JazzRJ (jazz_reads) | 6 comments Finished this yesterday. I really enjoyed it. However, has anyone found the transition from part1 to part2 a little jarring? I did a little. Not in a bad way necessarily I was just a bit taken aback.

Stephanie | 6 comments Yes, at first I was annoyed by it and then at the end of the story I had to skim through that part again with my new fresh outlook. Throughout the whole bit I was like, why the Mormons? Why Nebraska? What does this have to do with the price of tea in China?

JazzRJ (jazz_reads) | 6 comments Glad to know it wasn't just me. I wasn't too surprised by the Mormon thing because I read about it on Wiki. It more the Sherlock being like, "this is the killer. Any questions?" (Obviously not a direct quote.) And...then suddenly we are in Salt Lake with the Mormons. That caused me to think, "Sir Doyle say what?" Of course at the end of the book I totally understood why it was written that way. It would have been perhaps a little less entertaining to have the killer tell his whole back story in the police interview. Think about it. A ton of paragraphs in quotations and then losing the realism that Watson would actually be able to quote the man word for word. In a nutshell the writing choice makes since it just doesn't a first glance.

Stephanie | 6 comments I have to agree, totally. And, it's what makes his books so fun to read.

Ashley Chambers | 1 comments I loved this story! The transition was a little weird, but eventually I caught on. After I finished reading it I got a little carried away and read over half of the first volume of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
