I can't believe it's so close to the end of the year! It's time to nominate books for January and February's group read. Books must be:

(1) a collection of fairy, folk, myth tales or legends.

(2) A retelling of any fairy or folk tale, myth or legend.

(3) A critical study of a tale or an author.

(4) A work influence by fairy, folk, myths, or legends.

How time flies! I just wanted to add that if you would like to nominate a book, but are not sure which one, you can always check out the following lists for ideas:

For the adult read I nominate The Snow Queen by Joan Vinge, and for the YA read I nominate Iron Hearted Violet by Kelly Barnhill.

Ooh, I've been meaning to read The Snow Queen for quite a while now, but my library doesn't have it. This might be a good excuse t go buy it!

It seems like a really cool concept, and the cover is beautiful.

Just came home from the bookstore where I bought The Snow Queen so I really hope it wins!

If we don't get more nominations, I'll scrounge up an adult book or two, just to have something to vote on.

How about The Phoenix Dance by Dia Calhoun for Young Adult? It looks like a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses...

I'll nominate Daughter of the Forest for the adult fairy tale re-telling and Scarlet Moon for the YA

We keep having that issue. It's not really a problem. I love the fact that we have such a far range reading, and good taste group.

Happy New Year!

Time to start voting!

We had a ton of fantastic well-known nominations this time around so if your nominee doesn't win, feel free to re-nominate it next time!

Also if the book you voted for did not win, you can also start up a "Buddy Read" for the book you wanted! https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

We have our winners!

YA: Iron Hearted Violet by Kelly Barnhill
Adult: Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier

Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier and Iron Hearted Violet by Kelly Barnhill

We had lots of fantastic books nominated this month, so if your choice didn't win, feel free to re-nominate it for March/April or start a thread in the buddy reads folder.

I see the current group read says it'll finish on the 20th, so I'll set the dates for this group read from Jan 20th to March 15th... A few days shorter than normal but it'll let us get back onto the 15th to 15th schedule we used to have before the holidays got us behind.

Leann (7leann) | 237 comments I read and really liked Daughter of the Forest a couple of years ago. Not sure I will re-read it (so many books, so little time), but I hope you all enjoy it. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on it.
