How many books do you usually read during the same period of time.

Are you faithful and finish one before you start another or do you have an open relationship with books and have many 'currently reading' at different stages?

I can only read one book at a time :p I can't read two at once :o

I can beta read one and read another published at the same time though, but beta reading also includes editing for me which makes it different I guess :p

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments I have read 3 books at once before, so I know I'm capable of doing that but I prefer to read one at a time. Mostly that comes about because I have a computer book on coding, an ebook on my phone, and a hardcover book not available as an ebook yet that I can't wait to read. I mostly read off my Kindle app on my phone. Just like I manage Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, etc.. on my phone cuz I'm always on the go.

Heidi Barnes | 86 comments I read one book at a time. I find I can't really get into the story if I'm reading more than one. Takes something away from that book. If I am reading a book and one comes out that I've been waiting a long time for then I will put the first book down and read the one I have been waiting for. Afterwards I'll go back to the original book. (Does that make sense? :P)

Yep! I read two at a time once. Both were a bit similar too. I was so mixed up at some point I had to do what you did, but coming back to the one I had left aside was hard so now I just finish what I'm reading first. I just try to read faster. :P
I also alternate genre or take stories that are noticeably different so I don't keep comparing the books.

Karen (okiewashere) | 57 comments I frequently read different books during a certain time span. As Brian mentioned before, they might be on a smartphone, an eReader, a laptop, or just a hardcover. Ideally, these books cover different genres (as G.G. mentioned before) and are not all written in the same language. Despite this mass reading I still cherish every book.
If I cannot buy into a story, I go off the usual track and read this one exclusively.

Harmony Kent (harmonyk) I often have more than one book open at once these days .. I will read on a night for pleasure (that's one book), then through the day I will read for review (that's another book), I might also be working editing, polishing and proofing the final draft of my own book (that's three), and then there's what I might be reading for research purposes on my current book (which could be another 2 or 3 reference books), ... I must admit though, I much prefer one at a time! Before I stared reviewing I never read more than one at once - except for the research and editing my own - but some of the read for reviews are hard work rather than fun, so I have a reading for pleasure back up for when I want to relax ... so far I'm managing not to get confused :3

Jack Strandburg | 51 comments I generally read a non-fiction (usually writing help book) a novel, and a short story, either from an anthology or a magazine like Ellery Queen. Lately the novels I've started simply do not hold my interest and where I used to try and finish for the sake of finishing, not I put them aside and try another.

Kevin Wolfenberger | 85 comments I'm generally reading several books at a time. Right now, I'm reading "The Stand", "A Game of Thrones" and "The Dragon Reborn". Plus, I plan on buying "Steelheart" next week and getting started on that. It's not so much that I enjoy reading multiple books at once, but that I'm not patient enough to finish one before starting another I'm excited about.
