That's a pretty general request.

I help to moderate a Science group here on Goodreads. You can check out our group bookshelves here:

They are organized into shelves by specific discipline (down the left side of the page), so you can pick which discipline you want to investigate. You might want to also review the books we've read as a group -- in the Book Club folder (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...). For each of those if you read the discussion you might get a better idea of what the book was about and what people thought about it.

If you have specific questions, I'd be glad to try to help.

Are you looking for books to give as a gift? If that's the case, you might want books that are beautiful artifacts as well as good books to read. There are two I've come across recently that might be of interest:

Although mathematics was not on the list of disciplines listed, I think The Universe in Zero Words: The Story of Mathematics as Told Through Equations is worth considering. Here is a review by my co-mod, who is a physicist:

Another one that looks both interesting and artfully produced is Phi: A Voyage from the Brain to the Soul, which I think qualifies as philosophy.

I haven't read either of these yet, but I'd like to.

Cool. There are other science groups on Goodreads, too. Sometimes they mix with other interests -- like Nature -- sometimes not. He might want to check them out. Go to the main groups page and search for science. And there is at least one group focused on human evolution. It seems there is always more on Goodreads.

Check out Mary Roach. Her books tend to address a broader topic, like corpses or digestion, with a blend humor and a variety of scientific disciplines with a delightful and absolutely infectious curiosity.
Also, Sam Kean is incredibly engrossing on the topics of Chemistry and genetics.
