are lots of fun challenges! Allison and Jenny are fabulous Moderators. They're both so creative and supportive of the group!

(So many exclamation points! )

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) Welcome back everyone!

A little baby story as I think they're so funny. When my 7-month old lets me read, he'll sometimes require me to hand him out an adult nivel so he can hold a big book like Mummy. It doesn't matter that he's got a million baby books, he needs one of mine! He cracks me up!

Roseanne | 1239 comments Awe they are so cute when they are that little.

We are getting lots of snowfall today, so I'm home from work with my books and my kitties. I do love a Snow Day! Anyone else snowed in?

message 1116: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4507 comments Mod
I love snow days, but we haven't had one this winter. We had some nasty freezing rain on Tuesday. Driving was okay because the roads were salted but walking was a nightmare. We are actually having a sunny day today. We have very few of these this winter.

message 1117: by Allison, Quest Hound (new)

Allison (rainy-day-reads) | 1296 comments Mod
Snow days are such a special treat, Renee - enjoy! We're expecting temps close to 70 here in Colorado today. It feels more like Spring than Winter!

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
That was us yesterday, Allison! We literally went from a sunny 65 to shoveling in less than 24 hours. Weather is so weird!

message 1119: by Karen (new)

Karen | 289 comments It took me a while to get around to checking out the longer challenges but I'm really glad I did. So many cool ones! I really feel like I'm back now.

I have it too, it's great!

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Yay, Karen! Glad you're enjoying some of the changes which occurred while you were a busy mommy. (Among other things)

A reread feature sounds like a long awaited improvement, Sonia. It also means GR does listen sometimes. :)

message 1122: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I love the reread feature. I can't believe it took them this long to add something like that.

message 1123: by Faye, The Dickens Junkie (new)

Faye | 1415 comments Mod
I'm sooo looking forward to the re-read feature! Every time I re-read something and change the date to make it count for my current reading challenge, it knocks it off a previous year's reading challenge. Then it looks like I didn't reach my goal that year and the banner disappears from my page. DEVASTATION.

message 1124: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Lol. I didn't even think about that. Now I need to go and look!

message 1125: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments It did that to me too but I didn't lose my banner because I only lost one book and I still had enough.

message 1126: by Lynnette (new)

Lynnette | 166 comments I have been SLOWLY adding my "read" books. I have kept a list of all books ( or most) since 1964. ( high school). It has been interesting re-visiting titles. I have met authors I forgot about. I think I might check out authors I have forgotten and enjoyed. It also has told me my moods in different years. It has been very illuminating. Memory Lane via books. If you don't keep a list, may I suggest you do so. Fun to re-visit. I even remember the covers so I know I read it.

I love those instances when we get to be the archeologists of our own lives. Great Stuff, Lynette!

message 1128: by Faye, The Dickens Junkie (new)

Faye | 1415 comments Mod
That's excellent, Lynnette! I started keeping a list when I was 19 or so. I always wish I'd started earlier.

message 1129: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments Oh I wish I had kept a list. I never did before goodreads and owning a kindle.

message 1130: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4507 comments Mod
I have kept a list since I graduated from university, in the 70s. I look at some of the titles and don't remember a thing. Others have read and reread. Of course, some books have different titles in different countries. I was reading a Ngaio Marsh novel which seemed awfully familiar, and then I discovered I was reading the book with the American title instead of the British. In Canada we can get both versions.

message 1131: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
I've had that happen with Agatha Christie! Of course, then I can feel really smart for "guessing" whodunnit!

For that reason many people would mark a different edition of the book they were reading as a work around. I didn't want to resort to that. It would confuse me later on, NO more having to do that.

I made "read in ____" shelves (I had seen or heard about that solution from another member).

I often read a "cross-over" book that is a book I started reading in one year and then finished up in the next year. Goodreads count when you FINISHED the book, as when you read it. Even if you started reading it years and years ago (slowly digesting a chapter a year). With the re-read function I won't "Need" the "Read in ____" shelves, at least not for that reason.

message 1133: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments Oh I have year shelves on goodreads too

message 1134: by Tr1sha (new)

Tr1sha | 828 comments I'm concerned about the re-read feature, has anyone else had a problem with it? As a new Goodreads member I know what books I've read & haven't been here long enough to read anything a second time. My books are listed correctly as "read" or "to read" with correct dates. But the widget says I've read one extra book & has marked one book as "x2". Can I correct this?

message 1135: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments It counts books for the challenge by read date. Check your read date. Maybe there are 2 dates.

message 1136: by Tr1sha (new)

Tr1sha | 828 comments Thanks for your help, Roseanne. Your comment made me look for this - only one date was showing, but I tried the "edit view" option & found 2 dates there. Deleting one of them has solved the problem. I still have lots to learn about Goodreads!

message 1137: by Lynnette (new)

Lynnette | 166 comments Good quotes from today's books can be challenging. I keep a list of things said that speak to me. Today's quotes. Don't always remember to add where it is from, sorry. I have gotten better. But these are my favorites.

"Everyone's boat floats on different water"

"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. " Marcus Aurelius

"Children need love, a reliable source of comfort, and an adult willing to take responsibility for them. " Deborah Harkness, Shadow of Light.

Are people still having trouble with their counts? My app stopped counting in Feb but righted itself a couple of days ago.

My daughter went back to work two weeks ago after a year long maternity leave. My husband and I are looking after her two days a week, Tuesdays and Fridays. I am getting a lot of exercise!

Are you enjoying it?

I've decided not to go back to work after my maternity leave, I feel very lucky we are able to do that and I can stay at home with my little boy!

I am enjoying it, but I am getting a lot more exercise than before. Today we went to the farmers market before lunch, and Starbucks and the local library after lunch. Grandpa came along too but I pushed the stroller. I find it easier to walk while pushing.
I was a stay at home Mom too, but Toronto is so expensive that my daughter had to go back to work. Rachel will be going into daycare in a year or so, and her name is already on three waiting lists.
