This thread was suggested by a fellow Dalkey-goodreader. Feel free to ask me Dalkey-related questions. However, as I'm only one person, please be patient.

Jim Two books I've been looking for:

Nightwood
Women and Men

Both of the DAP editions are hard to find and prohibitively expensive. Would love to know if DAP plans on reprinting either of these.

Tuck | 10 comments some years ago, maybe 2000? you had a deal where one could buy ALL your books extant for a special price. i believe it was kinda hard times for dalkey back then and even to the point of dicey outlook to even continue.
did you get many takers on that offer?
i tried to talk my boss at library into buying all of them, but no-go. now i kick myself that we didn;t (nor did i personally :()

Spreadsheets say it all: completely out of stock. We are not planning on a re-print. That's not to say that that can't be changed, however. We like to hear about what people want re-printed.

Dang! That's before my time, although I'm sure it can still be done if one just asked and had a nice sounding offer. As far as I know, nobody took us up on the offer. I feel like I probably would've heard about it.

New copies of Women and Men are going for 500€ on Amazon.fr. Similar prices elsewhere. Top of my list for a reprint from DAP.

Dalkey Archive Press (dalkeyarchivepress) | 41 comments Mod
I'll be sure to bring it up then.

I've been looking for Women and Men too. Definitely buy a reprint.

message 9: by Ian (new)

Ian Scuffling (ianscuffling) | 1 comments There's a Women and Men reissue forthcoming from Dzanc books. No official dates yet, but I hear it's a print and digital edition.

message 10: by Stephen (new)

Stephen P(who no longer can participate due to illness) | 1 comments Any general idea what you would need to charge and how many volumes you would need to sell of a reprint of Women and Men to make it worth it for Dalkey Archive Press to move forward on it. I recall a poll on how many GR readers would be interested in Women and Men at certain prices. Does any one in the group have access to these numbers? I assume it would be helpful for GR to provide hard data on how much we could support the venture and make it worth your while or at least give a rough projection of how many of us literary addicts there might be.

Dalkey Archive Press (dalkeyarchivepress) | 41 comments Mod
It all depends on how many we would decide to re-print. Obviously, printing 250 is cheaper than re-printing 1,000. Solid numbers of interested buyers would help the cause, but again, I am making no promises. For the interested: we are currently re-printing BERG by Ann Quin.

Dankjewel. Geen beloften, maar leuk dat jullie er allemaal zin in hebben.

message 14: by Nathan "N.R." (new)

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) From my recollections, Dalkey no longer holds the rights to Women & Men. Dzanc has an ebook forthcoming and a possible paper edition. The price-poll is available at the W&M group.

I blame Garth Risk Hallberg for the price=hike :: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/jacke...

Ha! Unexpected. Maar altijd een aangename verrassing. :)

Ik hoop dat er genoeg animo is om een herdruk te rechtvaardigen (en dat DAP de rechten nog heeft, überhaupt). Houd ons op de hoogte!

MJ Nicholls (mjnicholls) | 9 comments One question that pokes at me is why does DAP publish early Huxley works like Point Counter Point? I always thought they were pretty straightforward drawing-room satires. What innovative qualities reside therein exactly?

message 18: by Tom (new)

Tom Willard | 2 comments DAP gives us a little taste of an author, with one publication or maybe 2. Sometimes, it just seems like a tease, getting us all worked up then nothing: for instance Jean Ricardou, Christine Montalbetti, and Juan Filloy. Do you plan to keep translating their work? What factors contribute to DAP dropping an author? I vote for not dropping them and indulging the completist side of my blossoming OCD.

A good question, but I honestly don't have an answer for you. I'm going to guess that John just really likes it.

I agree with you and concurrently disagree. We have a lot of Shklovsky. And Harry Mathews. And Dumitru Tsepeneag. What factors into dropping an author? That varies quite a bit. Sorry this doesn't really answer your question.

message 21: by Tom (new)

Tom Willard | 2 comments Oh sure, I didn't mean that DAP drops authors in every instance as there are many oeuvres thoroughly explored by DAP. There are some great authors with just a few stray titles though; maybe just consider it my vote to publish more by those authors.

For UK-ers: we don't hold UK rights for NIGHTWOOD. Faber does. We only have rights for US/Canada/Philippines.

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) It's not as if we don't already have a near infinite treasure of Dalkey books and RCF issues ; BUT ;; is there any eventuality for making available again some of those oop issues of RCF? Namely fer-instance the WTV/DFW/Daitch issue or the one with Arno Schmidt?? print-on-demand or ebook-ish?

message 24: by Tuck (new)

This is actually a very complicated matter, and I don't fully understand why we don't. In all seriousness (and this applies to everyone reading this), message me which issue you're interested in and I'll see what can be done. Each individual issue would be $8.00 plus shipping.

Jim For 2014 Backlist reads, here are a few DAP books I have sitting on my bookshelf that I would like to read, and so I'd like to nominate:

At Swim-Two-Birds
Fado
Mulligan Stew
Op Oloop
A Tomb for Boris Davidovich

If any of these fit your strategy for the year, Cailin, please add them to the polls.

Thanks a lot for these! My colleague and I have some ideas, but, of course, people are more than welcome to give a few suggestions.

As an aside: I posted something for UK/Londoners and would love some feedback. Thanks! https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Also, I just received a copy of Ben Marcus' The Age of Wire and String and would enjoy reading in this group.

Great book. And don't worry, I'm making note of everyone's suggestions. In fact, one of yours will by the January pick.

James wrote: "Is there any chance we'll see The Tunnel in ebook format in the next year or so? I have the DAP Paperback and audio versions, but I'm greedy and want more."

I'm pretty sure the answer to this is no, unfortunately. I don't do production, so I'm no expert, but I think that when we do new books, it goes into layout for galleys and from layout it's easy to put it into ebook form. For older books, it's a big backtracking process. There will, of course, be a time where we do put them all into ebook form, but I'm just not sure when that is.
