Never Fade discussion

I've been reading discussion topics and everyone always says that they hate Clancy. I love him. He reminds me of Warner from Shatter Me. And...I can't believe I'm admitting this...I ship Clancy and Ruby! Don't get me wrong, I ship Liam and Ruby too, but there's something about Clancy... So please tell me I'm not the only one!

ummm... Clancy is really creepy. Period. It's based on opinion but I think Clancy is the opposite of Warner from Shatter Me. When we first meet Clancy he puts on this nice caring person mask but on the inside he could care less for anybody and killed most of those kids at the camp. When we first meet Warner he has on a monster mask to hide his true self which is actually good he just needs to believe in himself to show it because he has so much guilt that he thinks he is not deserving to be a good person. Who Warner really is just seems so different than who Clancy really is too me but I can also see why people can compare them.

I LOVE CLANCY GRAY..... So I was really annoyed where he made his appearance in Never Fade. He was the only reason I was reading the series in the first place. Very disappointing & a big mistake. I was super hyped 4 the series, now I couldn't care less. And yes he reminds me of Aaron Warner too, at least Tahereh Mafi knows how to keep her readers happy, satisfied & hooked.

I really wanted him to end up with Ruby but the end of the 2nd book so RIPPED, SHATTERED, SCRAMBLED, RUINED, SCRATCHED, DESTROYED, TEARED, BURNED AND SPAT on that dream......... :(


Warner on the other hand would never do such a sad, miserable thing..... his a f ing hero in my eyes...♡♥♡♥♡♥

I don't think he should be with Ruby (Liam, duh) but I prefer him to Liam. He is intriguing to me.

no I love Clancy he is awesome when I finished the second book I felt so bad for him!!!!!!!!!!!!! so what if he is a potential rapist his redeeming quality is his looks I do like liam better but still love Clancy

I really liked Clancy too. He also reminds me of Warner. I was hoping Clancy turns into our anti-hero.

I love Clancy. But I also love Liam. And if Clancy turns into a good guy I'll sway his way. So he has to stay bad ^^

YES I LOVE CLANCY TOO!!!! I don't want him to die at all and when they were thinking about it at the end I was just like, "NO NO PLEASE NO I LOVE MY CLANCYBOO!"
Yeah and of course I ship Ruby and Liam more than anyone else in the world and whenever he said that he loves her I got the feels from my head to my toes BUT Clancy just has so much sass and I love him so much!:)

OH YEAH I THOUGHT OF WARNER WHILE READING THIS! But warner really redeemed himself in the 2nd book clancy just got worse. If he changed sure but if not then yeah i dont like him

I think Clancy has the potential. In the end, he's just like Ruby - lost, scared, gifted and cursed with this ability like everybody else his age with the exception that he isn't and never will be like everyone else his age, told he must change, be something he's not, that he's a monster. He's likely succumbed to self-loathing due to this, and has responded by taking on sociopathic qualities, trying to prove to himself and everyone else that monstrous, perhaps, but powerful, useful? Always - More than you could ever be.
If anything, Clancy is the most isolated and emotionally deprived character I have ever seen. It isn't a surprise he treated Ruby the way he did. She's a novelty - with his abilities, but pure. He would, reasonably, be simultaneously in awe by her and hate her. She has her own makeshift family, while his own is determined to strip him of his abilities and individuality. She has resisted going down his path.
When it becomes obvious she wants him to teach her how to hone her powers (I can't tell if she asks him or if he offers) he partially feels like he is ruining her and helping her.
He clearly doesn't know how to convey his attachment to another person. They'll screw him over, like everyone else. Like he would do. So he strikes first, and tries to take what he wants (sexually assaulting her? Raping her? It's never clear)
When he says, in response to Ruby asking why he wants to talk to him, "I missed you," wasn't a condescending lie.

I don't think he'll ever heal and become 'good'. He's too far broken for that. As a character, though, I love him. As a person, he's horrible.

liam is good, but i have a thing for some villans and badass/creepy character. I love clancy. so do i love the darkling, hate/like Sebastian ( although hes a perv, eww), love jace, love maxxon, love gregor, love valentine ( although hes a b word )

CLUBY IS BÆ OMG! I thought I was alone in this! I like that relationship like I like the one with clary and Sebastian (although there's is just plain NASTY). I love hearing about villains who like the main character, it just is interesting to read. I mean it makes it interesting, not in like a gross way, but it does!

