Adriana | 3888 comments THE MONOPOLY GENRE CHALLENGE
Duration: January 1 - December 31, 2014

It's a subgenre challenge with a twist! This challenge uses a monopoly board, and each color is a different genre. Read the subgenre listed on each property--your goal is to get as many monopolies (all the subgenres listed for each color) as possible.

(Click to go to the full size version of the board.)

For example, if I were going for the suspense category, I would need to read one crime, one thriller, and one mystery book. A single book cannot count for multiple properties for this challenge--one book per category.

The max number you can go for is eight because there are eight possible monopolies on the board.

Adriana | 3888 comments Had to look up the difference between an autobiography and a memoir. The differences are there but it's hard to find even one instance of an autobiography that I would like so if I ed up doing that section it'll probably be the closest thing to a memoir I can get. Any suggestions?

message 24: by Erika (last edited Dec 07, 2013 05:06PM) (new)

Erika (erikarae) | 708 comments Does the Historical monopoly refer to historical fiction that takes place in each time period or a book published within that time period? Or either?

I'm guessing since it's a genre challenge it's referring to historical fiction, but I'm just curious!

message 25: by Adriana (last edited Dec 07, 2013 05:49PM) (new)

Adriana | 3888 comments @Natalie- Awesome! You always do the most in each challenge I've seen so far.
@Erika- For the Historical monopoly it could be either fiction or non-fiction so it would be set in that time but it doesn't have to be published in that time period if you don't want to go that route. Of course there won't be that much to choose from non-fiction except like Beowulf or something like that.

There are other sections where it would just be historical without the fiction: under Non-fiction and under Biographical (for ex. a biographical book could be on Catherine the Great which set in a certain time period and is not a fictional book). Hope that helps (:

Erika (erikarae) | 708 comments Okay, I've been staring at this challenge for a couple of days now debating whether or not I was going to sign up. I'm already signed up for 5 yearly challenges, but I love the idea of this challenge so much so I'm going to give it a shot!

I'll sign up for 4 genres:
Young Adult, Suspense, Fantasy, Science Fiction

Madelyn (madhalverson) I'd like to try all 8. This being my 1st challenge, I may have a lot of questions. Like, how long do I have to complete this challenge?
