Greta (goodreadsgreta) | 4545 comments What's your reading goal for 2014?

Maybe you're just trying to reach a number goal or maybe you're setting a different kind of reading goal for yourself in 2014. Please share!

Greta (goodreadsgreta) | 4545 comments Since I reached my 2013 goal of 125, I think i will ttry for 130 in 2014.

My other goals are sort of the same as last year: more buddy reads, finishing more series, and writing something in review about every book I finish.

message 5: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments I used to make higher goal each year. This year my goal was 160 books and I've already read 177 books so far. I really want to have 180 books next year but I also want to read more classic and fantasy, genres that I rarely read this year.

On the other hand, I often need more time to read those genres than contemporary or romance books. I think I'll start with 100 books and hopefully can increase it along the way :D

message 7: by cc (new)

cc (caitlinisakittycat) My goal is to read 70 books. I know that's not a lot, but lately I've been off my reading game and I think having a smaller goal will make it more achievable and help me get back into the grove of it.

message 8: by Mei (new)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments My goal in 2013 is 150 and I'm 3 books away in achieving it. I think I'll go with 120 for 2014 because it's going to be a busy year in college — hopefully, it's my last year. So here's hoping I'd read a lot on vacations :)

My other goals include: 1) finishing a series I already started first before starting a new one; 2) read more historical, I recently loved the genre; 3) try not to be lazy in making reviews; and 4) help authors by read-and-review.

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Probably 400.
I read 391/350 this year, so 400 isn't too much more.

Good luck to everyone with their goals next year! :)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) My 2013 goal was originally 50 and I have read 93 books so far! Woohoo! So my goal for 2014 will be 100!

Makes sense. It also takes me a long time to read books that are "classics" or that are just considered more serious novels.

3books away... You can do it!!

message 16: by Tati (new)

Tati I think I'll start with a 100 books, as I don't know if I'll have as much time to read as I had this year.

message 17: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) I'm not sure what my number will be just yet (maybe 120). I'm finishing up high school and beginning college this year, so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to read.

I do, however, have other goals in mind for year-long challenges I'll be taking part in:

-Complete/get completely caught up in at least 7-ll series this year. Reaching 12 or more would be better, though. :)

-Read and review 40+ review copies.

-Review as many books that I read as I can (There's quite a few books that I didn't write reviews of this year).

Good luck with your goals!
I dont know if you're the same way, but I get disappointed in myself when I don't manage to write anything about a book I finish

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

im hoping to do at least 2 books a month! i read fast, but im finishing high school so hopefully starting slow will be good.

Tayla Potayta (taylapotayta) | 3057 comments i did 82 this year so im trying to do 100 in 2014

message 21: by BookGirl (new)

BookGirl I want to do 60 this year. :)

Rachmi | 4882 comments Greta wrote: "Makes sense. It also takes me a long time to read books that are "classics" or that are just considered more serious novels."

Sometimes it makes me abandon the books when I cannot finish it after a couple of days, and think that I can finish many books that aren't too serious at the same time. But reading serious novels is one of my goal next year so I think I have to bear the time I need to finish it :D

message 23: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments I don't really have reading goals. Never thought about it - until now. I just read and read. I have an extremely low allowance, so my parents are the ones who buy me books, and they like to limit it to once a month (which is something I hate, I can finish a book in a day or two) so I could focus on my studies.

Now that I've heard of this, I'm planning to set 50 as my goal. I know it's extremely low, but it's still kinda hard to hit for me. Eighth grade is even harder, with 3 required electives among many other subjects. So I'll have to stick to 50 and see how many books I can read.

Before I joined GR, I never set reading goals either because it often stressed me out. But then I tried it and kind of liked it because it makes my reading more in schedule, though sometimes I still break it and have to reschedule it one way or another :D

message 25: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments @Rachmi Ooh. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to start piling up my books next year. :)

message 26: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Jamira, just enjoy your reading. I think how many books your goal isn't the main important thing because every body has different reasons and things to do. Therefore they set goal that suit them.

I think I read less than 50 books when I was in eighth grade :) with the same reason as yours. I have to save money to buy books I want to read because my parents only bought me 3 books a month (2 books that have to be related to my study). But once I can make my own money, I spent most of it for books :D

message 27: by jam (new)

jam (jamirUGH) | 64 comments I'm just turning Eighth grade next year, June. And the last quarter of seventh grade is pretty hectic as well. I really do hope I get to reach my goal. :D

message 28: by Nusrat (new)

Nusrat Mahmood (meowcart) | 1 comments 100 I guess...but I will increase it if I have done with the challenge before time.

message 29: by Maria (new)

Maria (mariathebooknerd) Will read at least 80 books this year. I will also join the "around the world in 80 books" challenge.

you can always change it later, if you read faster than you think you're going to :)

i increased mine a little this year too. good luck to both of us :)

message 36: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments I think I'll try for 100 this year. I didn't even come close to the number of books I wanted to read last year so hopefully I can read my goal and then some this year!

message 37: by Jalyn (new)

Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments Originally I set it at 150 for 2013 because I read 139 in 2012, but then I went through a reading slump that lasted for almost half of the year. I lowered my goal to 70, but between that reading slump and starting a new job in October, I only read 45 last year. I'm determined to do better this year!

Yes it does. :) I started the immortal rules yesterday, and had about 80 pages left to read today.
I finished it, and it counted.

message 42: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments I was debating between going for 450 or 400.
I went for 400 in the end though, because i have a few chunky books i need to read this year.

It was/is torture! Lol. At least we're past Christmas season now. Once the store is fully stocked again, we are allowed to read as long as we've done what needs to be done during each shift, so that's awesome :)

Thanks Hannelore! I was wondering the same thing. I started Revealed (House of Night, #11) by P.C. Cast in December and I'm wondering if it'll count when I finish it.

It's the date finished that determines whether a book counts for the goodreads challenge ☺ You could have started it in 2006 and if you finished in 2014 it would count ☺

message 49: by Joi (new)

Joi | 972 comments I did 100 last year and achieved it before December even began. So I plan on reading 150 books this year.!
