Welcome Cristina:) To link your books, go to the top of your comment box where it says "add book/author". Click on that, type your book title/ISBN in and when you see the correct one in the drop down box, hit "add" and it will appear. You can do the title and/or the cover pic, and also the author...good luck!

Hi,

I gotta ask, since I.m a bit confused: it.s Translated Fiction: reading a book in another language than the original?

Thanks and a great Week-end :)
Cristina

I think so, Christina. For example, I'm currently reading Doctor Zhivago in English, but it's been translated into English from the original Russian - two different translations into English exist, btw :

Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak

I'd count that for 'translated fiction' and collect my 'bonus points' ;-)'

Yes! It was a bit dry, sort of a travelogue ... at first. Then, suddenly it grabbed you! I could hardly read, at the train station near the end ... I was yelling at the inspector ;-). Loved it SO much, I rented the movie. Which was horrible :-p

Jo Ann | 11 comments Since Valentines Day is coming up I thought I might try to knock romance off my list. Romance is also my most least favorite of all the genres. Anybody got some recommendations for a romance hater? Please, no love triangles, no young-adult drama, something on the adventure or comedy side would be good. I have no preference for time periods gothic, contemporary, ect... is fine. Ideas?

Hmmm, for a romance hater? That could be tough :-p

Here are two easy, quick, and I thought, fun ones :):

Just This Once (Escape to New Zealand, #1) by Rosalind James - Just This Once, by Rosalind James

The Look of Love (The Sullivans, #1) by Bella Andre - The Look of Love, by Bella Andre

I own them both on kindle, and they're both lending enabled (you can loan lending enabled titles one time), so if either catch your fancy, and you own or have access to a Kindle, message me your email address, and I'll lend the title to you :-).

Or, alternatively, you could just browse freebies on romance best seller list, on Amazon:

I would try something by Adriana Trigiani. I don't like romance either, but I've read several of her books and they all contain romance. But it is not the ooey- gooey, heart palpitating kind. It is a part of each book but not always the focus.

How about Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier Rebecca or Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice?

Pride and Prejudice has lasted two hundred years for a reason. At some point in your life you will meet the real life versions of most the characters in the book and while not laugh out loud funny, some of the characters will bring a smile.

Juno (junebrighton) I have fudged a bit on my Graphic novels title. I read Safe Area Goražde: The War in Eastern Bosnia, 1992-1995 which in format is exactly like a graphic novel, the difference being it is a true account of a journalist's experience of the Bosnian war. So it's kind of 'graphic journalism'. I would say, reading challenge or no, I'm glad I read it, although it's a tough subject and hard to take at times.I know in my heart of hearts I wouldn't have chosen a straight' history book on the subject...

M.L. | 309 comments I read the 2d book for my planned upgrade from the Easy Challenge -
Poetry - The Legend of Sigurd & Gudrún by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Loved it - epic Norse poem, it has everything, love, betrayal, treachery, destruction on a huge scale. Christopher Tolkien is the editor and includes JRR Tolkien's notes/lecture notes. I will definitely read more Norse legends, mythology.

M.L. | 309 comments No 3, Plays - The Mousetrap and Other Plays by Agatha Christie. I loved it. I read The Mousetrap, it's the longest running play. Christie had me fooled of course.

From Wikipedia, It has by far the longest initial run of any play in history, with its 25,000th performance taking place on 18 November 2012.

LyndiLea Hardman (lyndileahardman) | 31 comments I have completed the challenge!!! You can see my completed card above. I also chose to read the optional genres instead of just picking one of the two on the ones that had options making my total book count for this challenge 45. It was a lot of fun I can't wait to do it again next year.
