anthea (saph95) Hello! I recently wrote a post about this topic on my blog! I'd love to hear your thoughts and feelings about it too!

http://originalbooker.blogspot.co.uk/...

message 2: by cc (new)

cc (caitlinisakittycat) I'm more bothered by TV spoilers - the midseason finale of The Walking Dead got spoiled for me & ruined my life - than I am by book spoilers. I don't have a huge problem avoiding spoilers on YouTube - I only watch Bookables & PolandbananasBOOKS, both of whom let you know before they get to spoilery bits - or even here on goodreads. I see spoilers on here all the time, yes, but rarely accidentally & there are quite a few reliable reviewers on here who DO block out the spoilers in their reviews so that they don't ruin your book reading experience. I'm not sure why spoilers haven't bothered me in awhile - I figured out half the Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows twists before the book was released - & I've actually been seeking to spoil myself on certain books so I don't have to finish the stupid things... Maybe it's my disappointment in the books I've been reading lately.
Either way, spoilers can be frustrating, but I haven't struggled with it as far as books go on awhile.

message 3: by anthea (new)

anthea (saph95) I totally get what you're saying! I became so anti-social when I was watching Game of Thrones because I started like when Season 3 ended, so I was catching up and I didn't wanna be spoiled so I didn't speak to anyone at all! I didn't want it to be spoiled at all hah!

I watch those too! I've kinda learn to watch review videos/book discussions AFTER I've read the book JUST IN CASE. I've come across SO many spoilers in my time I just don't want books to get ruined for me.

When I was reading Clockwork Princess - Cassandra Clarae (like 3 months after it came out) I was literally 3 pages away from the epilogue and someone completely spoiled it for me. I wanted to strangle them! Made me so angry!

So when I read a book now, I tend to stay away from talks/reviews about them until I've finished it

message 4: by cc (new)

cc (caitlinisakittycat) That's a good plan. Haha. I tend to stay away from reviews on books I'm already invested in. For me, I either care what others thought about it before I buy it, after I read it, or in the middle when I hate it.

message 5: by J.S. (new)

J.S. (jsedge) | 28 comments I hate spoilers. TV, film or books. I avoid goodreads reviews on books until I've finished that book and then I read them to see if folk agreed with me :p But, today I wanted recs for new stuff to read. I've just finished sea of tranquility which I adored, so i found a discussion on 'books similar' and there was one book mentioned on there that I was already considering picking up then further down the discussion, they started talking about the ending. That seriously pee'd me off. No spoiler tags or anything, just a full scale conv on how the book ends and how disappointing they found it :( Hate that.

message 6: by Brandi (new)

Brandi (crimsonquill157) Ugh. The ending of Allegiant was spoiled for me because a news article neglected to add a spoiler tag. Very not happy about that.

message 7: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Ferrante (bonnieferrante) I hate movie trailers. They always ruin the suspense for the movie. If it's a comedy, they reveal the funniest parts.

message 8: by cc (new)

cc (caitlinisakittycat) That sucks, Joanne. People needa get it together & be considerate of others.

message 9: by J.S. (new)

J.S. (jsedge) | 28 comments Caitlin wrote: "That sucks, Joanne. People needa get it together & be considerate of others."

Yup, indeed they do. I couldn't find it in me to read that book after I knew how it ended. Nevermind. Sigh.

message 10: by Mafer (new)

Mafer Castellanos (mcst__) | 2 comments Nowadays it's really hard to avoid spoilers because you either run into someone and they end up telling you every little detail or you accidentally read something on the internet so yeah, I'm obviously not a fan of spoilers (who is? Haha) but neither do I hate them.. they're inevitable..

message 11: by Tayla (new)

Tayla Potayta (taylapotayta) | -31 comments The thing I hate about spoilers is people yelling at others for seeing them.

When there is something that I know is popular and I haven't read/watched I will stay off social media. Once I finally see/watch it. i get really excited and talk about it.

I believe it is not the persons fault for showing you spoilers, its your fault for not being careful.

Anyone can most what they want.

