We are starting this today! Four chapters a day, anyone is welcome to join us.

Lys (lysrowan) wheeee.
Thanks Sheri, you are awesome. :)

So I read through chapter 4. So far I like it. Not a terribly original storyline, but I like the characters. I guess we don't really know much about Tyler at this point, but I like Rory's sarcasm and nerdiness.

Lys (lysrowan) At the first line, I groaned. But it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be from there. was pretty surprised we started with attempted rape. More soon. I hate typing from my phone.

Lol! Yeah it is definitely not original. Good girl, bad boy...Why do the bad boys always come from broken homes? Can't they just be bad because they want to be.

At this point I still like Rory's POV, but I am not agreeing with her decisions - (view spoiler)

Lys (lysrowan) It's like reading Beautiful Disaster, different "issues" but same subscription. Sigh.

It's not badly written though. I don't like how Judgmental she is. And I am really tired of her pity parties. Him, I like. So far. I guess. But yeah, it sorta feels like several other books of its type rolled together. I find it cute that McCarthy keeps reminding her reader that she (author) is well read and understand literature. Smooth. lol.

Yep. I like the writing and I think that Rory's personality makes up for what else the story lacks (at least for me), which would be story originality and Rory's issues - judgmental like you said and her low self-esteem. Like I said above, the issues she chooses to ignore make me question her, though.

Lys (lysrowan) Do you mean the pills, or?

message 9: by Sheri, Bookworm (new) - rated it 3 stars

Sheri | 13547 comments Mod
The pills would be one of them. She knew he had them and he was sharing, even if he wasn't selling...The fact that her friends paid a guy money to have sex with her was the biggest one. There are more examples but I can't think of them right now...

Oh yeah! At one point she thought he was having sex with other girls and she was okay with it (when she thought he had bought condoms and then didn't have any), or just blew it off, even though she was so determined not to be just a one night stand.

So I have gone back and forth with a rating for this...Here is my review.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I have changed it from 3 to 4 like five times now.

I have the next two books from Netgalley, too.

message 12: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) Oh, you finished?
I will try to finish soon then too.
In today's section, there was a part where she said "I'd never met a penis in person."
Besides being a really stupid phrasing -- didn't the book START with that?
Did you have this from netgalley too? I am so hoping she corrected that section.

I won't be able to finish until tomorrow. We could start something for the weekend though, Friday ---> whenever. Your pick this time.

3-4 stars isn't too bad. I guess it's not as awful as everyone said?

Yep finished. The ending was abrupt, and yes I have it from NG too.

3 stars isn't bad. I would have liked to give it 4 but just didn't think I deserved it - mostly for the writing problems. I did like the story.

I'm up for a book this weekend. Looking through our Netgalley picks, how about External Forces (The Laws of Motion #1) by Deborah Rix ? I won't read ahead this time, I promise :)

message 15: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) Sounds good. Starting Friday? Pace?

It looks like there are 18 chapters. Do you want to do 5 a day and be done Monday or 4 a day and be done Tuesday? Either is fine with me.

message 17: by Lys (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I'll finish True tomorrow. We can start External Forces on Friday. 5 a day is fine.

Can't wait to see what you think about the rest of True.

Aisha Oaktree (aishao) I read it and loved it

I enjoyed the next two in the series more than this one.
