Jennifer | 48 comments Sometimes I think that when I read the next book in a series. Say there is 4 books in a series, you loved all four, they were the best! Book five comes out and you're like, "Who the heck wrote this?" It's almost like a completely different book and it's god awful.

Am I the only one that feels that way? I'm not talking about just not liking the next in a series I'm talking about the feel of a book, like the author had someone else write it or help them at least. I'm not saying that's the case, just that it feels that way.

If you know what I'm talking about, why do you think that is?

Jessica (studioeastrat) | 511 comments I've had that happen before. I actually ended up dropping that series after the next book after that came out and it was just as bad. I ended up finding out that she had MAJOR changes happen in her life and I think that that affected the way she wrote.

Kim | 134 comments I know what you mean. That is exactly how I felt when I read Hannibal by Thomas Harris. Story aside, I'd read all of his other books and loved his writing style. This book felt so different to me that I seriously wondered if he'd had a stroke and had to hire a ghost writer. I actually Googled that just in case.

This happened to me with The Up in the Air series. I loved In Flight (Up In The Air, #1) by R.K. Lilley Mile High (Up In The Air, #2) by R.K. Lilley , but Grounded (Up In The Air, #3) by R.K. Lilley just left thinking, "WTF just happended?".

Jennifer | 48 comments Ahh.. I'm so glad I'm not the only one! The recent series I just read was just like that! Only not so much the flow of the story, that wasn't so bad but it had so much narration/inner monologue, the other books just didn't flow like that there was a balance of the two.

I notice more in books that have been made into movies or TV series! Oh gosh, I won't even mention who has done that.. One could guess easily.

Paganalexandria: Yeah, the last book was not up to par for me either, but still not as bad as some that I have read.. ugh.

Jennifer, that last book felt like she committed to three books (because all FSOG-a-likes must have three), but realized she didn't have enough storyline left. So, she through threw in a whole bunch of random characters whose only purpose was to advertise future spin-offs after this series is done.

Jennifer | 48 comments Paganalexandria,

It's been awhile since I read the series but I know what you mean. Sometimes it feels that an author wasn't planning more books but since it became popular decided to continue on to another book. Or they decided to split a book when it could have fit into one. That particular one is a pet peeve of mine. haha

Jennifer | 48 comments Oh and about spin-off books. Awhile back I read a book where the author literally made several chapters about just that. I read more about the spin-off characters then I did about the actual h/H. Honestly, I found the spin-off chars. more interesting than the h/H of the book I was reading. haha

Jennifer you are so right. I there have been books where I tagged the H/h both TSTL but the B story was interesting enough to keep me interested. LOL
