Top 10 Hollywood actors...

I'll rephrase what I said:
Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford > everyone else on the list.

Brad Pitt sometimes deliver a nuanced performance, I don't think he's horrible, but not a great actor for sure. I also think Crowe delivers some good performances - better than Pitt.
Daniel Day Lewis is a master. Who are some others you can think of?

But people don't go to the movies for good acting, they go for something that sounds fun. Or exciting. Or scary.
And good actors don't always pick the movies that interest movie-goers.

Is Julia still a top-earner? I wonder how Sandra Bullock fares these days, didn't she used to be a top-earner as well? Probably Cameron Diaz is high on the list these days.

Sean Penn
Javier Bardem
Kate Winslet
Cate Blanchett
Daniel Day Lewis
Johnny Depp
Viggo Mortensen
Daniel Craig
Scarlett Johnassen (yes, why not)
Penelope Cruz
Gael Garcia Bernal
hell, I'll just end on the Latins ;-)

Scarlett Johansson?!
I agree with the Latins... but... NOT SCARLETT JOHANSSON AND SEAN PENN.
Sean Penn is a twat of the highest degree.

And I'd add Helen Mirren and Meryl to Jessica's list.

"He's such a pussy."
"Jesus, that guy is such a twat!"
etc, etc, etc.

"He's such a pussy."
"Jesus, that guy is such a twat!"
etc, etc, etc.
"
in Britain, they do call men cunts
just saying--

No argument from me on that.

Matt Damon?! AHHH, I have to leave this thread!
If someone says Ben Affleck... I'll... do something horrific to an innocent bystander!

Jessica wrote: "yeah I was just going to amend my remarks to say that Damon is a decent actor while Affleck...ugh."
I agree
I agree

He seems to play the same type a lot.
I was really disappointed in him in Ripley.
you know I should have added:
Philip Seymour Hoffman to the list...

Anthony Hopkins
Sam Elliott
Morgan Freeman
Judy Dench
Tommy Lee Jones
Will Smith
Donald Sutherland (Kelly's Heroes!)
Clint Eastwood
Stockard Channing
Jack Nicholson
George Clooney
Charlize Theron
Christopher Walken
Emma Thompson
and even though they are no longer with us...
Katherine Hepburn
Cary Grant
Jimmy Stewart
Audrey Hepburn
Heath Ledger
Charlie Chaplin
Spencer Tracey

Just so you know. Please continue.
EDIT: Oops. I forgot Jean-Claude van Clam, The Mussels from Brussels.

Three points:
1. Tom Hanks, in my eyes, is terribly overrated.
2. Sean Penn is a, well, what Matthew called him. And I think he's an overrated actor, too. He overacts. People like him because of the roles he takes on, I think.
3. I have a really hard time thinking of an actor I like. Johnny Depp? He's always interesting. But I find I like actors less because of their abilities and more because of what they choose to do. I also have a hard time with actors who seem like assholes in real life...even if they're good at their craft, they bug me. George Clooney seems like a shallow male airhead...when he talks about politics he makes Sharon Stone and Heather Graham (sp?) sound intelligent. So I have a hard time watching his films.
Actresses...I guess I'm the same way, if I can separate looks/personality from the picture.

I like Tom Hanks because he doesn't seem too full of himself, but will take smaller roles just because they look fun. Like the FBI guy he played in Catch Me If You Can. I did think parts of Castaway were ludicrous, though.
