Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Great list so far Marnie! I really like your links as well! If you read Dark Fire I would love to hear your thoughts on it. I thought it was just as good as Dissolution if not a tiny bit better :)

message 8: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Great links! haha, where do you wear a ring.

message 9: by Marnie (last edited Dec 16, 2013 09:37AM) (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I've already tweaked my 5/6 book. I probably should go one book at a time because I'm such a moody reader but I'm having so much fun making lists!

Lisa- Matthew Shardlake is high on my priority list to complete this year. Thanks to you - I loved Dissolution and am looking forward to continuing with this series.

Cherie- I think having fun with the links is an added bonus to this challenge. :)

message 10: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (brendah04) I love your links! lol

message 11: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments Are you planning on reading the third book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Return of the King?

Apparently, Christopher Lee, who played the character of Saramon in the movies had been a huge fan of the trilogy before he played the role and re-read The Lord of the Rings annually! Just an interesting trivia tid bit thrown in there. :)

message 12: by Marnie (last edited Dec 16, 2013 12:50PM) (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I absolutely plan on reading the third book. My reading resolutions for 2014 are The Lord of The Rings trilogy plus The Matthew Shardlake Series. This challenge works perfectly for me. I didn't add it to my Slick's books in case I need a little break.

I love trivia...and the idea of rereading books. When it's a book I love I can always find something new to enjoy about a story. It mostly comes down to too many books to read and not enough hours in the day.
Do you reread many books?

message 13: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Thanks Brenda- I am having fun with them :)

message 14: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments Marnie wrote: "Do you reread many books?"

I ended up re-reading quite a few books this year which surprised me. I'm thinking of re-reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as The Hobbit. I read them all when I was a young adult and I love the movies.

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I am planning to read The Hobbit soon and would like to read LOTR's too - I've not read any of them but I absolutely loved the movies. I don't reread many books mainly because I have so many that I haven't read. There are only two books that I have reread ever and they are Running with Scissors and The Celestine Prophecy.

message 16: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I should (re)-read those books too, but I hardly ever reread books for the same reasons you mention Sarah. I bought all three LOTR books together with my niece before the first movie came out, intending to read the books before watching the movie. I managed with the first one, I was halfway through the second one when we went to see part 2, and after that I never continued reading. I read the Hobbit for English class in high school, so that must have been at least 12 years ago as well.

message 17: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I read The Hobbit during Toppler camp last summer- loved it. I have seen The Hobbit movie (1st part) but am waiting until I read the books to see the movies. That's why I am starting with them- they need to be read :)

message 18: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments I just saw Part 2, Desolation of Smaug on Friday. It was so good. And now we have to wait a year to finish the movie trilogy.

message 19: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Unfortunately the movie incorporates parts of The Silmarillion which I haven't read and doesn't seem to have audio yet. I was hoping Rob Inglis would do it after the movies came out. The Hobbit though is one of my top favorite books of all time.

message 20: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments I like the way you linked them too, Marnie! :)

The Hobbit and LotR were the first books I read under the covers with a flashlight so my parents wouldn't know I was reading half the night. I've wanted to do a LotR reread for some time too. I keep wondering if I'll still love them as much!

message 21: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Thanks Laura. I absolutely loved The Hobbit when I read it last year and am chomping at the bit to start The Fellowship of the Ring. Rereading is like visiting an old friend isn't it? You wonder if you still have anything in common?

message 22: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments That's it exactly. hehe!

message 23: by Removed (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Slick's Slug is oozing along. Both books I've read (1.5 for this challenge) have been 5 stars- yippee! My goal is to get one more Night Film done this month.
Loving this challenge!

message 25: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments Sounds like Slicks Slugs are slip sliding along! Two 5 stars out of two is a great start!

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Way to go, Marnie!

message 27: by Jess :) (new)

Jess :) | 248 comments Wow Marnie, you've really made some rapid progress this year! I look forward to hearing whether you enjoy Tess of the d'Urbervilles. Given your reading pace, I doubt I'll be waiting long. :)

message 28: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Tess is a February group read in another group so I fitted it into my list so is the Jim Henson book. I do enjoy a " double dip" book. This challenge is actually helping me organize my reading which is making it easier to have books ready when I need them. Being more organized... an added bonus to reading- who knew?

message 29: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I finished The Two Towers which completes one of my Chunksters ( when you add it with The Fellowship of the Ring. So far I have liked The Hobbit the best then book 1 followed by book two. Need a little break from Hobbiton but I will complete the series this year.
The second series I plan to get through this year is the Matthew Shardlake books. I have started reading Dark Fire. C.J. Sansom is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine.

message 30: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Wow Marnie, you're moving along fast! Good to hear you enjoyed the books so much :)

message 31: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I had to tweak my list again ( loving the flexibility Janice). The Woman in White was selected for my real life book club... So I had to fit it into Slick's.

message 32: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments You are doing great Marnie! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Dark Fire! :)

message 33: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, I think you will like The Woman in White, Marnie. I hope so, anyway!

message 34: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments I'd like to read Dark Fire too and I'm thinking maybe Fingersmith as well, since I loved another one by her - The Little Stranger.

You're really boogieing along, Marnie!

message 35: by Marnie (last edited Jan 17, 2014 04:28AM) (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I have about 100 pages left in Dark Fire Lisa and I like it even more thanDissolution ( which I gave 5 stars to). I like the side characters more. It is taking me a while to finish because I had an unexpected trip come up and this chunkster took up too much room in my suite case :). I'm home now so I'm hoping to finish soon.

I started The Woman in White Cherie because I had it on my kindle... I can't wait to get back to it. Only 10% in but I am very intrigued.

Laura Fingersmith was wonderful- I highly recommend it.

I seem to be stuck in Victorian/ Tudor England- good thing I can't smell it! :)

AddedThe Little Stranger.

message 38: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I made my Micky's list. I'm not crazy about the link between 11/12 and am open to suggestions. These two books are as far apart as any two books can be.

Oh, another Winkie Collins book.
uhhh. Faces on covers? That is all I can come up with. :)

message 40: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Right Cherie- I'm still working on it :) I was even trying syllables and number of letters in title.

message 41: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments W. Ward to Wilkie?

message 42: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Ah, Rusalka has it: Author's first name and Author's last names start with W.

Isn't it amazing how long you can stare at things and never see them, no matter how hard you try?

We used to have "buddy checks" to review work on instructions and bill of materials when we thought we were done. A 2nd and 3rd set of eyes are such a huge plus for that kind of work. I still tell my engineers that they need to review the mark-ups to make sure things are correct before I promote engineering change orders. I HATE doing things over.

message 43: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Yep- the W works and it never entered my mind. Thank you for the help ladies.

message 44: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59919 comments Also, both titles are two words.

message 46: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1789 comments Wow, you're doing good. 5 five star books in Slicks....

I have The Woman in White added for later in the year, I'm looking forward to it. :)

message 47: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Dawn- I absolutely loved it! I am now looking to add more Wilkie Collins to my TBR.

I think the reason I have been so lucky with my Slick books is that most of them have been books I have been meaning to get to but other books/ challenges have got in the way. This challenge has made it easier to get to them ( hat tip to Janice).

message 48: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1789 comments Well, I'm mostly getting to books that have been on my shelves for awhile too but I'm not having near as much luck! :)

message 49: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Slick's is done.
