Place your nominations for January's BOTM here... Please remember we are looking for books about new beginnings, new possibilities, and celebrations. Also, please refrain from nominating your own book.

Thanks!

The Great Gatsby

message 3: by Claire (new)

Claire | 2 comments Black is the Colour Black is the Colour by Helen Howe is a great psychological mystery about someone starting a new life with a new lover only to find that it is not what she expected...

message 4: by Matt (last edited Dec 20, 2013 09:02AM) (new)

Matt | 1 comments The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Steppenwolf, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin.

message 5: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Gorman | 3 comments I'd like to recommend The Sum of Our Gods, a book about characters starting new phases in their lives (divorce, retirement, new relationships). The twist: Those characters are the gods of different religions (Thor, Apollo, Jesus, Yahweh, etc.). I think folks would love it, but I admit I'm probably biased. The Sum of Our Gods

message 6: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Rabinowitz | 1 comments I'd like Sense and Sensibility, Eat, Pray Love, Percy Jackson and lightening Theif, Enchanted April. You can say I am a bit open about the books I read, huh?

message 7: by Becky (new)

Becky Stephens (twistedbookjunkie) I nominate Black Redneck vs. Space Zombies by Steven Roy. Despite the strange title, it is a fun, fast read filled with aliens, space zombies, and an alien-lassoing redneck. You won't be disappointed!

message 8: by Linda (new)

Linda (httpgoodreadscomlinnievic) I heartily nomnate the memoirs, Reflections of Mamie - A Story of Survival by Rosemary "Mamie" Adkins. This heartwarming book ends in glorious celebration, reflecting the strength of her amazing spirit of hope. This is a revealing book of survival and how to overcome severe traumatization of child abuse in the most spectacular way.

Vardan Partamyan (vardanpartamyan) | 122 comments Speaking of new beginnings, how about a revolution in a dystopian society? I nominate I, the Provocateur

I would like to offer a second vote for, The Great Gatsby...surely one of the most immaculately written novels of the twentieth century.

I don't believe that you will get any argument regarding that observation.

message 25: by Mirella (new)

Mirella Muffarotto (mirellamuffarotto) | 5 comments The Village Bride of Beverly Hills
"After an arranged marriage in her native India, Priya moves with her husband to California, where they share a house with his parents. Playing the traditional daughter- in-law role, she’s expected to clean, cook, but the job, at a glossy Hollywood gossip magazine, isn’t at all what they had in mind for a traditional Indian wife. Can this fragile new love survive the pull between tradition and ambition?"

I think this book is definitely about new beginnings and new possibilities, don't you?

This is a must read for those who've been abused and those who need to know the signs to watch for. I gave this book a five star review worthy of all the stars in heaven.

Martha Love I am pleased to nominate "Reflections of Mamie - A Story of Survival" by Rosemary "Mamie" Adkins.

message 32: by Isis (new)

Isis (isisunit) | 12 comments Mine isn't the happiest story to start, but it is amazing and certainly about new beginnings and even celebration - Overcome: Burned, Blinded, and Blessed by Carmen Blandin Tarleton. It is a memoir, about a woman you may well have heard about in the news some years back - her ex returned and attempted to kill her, deliberately pouring lye all over her face and body, among other things. Not only did she survive, but her story since then is truly remarkable. An excellent read, and she is an excellent example of how I want to view my own life each and every day!