I really like Clancy too despite the foolishness he brings to the table.

Clancy is a strong character. I feel hate towards him, which makes him very important person in the story.

Honestly, I just feel sorry for Clancy :/ he seems like a really lonely guy whose been through a lot.

That doesn't make everything he did right.

Other than that, I love the way he talks. Whenever Clancy comes into the story I cannot take him seriously. Ever. I just burst out laughing.

But for real, if there was a whole novel dedicated to Clancy Gray i would totally read it. I'd like to see his backstory and what made him the way he is.

LITERALLY ME RN. Like I know Im super behind cause its 2015 but CLANCY PLSSSSSSS

Clancy is one of my favorite characters in the book. He's threatening and funny and the perfect foil for Ruby. As a character, I love him, because I love to fucking hate him. I even understand people having a thing for the 'bad boy' of the story.

But, uh, Clancy and Ruby? I guess I'm a little unclear as to how people can be rooting for them as a couple after he manipulated Ruby over and over again before going the whole nine yards and sexually assaulting her. Can someone please explain to me why this is a thing?

Clancy and the Darkling both attract me and terrify me at the same time. They just feel unloved..... and they really do care for the main female protagonists. Clancy left that note that said he would have run, and the Darkling really wanted Alena to be his Queen..... especially with the powers

Clancy makes me think of hot Tom Riddle from the diary in Chamber of Secrets, he has the same charisma

Let's consider this for a moment: Clancy, the man who set up a "safe place" for kids that he planned to destroy and/or use for evil purposes. Clancy, the man who would brainwash children into becoming a private army. Clancy, the man who would manipulate people's minds on a whim.

This is not a man who is simply "misunderstood" or "lonely". He is evil, likely even before IAAN ever occurred. Do you really want this sociopath to be paired with the main character?

Yeah as I got further into the series my attraction towards Clancy pretty much vanished. I definitely don't see him with Ruby.

I NEVER would EVER think of Ruby and Clancy, I could care less about them. I ship Cole, not with anyone, just him as a character

I like Clancy he keeps you guessing. Is he this? or is he that? I always wanna know what's in his head. why he does what he does. more importantly if he does really like Ruby or is he just playing the game.

I don´t love him but don´t hate him either. I just think that he has the WORST parents ever and that really affected his way to see the world and the situations they are going through. But he is an amazing character and i kinda like him.

Clancy was the only good character in this book. You'll notice that the cliche girls will swoon over the cliched male leads obsessed with the main protagonist and the girl is their only reason for their existence, its unrealistic and pathetic.. the realistic guy is usually disliked by girls because he represents the harsh truth , yet i don't know how they dislike the character when the realistic males may be "evil" but are also charming, seductive, and intriguing when they want to be and they actually have a brain and have plans that go beyond just getting into the girl's pants or her heart, they usually start off wanting to get in her head and maybe toy with her heartstrings a little bit , i love it!!! the way they do it in books anyway. what i dont like is everyone trying to change them... they are perfect characters ...no i dont mean they dont have any flaws *cough cough* Liam ... i mean that despite their flaws which every character should have.........they are still an amazing character!!

Also I do not ship Ruby and Clancy... because Ruby sucks!! but if she was better i would ship it. lol

Yeah i wanted him to end up with Ruby too, although i realized it was only because i was putting myself in the protagonist's place. Because in reality , Ruby is a crappy character that doesn't even deserve Clancy. I just wanted him to have her because that's who he wanted and i liked his character. He is the only character i really liked. Zu was pretty cool i guess but ... meh, chubs was kinda a good character but i mean they really didn't make great characters.

am I the only one who wants clancy to end up with Nico because it seems that ruby doesn't deserve clancy, she kinda sucks

Why-- why would you hate a person that only wants to be loved back.?

Why do you only see the person that is highlighted than the shadow?

Why do you only see romance than the person that cares so much?

If giving your all to make your loved notice you is BAD then doing nothing at all to make her/him notice you is much MORE WORST is it?
