I said last year I'd like to write another book. I did, and I'm going to be publishing it in a few months :]

This year I'd like to write atleast two. I'd like to also post a blog once a week, as well as start my book reviews on youtube. The first 5 will be the five books I've already reviewed on my blog.

What are your writing hopes for 2014? :]

message 2: by Mark (new)

Mark Bordner With my first release coming out this year, my hope is to keep focused enough to concentrate on its sequel.

@Jennifer, Marketing and networking took up alot of my time this year :] Mostly testing things that worked and things that didn't. Now, I feel like I can get to my goals easier in 2014 by focusing on the platforms that worked really well :3 Let me know if you need any help with anything.

That's so funny I just wrote a blog this morning on this exact same subject to be posted later haha.

@Jennifer Yay! Thanks a great goal to check off :D

Last year my goal was to finish my book, and I finished two…so :check: ;D This year I really hope to get an agent :fingers crossed: and finish Book three in this series. Also, I want to start vlogging on YT (still working out the deets on that though) and I think i've decided that I want to put up a synopsis/sample chapters of my book on my site…but I don't really know how to do that…so…I hope I figure it out lol

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments My goals are to write two books and a novella.

I'm with Jennifer - would love to know what Bisky and Nicole found the most effective marketing tool. I've spent lots of time on social media, done book signings, gone to author events, but find it's hard to say what actually works.

message 6: by Edwina (new)

Edwina (edwinathewriter) | 4 comments @Bisky Well my New Year's Writing Resolution is to finish writing my first novel and to be able to edit it while writing the sequel to it. That's one of my New Year's Writing Resolutions and the other is to be able to write more. I have been writing a little these days due to writer's block that has mucked my brain from writing.

Resolution... what's that? Oh the things you vow to do but you set aside a few months later? Yep, that's how I'm good at keeping them. :(

So I'll make it easy on me.
Resolution number one: finish my sequel (ON TIME).
Resolution number two: mow down my 'to read' list.
Resolution number three: Decide which direction I should go with book 3. (The end of book two gives me too much leeway.)

Heidi Barnes | 86 comments Mine was to get my series published, which is done. Now I have two books that I am currently working on and hope to have them out by June. Also start working on sequels which I hope to get one out the beginning of 2015.

J. David Clarke (clarketacular) | 418 comments I've set some goals as far as the productivity I'd like to achieve, but as far as resolutions, I'd like to focus on making sure that I put out the absolute best product I can create. I'd resolve to redouble my efforts to find new channels where I can promote my work and try to get the word out even more. And I'd resolve to create and maintain positive relationships with my readers, because in the end, that's what it's really all about.

message 10: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Herbert | 29 comments @J Thanks for the reminder to keep quality in mind.

I'm always taking craft courses but am seriously considering taking the (rather expensive) Margie Lawson Immersion Class in 2014. Margie's worked with bestsellers and these small classes meet in-person for several days. If anyone has experience with this class, I'd love to hear from you!

message 11: by Jack (new)

Jack Strandburg | 51 comments To write something every day on my current novel project, short story, flash fiction, and blog, even if it is only 500 words on each!

message 12: by Jack (new)

Jack Strandburg | 51 comments Oh, yes, and to read at least one to two books per month. I guess I can forget about sleeping!

message 13: by Brian (new)

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments My resolution is to write something every day. I want to finish editing my novel and get it out on amazon. I want to start attending writer's conferences in the area. I need to get business cards made, to hand out at those conferences. I have worked hard at making myself available to readers through social media and my blog this year. I want to continue to have good interactions with those people that wish to interact.

message 14: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Willows (brittanymwillows) My goal this year is to improve my writing skill and complete the second book in my science fiction trilogy, which is about thirty thousand words long at this point. :) I also hope to be able to sort out the storyline for the third book so when I eventually get onto that, I won't have any major changes to make during the first round of editing.

I'm glad everyone has such positive writing resolutions ^-^

And with marketing its all about using your strengths to your advantage I think. Networking is your main goal, talk to people. It's finding the platforms to find them, which most suit you is the hardest to figure out :] Ive not been so active lately since ive been trying to get my book polished but that will change in a few months. I'm hoping to attract a lot more people to the forum:]

Oh and with promotion, I think its helpful to have continuous goals :]

message 16: by Janna G. Noelle (new)

Janna G. Noelle (jannagnoelle) My resolution is to finish my WIP (the one I resolved to finish last year). I'm almost done, so that shouldn't take any longer than March (I hope...). I also want to learn how to revise and create the outline for my WIP's follow-up novel.

@Janna I think art takes time so I wouldnt worry about it taking too long ^-^

@Debbie I hope so :3

@Perri I'm with you on that one, as final edits creep closer figuring out how to amazon is alittle daunting :x

My goals are similar to those of others x3

I want to finish the draft of my current work-in-progress and start the first draft of a new novel. :3 This summer I shall work myself hard!

message 20: by Jevon (new)

Jevon Knights (jevonknights) I want to publish my first book either traditional or indie (almost finished), start posting short stories, do more guest posting to build an audience, and start my second book.

It looks like a big bite now that I've seen it in writing...

Seeing a written copy in front of you can boost the motivation. :3

message 22: by Carl (new)

Carl It's great to see everyone here be supportive.

My plan is to write excellent fiction.

message 23: by Jorja (new)

Jorja Oliva (jorjao2013) | 6 comments I published my first at the closing of 2013 and have started my second. My plans are to promote one and finish two...I will admit I feel I'm not able to give the attention to each one as much as I'd like...any suggestions on getting rid of the guilt?

message 24: by Ann (new)

Ann Thorrson (ann_thorrson) | 2536 comments Mod
Think of your ultimate aim, is it to promote this one book as it's one you are more confident in. Or is it to finish this next one as it might push your writing ability to the place you want it to be. You can alsp set up a schedule, dividing writing and promotion between the two. Having a promotion wednesday for example where you only promote :3
