Another fun-filled challenge involving loads of reading : The 2014 Monthly Key Word Challenge!!

In this challenge, particular Key Words will be assigned to each month and all participants will have to read books relating to the key words for that month.



Start date:1st January, 2014
End date:31st December, 2014

Here are the monthly key words!!

January- Beginnings, cold, freeze (so read something related to ice and new beginnings)
February- Love, happy endings, tear-jerker (read something which makes you cry or something romantic)
March- Luck, magic
April- Heat, mission
May- Mystery, murder
June- Birthdays, parties, road-trip
July- Dreams, spy
August- Heartbreak, parents
September- Fright, fashion
October- Rewards, dancing, happiness
November- Forever, crime
December- Christmas, gifts, endings

INSTRUCTIONS:

=>Pick up one clue assigned to each month and read any book related to that key word. Of course, the more key words you read about, the more fun you'll have!!

=>It is not compulsory to complete each month's key words, but make an effort to complete the entire challenge.

All suggestions, updates and queries to be made in this thread itself.

Feb - Norwegian Wood- was a very satisfactory read, though a bit gloomy with all the unrequited love theme
March - The Fault in Our Stars- about cancer patients whom luck hasn't favored
April - I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban- Mission (a teenager on a deadly mission to further female education in Taliban infested Pakistan)
May - Mystery/Murder - The Devotion of Suspect X
June - birthday/party/road trip - The Long Haulfinally I got hold of a book with a road trip undergone by a family at vacation, though with hilariously disastrous results.
July - dream/spy - Business Doctors: Management Consulting Gone Wild-spying on financial aspect of businesses, A Game of Thrones
August - Heartbreak, Parents - Anna Karenina,One Plus One
September - fright/fashion - Fright -readers as well as characters in a perpetual state of fright in this book The Handmaid's Tale
October - rewards, dancing, happiness - There is no happiness or dancing here, but Amy used to reward Nick with a gift if he successfully completed the treasure hunt on their anniversary. So till I find a better entrant to this category, I stick with Gone Girl
November - forever, crime - Knots and Crosses- serial killer abduction/murder
December - Christmas, gifts, endings - A Christmas Carol

okay Ruchi thank u for informing..this month m reading the Joy luck Club by Amy Tan..its about 4 women who left China during Japenese invasion. They form a club to renew their memories, play mah jong, eat n celebrate their today.. forty yrs late when one of the member dies her daughter joins the club in her mother's place to discover the secrets of mother's past n her lifelong wish. It is going good.

Well, I've read White Fang by Jack London in January and it was really cold book (like Alaska-cold). Now I'm reading Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (Feb) and there's more love than dystopia, so, I guess, it counts.:]

Interesting ! Rather it is such a well-made task, that over the period of 12 months, if followed religiously, one would end up reading probably a plethora of genres and a spectrum of emotions. Well done Ruchi !

I will update my progress in this post, but before I go about with it, I have a small question. Do we have to read a particular key word only in that particular month ? (Eg. Do I have to read something related to 'dancing' only in October ? Can I read so in other months and update it under October ?)

Yes, that's all right. It would've been better if u stuck to reading the clues in the same month, but it's all right, you can do what you said:)