**This is all talking out other sites like twitter. If you are talking spoilers on goodreads, use the hider. Its there for a reason.

message 12: by Nicole (new)

Nicole I've stopped reading reviews on goodreads before reading the book, because so many people post spoilers and don't hide them.

message 13: by Zarish (new)

Zarish Fatima (zarishfatima94gmailcom) I really care for the spoilers I watch them read them before starting anything new book movie tv shows what I despise in suspense and not knowing

message 14: by Aisya Raisya (new)

Aisya Raisya (aisyaraisya) | 63 comments I hate spoilers. when I accidentally read or heard spoilers I jst want to go back in time and stop my self. cause where's the challenge when we're already know

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather (crystalmirror) | 16 comments If I know they're coming, it's my choice to read them or not. If someone just tells me, it irritates me. I try not give any myself, unless asked. It's rude.

message 16: by Lucy (new)

Lucy | 22 comments Spoilers ruin the effect of a book because readers are not supposed to read whilst knowing what will happen in the end. It completely destroys the suspense of a story. Sometimes, the only reason why I keep reading a novel is because I want to know the ending.

message 17: by Nellie ☾ (new)

Nellie ☾ (derpnerys) | 185 comments YES. Like how Allegiant got ruined for me. I saw the spoiler (THE spoiler about THE character) on Facebook when someone commented about it on the Divergent movie page and it's just so irrelevant. Like why would you place it there when Allegiant just got released (and obviously a lot still haven't read it), and the page is about the movie -_- I was so disappointed and I regretted reading through the comments. So when I read Allegiant, I didn't even have the chance to be sad about it because I already knew what would happen. Tsk.

I only love spoilers when I myself would look for them, but I hate getting across them accidentally, where there are no warnings or something.

message 18: by Mati (new)

Mati (matiraine) | 4 comments Oddly enough, it depends on how busy I am. Sometimes, I'm grateful for a spoiler because it lets me slow down and enjoy the book. I've read posts to find out how a book ends so I wouldn't read the entire thing in one sitting. While it takes away some of the suspense, it keeps me from trying to stay awake in an early class on three hours of sleep.

message 19: by William (new)

William (throneoffandoms) | 60 comments I hate spoilers. I've been spoiled for Allegiant, The Death Cure, Mockingjay, TFIOS, and pretty much every death in Harry Potter. There are probably more, but i cant think of any at more at the moment.

message 20: by Red (new)

Red (littleredreader) I hate spoilers, so when I don't ask for them but they are told to me, or I accidentally read them because there is no warning, I get very frustrated. I only just FINALLY got around to reading and finishing Divergent. I was put off on the series for so long because Allegiant was spoiled for me.

message 21: by chinami (last edited Apr 26, 2014 03:22AM) (new)

chinami | 126 comments i hate spoilers. when i finished clockwork prince and joined discussions there were too many spoilers for book 3. except for the glorious epilogue the whole book was spoiled. to top it i saw that dratted family tree before starting the first page of clockwork princess. i hate spoilers. when i read allegiant, i ws to jittery and read some spoilers willfully. that did not hurt but CP2 did.

message 22: by Shadowhunter (new)

Shadowhunter Clary (ShadowhunterClary) | 11 comments Yes I hate spoilers! Yet I always seem to find myself googling something about the book I'm reading and finding what happens at the end, or sometimes even willing to find something about it by accident I am so impatient and I want to know the end if I'm busy and can't read my book but I always regret it later.

message 23: by Faery (new)

Faery (1234ideclareathumbwar) | 135 comments The Fault in Our Stars by John Green was ruined for me. :(

message 24: by C.T. (new)

C.T. Tunnell (CTTunnell) | 4 comments Most of the time I hate spoilers. But sometimes I'm so excited and eager for something that I'll let people tell me about it, or I'll look up the info myself.

I'll do that and then curse myself fiercely for actively ruining it. What is discovered cannot be undiscovered, after all :p

message 26: by C.T. (new)

C.T. Tunnell (CTTunnell) | 4 comments @Joanne: lol so true

message 27: by J.S. (last edited Jun 27, 2014 03:26PM) (new)

J.S. (jsedge) | 28 comments ^^ *nods emphatically* we're idiots :p

My sister's especially terrible... she's obsessed with game of thrones TV series. I watch it too but I've also read the books. She'll ask about what's coming and I'm like: 'You don't really wanna know, quit asking.' But then she'll start spouting guesses and I can feel her intently gauging my reactions...the pressure she puts on me not to give stuff away is crushing, lol.

message 28: by C.T. (new)

C.T. Tunnell (CTTunnell) | 4 comments I haven't watched any of the show yet, but I've started on the first book. I know the reputation of this series in terms of killing off main characters, but I read some pretty grim dark science fiction (Warhammer 40k) and I thought I could easily handle these books. The big difference is that the characters in A Game of Thrones are a lot more sympathetic, making it really hard to deal with the bad stuff. I just got to the part where Eddard Stark arrives to the Red Keep (page 190 in my little paper back) and I'm already dreading what might happen to the characters if I keep reading. It's torture >.<

LOL I'm like your sister, My friend knows what happens on the T.V show "Pretty little liars" and I'm always pressuring her into telling me what happens, even though I don't like spoilers ^_^

message 30: by Afrah (new)

