Hey everyone! Our July 15 - August 15 read will be:

We will start the discussion on JULY 15TH.

We'll do the discussion threads broken up by chapters like all the other times, but I figure this thread can be used by those frustrated with amazon's delivery slowness (or your library's slowness) or for any other reason. Just don't discuss the book in any detail here! (General "I'm a couple chapters in and I like it" comments are fine, but we'll start the real discussion threads on the JULY 15th.) For those of you just joining us, you can look through the previous threads in this Monthly Group Read section to see how we did it before because the process will be the same (there's also a thread just like this thread for the other books we've read together).

I bought thia book today at Barnes and Noble. Happened to see it as I was browsing to spend my birthday money. And I've already started...couldn't help myself. :)

My crazy library doesn't have this book - though they have something like 40+ other Heyers.
Anyway, I stopped into B&N yesterday and bought it. It looks WONDERFUL, can't wait to read it :)
I've not read anything about William, this will be exciting!

Robin - I'm glad to hear it's good from the beginning! I love a book that get's right to it :)

Mandy I envy you. Although it looks terribly interesting, and I have added it to my to-read shelf, I know I cannot possibly read it now. I have only read 8 chapters of When Christ and his Saints Slept AND I am trying to housetrain my 9.5 week old puppy Oscar! I hope you received my friendship request!

I know we haven't started the discussion yet but I really am liking the book. I really love the whole episode with William trying to win Mathilda. :)

Sooo...I finished this book today and am looking forward to discussing it with the group. I enjoyed it...just wish it had covered things that happened AFTER he became King, as I'm not at all familiar with his reign. Any suggestions on other books about him?

I have to admit I was never able to finish this one, don't know if I was having a bad book day but it came off a bit dry.

Try Elizabeth Chadwick's The Winter Mantle although the focus is on William's niece Judith but I recall he's in there a bit. Valerie Anand also wrote The Disputed Crown you might want to look at. It is the third in a trilogy but I think it should stand alone well enough (but there are some recurring characters from the first two).

Jean Plaidy has a Norman trilogy that's really good. It's out of print (at least in the U.S.), but I found my copies used without a problem. The Bastard King covers William I, and I can't remember the name of the other two, so I'll have to post them after I find the names.

Next two are Lion of Justice and Passionate Enemies.

I got The Bastard King from Paperbackswap.com and I'm getting started in it now. Thanks for the info!

Robin I clicked on paperbackswap.com. I was in another trading club and it din't work at all. Does this one work well if one lives in Europe, me Belgium! Is the company predominantly in the US? I am thinking noone will want to send books to Belgium! Do you have any idea concerning the quality of the book you receive? I mean it could be all ripped up! Thanks.

I don't know about mailing to Europe but books can only be sent if they are in good condition.

Chrissie, I believe paperback swap only works if you live in the U.S.

We have to get Laura in on this thread - she's in Brazil and I think she's using Book Mooch.

Book Mooch is what I think didn't work for me b/c there are so predominantly only FRENCH books available in Belgium. This I found strange b/c there are English speakers due to the European Union and NATO etc! But that is how it was. Few English language books available here! At least none I was looking for!

Lee is right; PaperSwap only works in the US. At Bookmooch, when you have already added some books in your Wishlist, you click on "Show related editions"; the system will show all available books in other editions. I think you should make your login by choosing the English language in order to get more books in English. I never had any trouble with different languages. At BM is nice to get out-of-print books since for more recent books, there is a huge queue.

Additionally, the book´s quality is provided by the previous owner as "CONDITION".

No way I'm going to be ready to start this tomorrow! I hope some others are a bit behind with me!
Should be able to start by the end of the week. I'm excited about this one, but GWTW is taking me forever to get through.

I'll probably post the discussion threads for this read tonight since tomorrow is the 15th.

I'm still in GWTW too Mandy, so I'll be a tad behind as well. I'm really excited about this book though!
