Okay so I'm going to pick up my comment here where I left off in merbooks.
Regarding flawed characters:
I am ridiculously naive when it comes to people-that's definitely my worst flaw. I trust everyone. As a result of this, however, I embrace so many people that I let as many wonderful ones slip through as I do double crossers.
But I am a writer and I am constantly treating the people I meet as potential characters. Luckily, this habit of reading people kicks in when it's needed. I can tell so much because I let people get so close to start with.
Ivyanne's selfishness saves her life. Repeatedly. And others. So I might not be impartial, but I am aware of what message I was trying to get across.
This thread in merbooks was sinisterly quiet wasn't it? I don't mind the conflicting opinions (not the conflict itself). I love seeing everyone's passionate theories on it. Amazing how differently things can be taken isn't it? I hope everyone was in two minds about all of the characters in this book. Nothing is black and white, and no one is perfect.