Afrah (afrah_hi) SPOILED FOR ME:
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter, #6) by J.K. Rowling

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I KNOW RIGHT?! TFIOS is spoiled for, like, everyone!

message 32: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicasal) Well.... ALLEGIANT was spoiled for me. i read the whole book with my heart tied in a knot, fearing for what was coming...and then it happened. and i cried. Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth

message 33: by Rin (new)

Rin (nasrinnie) | 56 comments When people spoil for me, I never talk to them again xD

allegiant was spoiled for me too

message 34: by Priya (last edited Jul 15, 2014 05:13PM) (new)

Priya | 50 comments I swear, I'm the only one of my friends who actually read the ending to Allegiant. They all got it spoiled for them somehow. Also, people still spoil series-es like LotR and Harry Potter, but people who were kids when they came out are reading them now. Some books aren't fads - they're classics! TFIOS wasn't actually ruined for me, but everyone said it's so so so sad, and that just made it predictable.

message 35: by Caretta (new)

Caretta Qn (carettaqn) I have been building up the courage to read TFIOS for like, AGES, I ordered it last week and accidentally read the ending on an "Anna and the french kiss" review. I'm FURIOUS. This sucks.

You all people that got spoiled have my full support.

Kristin | 2 comments Allegiant! Gosh! Now i don't want to read that

message 37: by Ricky (new)

Ricky (spider-fan) All There Is To Know About The Fault In Our Stars:

(view spoiler)

message 38: by Ricky (new)

Ricky (spider-fan) I was lucky not to get Allegiant spoiled for me - I bought it the weekend it came out, so I was able to read it all through one Saturday afternoon and evening.

Things that have been spoiled for me include:

* The death of (view spoiler) in How To Train Your Dragon 2
* The ending of The Lego Movie
* The death of (view spoiler) in Up (which, incidentally, contributed to my inability to enjoy that movie)
* The ending of TFIOS
* The parallel universe on Fringe
* The death of (view spoiler) - not that it made it any less heart-tearing.

message 39: by Nika (new)

Nika | 1024 comments Does anyone watch Scrubs? Cause Dr. Cox spoiled The Sixth Sense... Baad move^^

message 40: by Ricky (new)

Ricky (spider-fan) I do, but I've already seen The Sixth Sense (how that's considered Shyamalan's best is beyond me) anyway, so nothing was spoiled that I hadn't already seen.

message 41: by Nika (new)

Nika | 1024 comments For me, it was and there really is no sense in watching it now.

message 42: by Ricky (new)

Ricky (spider-fan) @Nika: You don't need to watch Sixth Sense - it's way overrated. You want good Shyamalan, try Signs, or The Happening.

message 43: by Nika (new)

Nika | 1024 comments I know Signs:) that's a good one, true! But haven't seen The Happening yet.

Caretta Qn (carettaqn) Nika wrote: "For me, it was and there really is no sense in watching it now."

Sixth sense was spoiled for me too but I enjoyed it because I kept in mind details I wouldn't have paid attention to without knowing the twist. Still a great movie, you should watch it:)

For the Spiderman one, I predicted it, but after that I had to keep on pausing th emovie to cry.

message 46: by Storm (new)

Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 265 comments In my family we call telling someone spoilers Pulling a Titi (Auntie in spanish.) why?

My aunt, my mother's sister has spoiled to date EVERYTHING and this has come to a rule among us readers, if we see a book we're reading on someone's shelf, WE DO NOT ASK ABOUT IT. If we mention it, we do not say spoilers, we do not ask who dies, we do not say ANYTHING except: "It's really good." or "I hated it!" and my aunt's defense to her spoiling:

"Well...I always see it or read it even if it's spoiled."

No one sides with 'er on THAT one.

message 47: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 344 comments As an author, one thing that really bugs me are spoilers in reviews of my books. There's nothing worse than a review that's complimentary but gives the plot away without flagging that they have spoilers in them.

message 48: by Carolina (new)

Carolina Lopez | 18 comments It depends, idkw, sometimes I hate when someone's comes with the stupid spoilers and mess my reading, but sometimes when I'm desperate I look for them by myself in google. XD

message 49: by -RininTa- (new)

-RininTa- (rinz) | 103 comments Sometimes I don't mind with spoilers especially for a book that I don't know (well, the synopsis doesn't work either). But most of it is annoying. Spoilers make me have to put off a book that I want to read :(

message 50: by Duchessbookworm (new)

Duchessbookworm If i have to know like dying to know, I'll look it up and shut up. I hate when people spoil something for me. I wouldn't do it to you so you shold shut up. Unless i ask dont tell me. This girl i dislike with a burning passion, told me the ending of divergent. I was beyond mad
