John (johnred) Today I hit the 30% mark in Dune, which seems like a good place to have a discussion thread. This is up to and including the scene where the Lady Jessica and Thufir Hawat have a one-on-one showdown regarding the suspicions against Jessica.

And what a fantastic scene that was, huh? Nothing better than a dignified lady who also kicks ass. I really like Thufir, but he kind of had it coming to him there. I hope we get to see Jessica throw down in some real combat at some point.

The characterizations in this book are so great. I like seeing Leto starting to crack a bit under the stress of having to suspect his love of treason. (Not that I don't like the Duke, just saying that it's some good character development)...And I can't wait to see how Yueh deals with knowing that his treachery is being blamed on Jessica.

I think if i were going to complain about anything at this point, it would be that the story's worldview is VERY narrow. We've seen almost everything only from the POV of the Atredies. It would be really nice to get out and see through the blue eyes of some Fremen. I'm confident that it will happen soon, though.

I'm alternating between reading the Kindle edition and listening to the audiobook during my commute. Has anybody else got the audiobook? It's pretty amazing! They have multiple voice actors and everything. Great production.

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) The audiobook is one of the best produced books, in my opinion. Would recommend it to anyone that enjoys audio.
