Heather L (wordtrix) Since it failed to win twice previously...

The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss

message 3: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments LOL! I think more than that, Heather! We may just have to read it one of these days.

message 4: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Hey, you never know -- keep nominating something and eventually it might just win. ☺

message 5: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments True. Sometimes I feel people give up on their nominations too soon.

message 6: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) I agree. It's easy to become discouraged if your book isn't chosen, but sometimes you have to keep at it, and keep talking it up.

Of course, sometimes it can take months or even years, but eventually your book might be chosen. One I nominated for a December read two years ago in another group . . . was finally chosen for this December. Of course, I already read the book two years ago on my own, but the point is it eventually did get chosen. ☺

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 13013 comments I don't know if you think it suitable because of the content but I've always wanted to read Lady Chatterley's Lover as it was such a controversial classic book.

message 9: by Saxonjus (new)

Saxonjus | 138 comments Lisa Ive never read Lady Chatterley but willing to give it a go! Hello everyobe :)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Thanks, everyone!

Lisa, don't know if it qualifies either with a HEA but I'll add it for now.

Saxonjus, looks like a nice book but it's not old enough yet to be considered classic. Sorry.

message 12: by Saxonjus (new)

Saxonjus | 138 comments Oops sorry didn't realise re Classics mmmm thinking

Bridget Jones's Diary (Bridget Jones, #1) by Helen Fielding

Its not old but re sales & influence surely its a classic

message 13: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments give it another 20 or 30 years and it could very well be ☺

message 14: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments I can't find anything that tells me exactly how old a book has to be to be considered classic. I did read a reference that said it was a book that is enjoyed by several generations. Since most things are considered antique or classic after I think 50 years, I'll go with 50 years for books.

So what I'm saying is it needs to have been first published at least 50 years ago.

message 15: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Yes, I would say 50 years.

message 16: by Rachel Annie (new)

Rachel Annie (snapdragoness) Is there a shelf of previous reads for reference?

message 17: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Here is the shelf in the group bookshelf that have the previous classic reads on it...

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Thanks, everyone!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 13013 comments I had a look at the bookshelf.

No classic bookshelf is complete without Wuthering Heights so I can change Lady Chatterley's Lover with that if its okay.

message 24: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Okay, Lisa, I'll add it. I vaguely remember reading it in my teen years but don't remember much about it.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 13013 comments It's a story about passionate love and hate and has some of the most beautiful prose every written.

message 26: by Laura (new)

Laura Parker | 1 comments Nine Coaching Waiting - Mary Stewart, or

message 28: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Oh, I've been trying to find a library copy of My Brother Michael. I don't think I read that one back in the day of my Mary Stewart phase.

message 29: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Found it! At a little library nearby. I don't have a library card there... Things to do for 2014.
