Questions about how to be an author on goodreads can be directed here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

In this group, authors can promote their children's books (or other books) as much as they like, as long as they promote under this topic. Just saying.

You found it! You're in it!
Now just go back to the top of the page, click on the title of the folder ("Authors/Publishers/Promotional"), and on the resulting page click on "new topic."

Hi. How are you?
Until the end of the year the profits for my book will be going to charity. Am I able to advertise that here on goodreads.com?
If so, which is the appropriate location so as to not offend anyone.
Thank you!
Paul
Hi Paul. Thank you. Just add that information to your author's thread. If you haven't created one yet, this is the folder where it belongs, so do go ahead and do so.

Thank you for reaching out here.
This is the correct folder.
From what you say, you do understand how to start your own thread. It sounds like goodreads itself is giving you a problem, and I have no idea how to help with that. Various things could be wrong, so I would take the website's advice to try later.
If you've been posting in several groups, your account may have been flagged (by the goodreads' computers' alogorithm) as spam, and you should wait 24 hours. If you haven't, just wait a few hours.

And you can also contact Goodreads in the Help section which I would suggest doing if the error message does not go away.

My sister created such a fun children's book and is using Kickstarter to help launch it. Is it okay to post the link on this forum? Would love to share it with others so they can enjoy it with their little ones too!
Thank you for your answer!

You can provide a link in the promotional and author section, but you need to create your own topic for this and not piggy back on someone else’s topic. And you only do promotional posts in the above mentioned section.

Thank you for asking. It's a new question. I flinch a bit, but I agree, create your own thread, make the one promotional post per quarter, and good luck!

In this folder, create a new topic and post about the free giveaway on your topic.

From the opening thread:
"5. authors may post their books to the group bookshelves. But to clarify, they must post to the 1. Read shelf, 2. author's corner shelf, and 3. any descriptive shelf that truly fits, for example 'mystery.' As always, abuses of the opportunity are subject to consequences."
I was tidying up Newbery books a bit today and saw a bunch of books that are *not* on the author's corner shelf. Authors take note: add the custom shelf tag. Or, I will delete them as soon as I get a chance, or someone else can go in and delete them.
The reason that we have to have this rule is because Goodreads has a feature that displays the books that the group has read on the bottom of the home page. We have not actually read those books together and therefore the references to them are misleading our members and potential members who use the group home page.
Thank you.

I have cleaned up this thread quite a bit this morning. I hope that it's easier for authors to understand now.
This is the introduction to the folder. Your book (or publishing company, or website) goes in its own thread within this folder. Read messages above for how-to.

Also, a lot of you have shelved your books in the group bookshelf. That's fine. You've even tagged them as 'read.' Good. But you haven't also added the tag 'author's corner.' That is not good. If you'd read the rules, you would know that. One of these days I'm going to have the energy and time to delete all books not so tagged. You've been warned!

Hi Cheryl,
after reading your comment I added my book to the children's group bookshelf and pressed author's corner as well as elementary school and animals for my book Mia is Lost. It has now appeared in the main bookshelf but not in the author's corner which is not what I intended. Could you rectify this as I seem unable to change it?
Thanks for your help
JK Keane

You're welcome, Goodreads is not always that easy with regard to technology, at least in my opinion.

I found three children's books for you Karen, correctly shelved. Thank you for your cooperation. And good luck; they look very appealing.

Yikes, that's a tough question, Keith. Even the mention of your title here is technically against the rules, so I'm going to have to delete your query. But I sincerely appreciate it! I love that you show respect to the readers in this group!
The best way to handle that would be to create your own thread as per usual. In the thread, post a link to the contest, but label it just as "for more information." Sorry I can't be more generous.

This is the discussion topic/thread for the policies. You will create your own discussion thread in this folder.
In any other thread, in other folders, we'd love to hear your thoughts about books and reading and sharing books with children. Just jump in with a comment anywhere, just as you did here. For example, in this current topic, https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/..., write a comment about any picture-book you've enjoyed about gnomes, tomtens, brownies, or other wee beings.
Just don't name or talk about your books outside of this promotional folder in your thread.

Just a reminder, the rules for self-promotion are all in the first message in this discussion thread right here. This thread is the "introductory" thread to the Self-Promotion folder.
If you want to promote your own book (or blog, or publishing company, or vlog, or...), create your very own discussion/thread in this folder. If you don't know how to create your own thread, see message #7.
If you have further questions, please look over the rest of this thread. If you're still stumped, post your question here, below.

BUT "picture book club" is for *group* reads that the Club reads with me and Kathryn. It is for the Caldecott books and for the books that are directly related to each theme-of-the-month.
I think I've cleaned it up for now. I will amend the rules in the first post to reflect this (previously unstated) rule. Future transgressions will be deleted.
