Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments Janice, can you verify a page count for me? The rules address eBooks and Audiobooks, but not which page count to use for whispersync. I'm reading The Firebird for the Toppler, and I'll use the Kindle Whispersync function to maximize my reading time, meaning I'll be switching between reading and listening. Can I use the Kindle page count of 544 and include this in my Chunksters?

Yes, use the Kindle version.

Hi Lindy, you need to set up your own reporting thread. That is where you will list your books that you are going to read, the page numbers for those books, how they are connected to each other. It will also be the place where you will report your progress.

Lindy (lindylee) | 51 comments And where might it be?

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Lindy wrote: "And where might it be?"

Hi Lindy. Janice and I gave you some hints on how to set up your thread in messages 597 and 598. Janice also explains how to set up your reporting thread in message 1.

If you go here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... and click the link in the topic right corner of the discussion post list that says "new topic" you can set up your own reporting thread there. You can name it whatever you like but put your name in title so we know who's it is. Then set up the rest of the thread as discussed in those other messages.

Give us a yell if you get stuck.

You are sooooo close.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Sorry but I find my time somewhat limited and need to cut down on my groups. It's been fun and I do thank all here and wish you well.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Question: After completing Slugs, does the last book in that section have to connect with the first book of the next section?

message 610: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Yes it does Anne

message 611: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Janice - Just noticed that the group info still talks about the yearly challenge based around the alphabet.

message 612: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments Thanks for drawing my attention to that Lynn! I will fix that right away.

message 613: by Diane (new)

Diane | 90 comments Two questions.

Since I am starting late, can I count books I have read since Jan. 1st?

Can I use as my link: Books that are set in different countries of the world?

Yes, you may include books that you started and read after Jan 1st.

And yes to the second with a bit of a condition. I think saying that they are set n different countries is a bit vague. Try to be creative how you group them. Maybe Slick's Slugs could be countries set in Europe, or Africa, or... remembering that you need to link the last book in a section with the first book in the next section.

Ann (ann7258) | 334 comments I am also starting late |(better late than never!)but I'm not sure how to get started. I have added a topic to this feed and started a comment box for Slick's Slugs. Is that all I have to do? or do I need to register my start with a moderator somehow? Also wondering, does one section have to connect to the next? I mean, does the last book in Slick's Slugs have to connect with the first book in Mickey Mouse's Marchers?

message 616: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Hi Ann! Looks like you're good to go. Thread looks good, and just update us on how you go. The sections do have to link via the books. It's all one be long chain but Janice is being nice and giving us milestones to aim for.

Enjoy your Slick reads! Make sure you check out The Luminaries buddy read thread when you get to read that one.

message 617: by Ann (new)

Ann (ann7258) | 334 comments Thanks Rusalka! I've already completed all the books that I have listed in Slick's Slugs. Do I need to mark the date I completed them? I didn't read them in order...does that matter?

message 618: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments If you mark them as completed however you wish (date read, italics, ticks, strikethrough, whatever floats your boat) that would help Janice keep track.

In terms of order, I believe if you read through this thread that's been discussed. I believe (but double check to make sure, not my challenge) that you can read your books within a section in any order, but you can't move on to the next section until you've read those 6. Make sense?

Yep, that's right. Also, all the books in one section had to be finished before you could start a book for the next section. :)

Also good to know, thanks Dawn! I better go back to the beginning and double-check all the rules before I get too ahead of myself...

AND you can go back to the beginning of the year, to combine your previous reads. If they connect.

I'm that jerk that doesn't read the thread to see if the question has already been answered--

I started reading the second book on my list and it makes me want to claw my eyes out. Can I edit my list this late in the game?

message 630: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Kim, you can read more than one chunkster at a time, but you have to finish all of the books in Slick's Slugs before moving on to any book in the Mickey's Marchers list.

message 635: by Sunshine✰✰✰ (new)

Sunshine✰✰✰ I just finished The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King. It's a fantasy book he wrote for kids and as I was reading some of the other reviews I saw quite a few mentioned it's kinda a spin off of the Dark Tower series he wrote too. I had randomly pick that book cause it fit for a connection I needed to lead into my Mickey's Marchers category which, coincidently, is the Dark Tower series! :-)

I have never read the Dark Tower series. I do have the first book to get me started. I think using the series as your connection for Mickey's Marchers is a great idea.

Don't forget to go back to January. You may find some books that you have already read which will connect.☻

And you really only need a minimum of 6 books to complete the challenge. I always have to extend the year long for the speed readers in the group so they get challenged too.

message 647: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Gomes I was wondering can I count books that I have read this year, but before I joined this group?

Im sorry if this was already asked I did skim through this thread but didn't see it.

message 648: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59911 comments Yes, as long as you started them after Jan 1, 2014, and that they fit into the rules of the challenge.

message 649: by Anne (Booklady) (new)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments I did rearrange Mickey Mouse to read Under the Dome (1074 Pages).

Do I get X-tra credit? Some parts are a little slow, then King picks the pace back up.

message 650: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2101 comments Any idea why the last two books I've read are not adding up to my Chunkster count? I have filed them correctly in my Chunkster shelf and they are marked as read with today's date. Has anybody else had this problem lately?
