It was intended as non fiction, but the one that you are considering I think is fine

message 402: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 494 comments Yeah, of course it doesn't really matter to anyone but me and not even me that much... :-) She did thank many Russians and many of the stories sounded like they could have been true. Oh and she did make that journey, too, during the same year that the novel is set.

Charlotte (charley_100) | 322 comments Picked up my final, 25th book, the travel book. I picked The Uke of Wallington: One Man and his Ukulele round Britain...a perfect read for me. Struggled to get hold of Wild by Cheryl Strayed throughout the whole year so have ditched that idea and just gone for one on the shelf and I think this will be a great read.

message 414: by Sally (new)

Sally Howes | 107 comments I finished my 23rd book for the challenge - Been on Shelf for 10 Years, Wuthering Heights. It was quite a disappointment, especially after waiting 10 years to read it! I just couldn't get past the fact that every character was either vile or ludicrous - 3★s.

My magic square now looks like this:

O X X X X
X X X X O

Paul, are we going to get to do another magic square in 2015? I hope so :-)

I'm reading it right now, Sally. So far I'm enjoying it. I know none of the characters are likable, but it's one of this rare cases when even that, I like the story anyway.

message 417: by Pat (new)

Pat Morris-jones | 1373 comments I disliked it until (many years ago) it was one of the only English books I could buy in Egypt. It made me so homesick (for the moors). I have loved it ever since.

message 418: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (charley_100) | 322 comments Just finished the Uke of Wallington.....and i am done! phew!
Great challenge :)

message 419: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 553 comments Well done Charlotte!

I'm on my final book now, which is my 'author shares your name' choice 36 Views of Mount Fuji: On Finding Myself in Japan by Cathy N. Davidson and is fascinating so far, an American lecturer's view of Japanese culture. After that, it's finishing off series books for me for the rest of the year!

message 420: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Well done Charlotte, all done just in time.

message 425: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (charley_100) | 322 comments Really enjoyed the uke....put me to shame. Have had a ukulele in the cupboard for a couple of years and has made me want to practise more! Good chirpy read. Good luck all those finishing now :D

message 426: by Cathy (new)

message 430: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (lasttothebar) Well done cathy

message 431: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Richmond | 8 comments I have loved this challenge - have read 21 of the 25 books. It has prompted me to try poetry - Roger McGough and I really enjoyed it. I wasn't keen to try anything recommended by Richard and Judy but it was a reasonable read (Apple Tree Yard by Louise Doughty). At last I have read the Master and Margarita about 25 years after my dad leant it to me!
Looking forward to the full deck in 2015.......
Thank you for thinking up these challenges.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments Yay well done Paul, what was the best book you read on the list?

message 435: by Paul (new)

Paul (halfmanhalfbook) | 5463 comments Mod
Probably Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. Brilliant and funny at the same time

message 436: by Jason (new)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1877 comments There is a graphic novel version of that isn't there? Might see if I can get that for full deck challenge.

message 439: by Paul (new)

The Blank Slate: The Modern Denial Of Human Nature. Thought it was going to a lot better than it actually was

message 449: by Sally (new)

Sally Howes | 107 comments I actually finished this challenge on 31 December - nothing like leaving things to the last minute, is there? LOL! My final book was the New Author category, City of Masks: by Ashley Capes. It was an impressive debut novel and exciting start to a trilogy - 3.5★s.

Thanks for a great challenge!
