2014 NON-FICTION Challenge

I also had a very good non-fiction read year. It turns out that it was mostly at the beginning of the year - so I wonder if that means I prefer reading NF in cold weather.

Yes, NF takes me longer also.
To help me along with NF reads, I try to read a chapter a day (or at least some reasonable break point) so I can stay engage and on target with NF books. This allows me to read fiction books which is always drawing my attention away from NF.
I actually also do this with short stories collections (a story a day) and have found that I am able to enjoy each story for itself.
I find myself dragging with nonfiction as well. Even when I'm really into it I think it's the conversational style that it's written in is what makes it drag for me.

Good strategy!

Please add me to the list of participants. I am also accepting the "New to You" challenge. I will post my level on that page. Can't wait!!!

I'm gonna change mine to Emerald. Oh I'm not a big fan of NF! But a couple of my favs of 2013 were NF so what the hell emerald it is!
1. Slave Narratives: A Folk History of Slavery in the United States from Interviews with Former Slaves
2. The Game of Life and How to Play It

Beverly, thanks for the suggestion! I'm usually ambitious to start and the...I get sucked back into my fiction reads and well, you know the rest of the story! But, I will do this. Reading a section or chapter per day is reasonable AND achievable. Looking forward to getting to MORE of my NF interests and exceeding this challeng's goal! :)
Happy New Year and Happy Reading!!

I don't think I will get any non-fiction in this month. I KNOW I will get at least one next month with the group read I Put a Spell on You: The Autobiography of Nina Simone.
I think Andrew is blowing us out of the water on this one! :0)
I'm joining a bit late, but I'm excited about this! I've been wanting to read more African and African-American nonfiction for a while. I'm going to aim for the sapphire (6 books). This will be a slow month, but I'll have loads of time during the summer.
