Steven (jajostenik) | 13 comments Have you ever heard a song and it reminded you of a book. there are two songs on the radio that do that for me. Lorde's song Royals reminds me of the book Invisible Monsters by Chuck Pahalniuk and the song Radioactive by Imagine Dragons reminds me of the book Wool. Both songs have lyrics and a musical style that just seems to fit. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

Justin Dasher | 2 comments Protest the Hero's album "Fortress" reminds me of the Song of Ice and Fire series. Really awesome prog metal with brutal, but well-written lyrics.

Roy Hull | 1 comments The song chariots of fire always made me think of troopers being dropped in Starship Troopers

Dharmakirti | 942 comments Poe's album "Haunted" is a soundtrack to her brother's outstanding House of Leaves.

"Jamaica Inn" by Tori Amos references Daphne du Maurier's novel of the same name as well as her novel Rebecca.

message 5: by Keith (new)

Keith (keithatc) Front 242's "Gripped By Fear" always reminds me of and makes me want to reread William Gibson's Neuromancer (or the whole Sprawl trilogy)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments Blue Oyster Cult's masterpiece, "Don't Fear the Reaper" will always remind me of The Stand, which is the song that plays in the intro credit to the miniseries, and was an inspiration for the book.

Sean Mahoney | 1 comments I kept Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party" tape constantly playing the first time I read Niven's Ringworld.

Ringworld (Ringworld #1) by Larry Niven

Sara (medusasmirror) | 44 comments Possession by Sarah Mclachlan is inextricably linked with the early Anita Blake books for me

message 9: by Anish (new)

Anish | 1 comments Demons by Imagine Dragons reminds me of first eleven books of Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.

Joseph | 2433 comments A movie, not a book, but Richard Thompson's Withered and Died puts me in mind of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

message 12: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (flyfishr64) I've always wanted to do a mashup of Basket or the Blade and Ned Stark's scene in "Fire and Blood". I think it'd be nearly perfect.

message 13: by L. (new)

L. Shosty Perhaps it's not apropos of a sf/fantasy discussion, but Talk Talk's "Mirror Man" makes me think of American Psycho.

message 14: by Carolina (new)

Carolina "Anna Song" by Silverchair reminds me of Anna Dressed in Blood

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments Go Your Own Way always makes me think of Drizzt as Fleetwood Mac is Salvatore's favorite band of all time.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2668 comments Weird Al's parody 'White and Nerdy' makes me think of Ender Wiggins :)

message 19: by bookthump (new)

bookthump | 44 comments I always thought The Cure 's "Killing an Arab" was a weird song until I read Albert Camus's The Stranger. Now it makes sense but I still don't like the song.

message 20: by Lee (new)

Lee Burton (lsburton337) | 1 comments Not quite the same, but a friend of mine read LOTR while listening to Zeppelin on repeat. Now whenever he hears Stairway to Heaven he pictures Aragorn and Legolas and Gimli running across the plains of Rohan.

I'm kinda jealous of that, to be honest.

Similarly, I read Stephen King's The Talisman while listening to Metallica's "black album," and whenever I hear the B-side of that album I think of the book.

Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.
How years ago in days of old, when magic filled the air.
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair.
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her....yeah.

Not quite music reminding me of a book, but the score from LotR and Hobbit movies are amazing (imho)

Yeah, it was only years later, when I got into Zeppelin myself, that I realized just how appropriate his association was.
