chris (chrisaflute) | 5 comments I'm a newbie here, and only joined to see if anybody had a lead on a book which my autistic son would like to read, but which is out of print. I do not consider Star Trek to fall into true SF categories, but youall may be able to help me? I'm looking for the first of two omnibuses called "Tales From the Captain's Table", published maybe in 2002. I saw one on Amazon at Christmastime, but didn't buy it. Now I can't find it anywhere. Anybody have resources for me? TIA! chris

Rindis | 80 comments Star Trek is SF. Not quite space opera, but it tends there sometimes. ^_^

Anyway, try this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1416...
It says it's in stock.

Also, used paperback stores can be a good source of Star Trek novels (many people just read them once and then turn them in), although that's no guarantee for this particular one

chris (chrisaflute) | 5 comments Thanks for hints, everyone. The Amazon link led to the second of the two omnibus books, which is what got him started on this. I'm looking for an older one than that, which his older bro got for a gift about 5 years ago, and has "mislaid" (sic teenagers/twenty-somethings!).

Just moved to my area, have to find a used book store--right now all I know is the big boxes, . I could buy him lots-o-cheap, couldn't I? Thank you both!

Peter | 18 comments You should also check your local library. I'm a librarian, and we sell (for 25-50 cents) old books that we are discarding, and many libraries tend to have quite a few star trek books (so many have been published).

Chrystal714 | 24 comments You could also try Powells online. http://www.powells.com/

I love that store, sigh I miss that store.

chris (chrisaflute) | 5 comments Thanks some more-- Powells only listed the newer one, and I will leave the house when (if???) I ever get over this crud, lol! Then I can go to the library and search out used book stores...

I know it's not Star Trek, but I've purchased a number of Doctor Who novels that are out of print. My best source has always been Ebay, so you might want to do a search for ST novel auctions on there. The best part about buying off Ebay is that a number of sellers put books up in lots, so you could snag anywhere from four to ten books in one go. I wish you luck in your search.

Liz (arcanepenguin) I don't know if this is too little to late, but I've found the site: www.chambal.com to be a great source to find rare books and also to get the best/most accurate price for books. (I price used books for a living).

Chambal compares all the major booksellers prices for both used and new.
