Sajid Rabby (rabbyx7xafc) | 10 comments okaaay, my first post in this group so here it goes!

The primary thing that im looking for in the book is a romantic plot with a tragic or sad ending...

the romantic plot doesnt have to be the main plot of the book. it could be a sub-plot....
but the ending has to be sad/heartbreaking....

the protagonist preferably male... but alternative male-female chapters will do just fine......

not looking for the classics...

NO nicholas sparks books .......

have no problem with fantasy or YA....

somebooks which i liked/loved in this category are:

The Fault in our Stars by John Green

Leaving Paradise by Simone Elkeles (really wish there wasn't any Return to Paradise book... in that way the sad ending at the end of the first book wouldve been perfect..)

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher (doesnt particularly has a 'sad ending'... the whole book is altogether sad and tragic)

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (although many people hated the ending, I loved it! huge fan of tragic endings!)

cheers! :)

Verlkungen | 3 comments Definitely definitely definitely The Time Traveler's Wife!!

Also if you fancy a nice vampire novel check out The Silver Kiss

And if you don't mind fantasy and going through three books to get to it, you might like The Black Magician trilogy (first one is The Magicians' Guild) or His Dark Materials trilogy (first one is The Golden Compass)

Romance is definitely a subplot, but this book is fantastic and the ending is haunting and tragic on a lot of different levels.

Black Spring is based on Wuthering Heights, so it is necessarily tragic, and i thought it was spectacular.

and i know, i knooooow you said no classics, but if you ever decide that some day you want to read a classic, the most depressing book in the history of the world is Jude the Obscure. no lie.

Melanie (melwyk) | 6 comments JoJo Moyes' Me Before You is a must read for this theme! For a more classic read, Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle is beautifully melancholy.

I just finished reading Black Spring and wow! I really liked it! The writing certainly had a "classic" feel to it which, surprisingly I really loved! I'm certainly going to read Jude the Obscure now :D

The latest book I read which I'd say falls in this category is Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick... and I really really liked it!
