Samantha Sellers (samantha62477) | 10 comments I can read almost anywhere and if it is too noisey I just put my ipod in with classical music. The one thing that I always do while I am reading is play with my hair no matter what I am reading my hand is playing with my hair some how some way.

Carol Bro (cjbro) | 34 comments Glad to hear someone else does that, Samantha (the hair twisting thing)! Honestly, I never hear the end of it. Think I was born twisting my hair.

Samantha Sellers (samantha62477) | 10 comments I am telling you that has been my security blanket since day one of my life I do believe!!

Jessica I love to listen to Jeff Victor's music while I'm reading. He has the most original music ever. I think his music has a way of fitting to whatever I'm reading. As far as where I read, I can read almost anywhere, but I prefer the couch or my bed.

Camille Richer | 7 comments I always listen to classical music. Mostly LOTR or HP soundtracks.

I also always eat some frozen fruits while I read and I play with my hair...like always...

but it seems I'm not the only one

Amanda (porterak) Lets see I don't mind noise like music or sitting in a coffee house or something while reading but I can not can not have someone talk to me. I lose focus and then lose my place in the book and that upsets me the most cause then I have to back track a little in the book.
The TV doesn't distract me unless it is a show that I like. But mostly I just like a nice soft comfy chair to sit in and I don't care what is going on in the background.

Nadine | 3 comments Generally I dislike to have the tv on while I am reading, for some reason however sports work nicely. Like in soccer it is a nice background sound I don't really hear but IF things in the game heat up I will register by the sound of the voice of the commentator and look up in time to see the big event.
What goes perfectly with reading is coffee/tea/hot chocolate. I love to have a hot mug in my hand while reading. Cold beverages in summer don't do the same tricksomehow. Of course I had a few accidents while drinking something hot. ;-) I am reacting strongly to shocking scenes in books (and movies) and tend to toss the book away, this way I spilled my coffee more than once in particularly shocking book moments.

Amanda (porterak) Yes a drink does go along nicely with a book. And yes you are right a hot one does the trick more than a cold drink. But I put my drink down. I don't continually hold it.

Does anyone ever try to read in the car? I wish I could. On those long trips it would be great to be able to read while just sitting there (of course I mean as a passenger and not the driver). But for some strange reason I get horrible headaches and then feel bad for the rest of the day. It really irritates me. Any tricks to knowing how to prevent the headaches?

message 59: by Nadine (new)

Nadine | 3 comments I usually am the one driving so reading in the car is not possible. But in the cases I tried it was not great, I tend to get a lil carsick when reading in the car.
The thing about reading in the car is that the brain thinks you are not moving as the book is relatively immobile, while the car in moving. When you look out of the window the brain registers the movement and makes sense of it. It is a collision of what the brain registers and what the body feels. Some react more violently to it and others can stand it nicely though. No idea how to cope with the headaches...

message 60: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porterak) Bummer. I wish there was a way around it.

message 61: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 2 comments I can totally zone out while reading and nothing will really faze me. I can read around people and noise....I like to play with my hair too!

message 62: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porterak) I notice I have done that myself. Plus I also for some strange reason tend to bite my lip. Especially if the story gets juicy! :)

ME TOO!!!! its really bad sometimes when the moment is really climatic!!!

P.I. (thewordslinger) I think your feeling bad might be due to motion sickness or some related condition. Personally I get too distracted by the scenery to read. I have to listen to music or news and find it IMPOSSIBLE to write legibly even for novel notes. It's like when I listen to music or write: I can only focus on one or the other.

message 65: by Nina (new)

Nina (marshnina) | 6 comments I can read anywhere or anytime. Background noise does not bother me. I however find it difficult to read and to have someone talk to me.

message 66: by Tyler Banks (new)

Tyler Banks (capital_tea) | 7 comments I put on background noise, usually an album in the background that mimics the mood of the story I am burning through. Add to that I vary my tastes between comics and traditional novels.
