If we only know the year when the artist was born and it is impossible to find out the month and day, why does the page automatically put January 1st? Can you set up the system to ignore adding the month and day to default? I'm just wondering because there are some ancient writers for which we do not know exact birthdate...

Unfortunately, that's the way GR is set up to handle dates right now; there have been requests to allow less specific date display, but they're still in the queue somewhere....
