message 2: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Hi I am Nancy from New Jersey and I am a bookaholic. And proud of this life long obsession. I am a former high school teacher, married to the same man for 43 years and the mother of one married daughter. Besides reading and spending time at Goodreads, I substitute teach, play tennis, am active at our Temple and love Goodreads and the many books which have been recommended and our general talk about them.

I look forward to getting to know many of the members here and good luck on all of your challenges.

Mara (marapalumbo) | 39 comments Hello everyone! I've been following this group for a while, but have been too shy to post very much. My name is Mara and I recently moved back to my hometown in eastern Washington after ten years in California. I love reading, both regular books and audio books. My favorite genres are historical fiction, fantasy, post apocalyptic fiction, thriller. I want to read more classics this year, too.

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1789 comments Hi Mara, I'm just north of you in BC. :)

Don't be shy about posting. This is possibly the friendliest group I've ever joined!

message 5: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments Nancy, did I mention that you share my sister's name? She's 7 years younger than me and I got to name her.

Welcome Mara! Don't be shy. We don't bite.

Tasha Welcome Mara. I agree with Dawn, this is a really friendly group so post away! :)

message 9: by CatWrangler (new)

CatWrangler | 34 comments Hello everyone, I am Ema, 48, a schoolteacher, from Serbia and live with only one hubby and only one cat but two sons.

I do a lot of my reading in English.

I appreciate the fact that you don't bite but also the challenges, interesting ideas for each month and buddy reads. You seem to have it all. I would like to take part.

I don't get how the TBR topplers work, at least not yet.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Welcome Mara and Ema!
Well, as one of the Meanies (Janice and I have been dubbed such as we make sure people stick to the rules in our challenges), sometimes I appear to bite. But think of it more as a friendly nibble.
Lovely to have you join us :D

Funny but at one time I was the only Nancy it seemed. Now I find there are lots of Nancys. Does your sister have a nickname? There was only one person who called me Nanny - a man I taught with. To be honest I am happiest when everybody leaves me alone. LOL

message 14: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) BTW - I did join the Chunksters Challenge and am sure I will join some others. For now, I must tell you how much I am enjoying this group and all of the members who write here and have answered my questions.

message 15: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments Welcome Ema & Bella!

Ema, the TBR Topplers are a read-a-thon. We have them every other month and alternate between 24 hour ones and week long ones. The next one will be in February and it will be a week long. There will be guidelines posted that will help you pick the books you want to read. They are a lot of fun.

I usually call her Nance (one syllable). Sometimes, when I'm being smart I'll sing out, "Nancy Ancy with the fancy pantsy." She has to put up with a lot from me. Hehehehe!

My sister's name is Nancy. Almost everyone calls her Nance except for me. I call her Nancy.

You can also call me Nancy although I love the idea of being called Nance. To tell the truth, you can call me anything but not late for dinner.

Removed Removed | 74 comments Hello All, I've been posting for a bit, but to make an introduction... My name is Scott and I'm from Nova Scotia Canada. The book bug re-bit me about a year and half ago, and then I got an eReader and away I went. I stumbled onto Goodreads.com by "sheer dumb luck" (in my best Minerva McGonagall voice...which sounds more like Vernon Dursley...lol). Looking forward to a wicked good year of reading, and currently working on the first of my "Chunksters", Sophie's Choice

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments You may have dived into the discussion boards, Scott, but it's never too late to throw in a little introduction. I hope Winter hasn't been too nasty to you on your side of the country. We're buried under more snow than we've seen in many years on this side of the country.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Welcome Ema, Bella, and Scott! We like to have fun, and offer some great challenges. There's something for everyone. I'm looking forward to snooping and finding books to add to my tbr - that's one of our favorite ways to get to know each other :)

message 29: by Ms. Becky (new)

Ms. Becky (msbecky) | 2 comments Hi there
I'm Becky from Wisconsin. I'm looking forward to being a member of this book club - hoping that it keeps me reading steadily as I did when I was younger. I was recently gifted a Kindle, and that helps me to read more, though I find that I have a love/hate relationship with it. At times I prefer to hold a book in my hands, and yet I really like the convenience of having access to so many books instantly. I'm about to begin reading Burial Rights...

Actually the snow we got yesterday is waist high where it drifted, hopefully tho being on the Atlantic it will melt as quickly as it came. :)

message 34: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments Snow is a four letter word - this year more than ever.

message 35: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Welcome everyone!

I heard on the news about the extreme cold and snow in many parts of the US. They also said that the weather on your side of the world causes exceptionally warm weather here: it's 14 degrees Celcius here (57 F), which is almost spring-like, compared to the average of 5 C (41 F) (with often snow and freezing temperatures) for this time of year. But I'm not complaining!

I hope all the snow will go away soon. Or at least enough to not be bothered by it anymore.

Erin Marsh (goddessofchaos) | 7 comments Hi everyone! I'm Erin. I am a teen librarian in Holland, Michigan, a lovely small city on the east coast of Lake Michigan.Personally, I love to read, swim, tie dye, and make mosaics. I'm learning to grow a butterfly garden, knit, and spin my own yarn. I have two sons in high school and have been married to my best friend for 22 years. I joined this group because of the fabulous Aussie challenge! I'm looking forward to digging in.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Welcome Erin! The Tim Winton books all look interesting. I see lots of readers have True History of the Kelly Gang marked to read too. This Austrailian Challange has really offered up some great titles and authors for all of us.

message 42: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Welcome Erin! One of the nice things about this group is that we are challenged to read out of our " comfort zone " and discover new authors and genres.

message 43: by Erin (new)

Erin Marsh (goddessofchaos) | 7 comments I am a reader with pretty broad and eclectic tastes--I will enjoy the challenge of trying new authors and genres. Started Jasper Jones last night; as a teen librarian I thought I should knock that one out first, then get to my adult lit "candy." Both the Winton and the Carey are on shelf at my library. I may take them both home this weekend.

message 44: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, how lucky you are, Erin. I want to be a librarian in my next life!

message 45: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Welcome Erin! Lovely to see you have 3 big aussie reads there. All on my to read list, but it just seems to grow faster than I can read. Can wait to see which is your top scoring :)

Hi Erin! How are you liking Jasper Jones so far? I just added both Dirt Music and the True History of the Kelly Gang to my ever-growing TBR list. Nice to meet you and the other new members who have introduced themselves in this thread. Welcome to YLTO :D

Janice (jamasc) | 59921 comments Hi Jen! Welcome to YLTO! Maybe our challenges can help whittle down that pile. On second hand, the challenge will be to keep that pile from growing once you see all the great books people are reading.
