Crazy for Young Adult Books discussion

This will be a reread for me, but I remember barely any of it because I read it a while ago.

This is one of my favorite dystopian series, SO GOOD! Neal Shusterman is coming to my YA group early in 2014 (date to be determined) for a Q&A, I'll let you know once it's scheduled in case you have any questions for the author!

I've read through Part I. I've read this book before, but doing this reread is making me really realize how much I've forgotten about it. All I remembered is a general sense of who the characters were, but no details.

Hey guys!! I've read up to page 157.

Intro: I laughed when the read the very first page. I had no clue, whatsoever, what this book was about. I didn't even bother to read the back of the book. But, when I read that the parent's were able to (view spoiler)[ abort their child if they wanted, they could as long as the child was between 13-18 years old. (hide spoiler)] I mean, what? Seriously... I have got read this book. How is that possible. Great topic!

Lev (view spoiler)[ Yes, I totally agree that it sucks that his family convinced/brainwashed him to believe that it was the greatest thing in the world to be tithed and that being unwound would be such a blessing. Dude, I got sooo aggravated. I mean they threw such a freaking huge party for him and then they're like alright bye, like nothing; no feelings; no remorse??

I loved his pastor though. He had the opportunity to tell him the truth as quickly as he could - he told him to RUN. I would've been confused as heck as well, but I'm glad he ran.

I don't know if you've gotten that far, but I got pissed at Lev for being such a coward. On the run, trying to stay alive, he turns Connor and Risa in. (hide spoiler)]

I mean, they even had the audacity to buy plane tickets to get out of town when the authorities pick him up. I mean, what a freaking slap to the face. I'd be ticked off and want to hurt someone. I also feel bad for him because his "girlfriend" hit him with a low blow. Practically she told him that she had things that were way more important than him. Biatch!

I don't think that Connor is a bad guy. I little bit of a trouble maker or just a rebel, but a good guy. Seems kinda hot too. :0) (hide spoiler)]

Risa (view spoiler)[ She seems so freaking cute. I like her a lot. Man, she was so sure of herself when she was about to play on the piano. She was so hard on herself for slightly messing up her recital piece. But it all made sense why she was so freaking hard on herself. Talk about competition. Since she wasn't perfect, the state decided to have her unwound to make room for the kids they are not able to unwind. Seriously???

The scene with the baby. I'm proud of her to stepping up to the plate and taking care of the baby as best as she could. (hide spoiler)]

Scene (view spoiler)[ The whole disastrous scene with the bus that Risa was one, the car that Lev was in, and the pursuit of Connor was freaking awesome!!! loved it, loved it, loved it!

The chaotic scene at the school - man, I'm glad that they bumped into the teacher who was willing to help total strangers with a baby. *applause*

And the old lady..... I love her. She may look weak because of her cane, that lady has got some wit and smarts. She's cool. (hide spoiler)]

I'm partway through part 2. I will come back and post spoilers once I finish that part. I'm also reading another book, and I'm going to finish that other book before I come back to this book.

I just finished this book. I thought it was really good.

It was very tough reading all the crap that these unwinds have to go through to stay alive, but in the end, i think i would have chosen to run away as well and hope to live.

Connor and Risa are both lovable. I hope to read more about them in the next book. Roland got what was coming to him. Lev, I really didn't expect all that from him. He grew on me and I hope I like what I read about him in the next book too.

So sorry I haven't been around on this one. I am so behind with audiobooks and this one kind of slipped my mind. I will try to get it done soon so I can join for book two. I will come and post my thoughts, hopefully later this month.

Yes. I agree. I liked that too. Man, I bet it sucked to be his parents. I can only imagine how it would feel after signing the papers and then realizing that maybe it wasn't the best thing to do. I hope it ate them up and they didn't go on that cruise! hehe.
