Congrats on being so close to reaching your goal. If I manage to reach my goal this year it will be a race to the finish line, lol. I may have bit off more than I can handle this year.

Thom Swennes (Yorrick) | 592 comments What is your 2014 Goodreads goal?

message 153: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments 212 books. Last year my goal was 200, had no trouble meeting that one, lol.I have read 129 so far this year, I am 8 behind where I need to be.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Linda wrote: "I have finished 129 books so far. Reading #130 now. I am currently running 5 books behind the pace I should be on. As I was 10 behind, I am making some progress catching up. I got behind when I..."

Sorry about your mom. Sounds very difficult and of course busy. Hope she feels better soon.

message 155: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments Thanks Erin. We are hoping to come away with a date for her surgery when we have a meeting with her medical team this Thursday.

message 156: by Eric (new)

Eric Mesa (djotaku) | 63 comments I surpassed my goal by about 10. Low compared to some of you - 23 - but I'm finishing my masters, work a full-time job, and have a wife and kids. I haven't been raising it because I want to see for next year what I had it at and by how much I passed it. That'll help me set the goal next year.

message 157: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments Lol, I am surprised that you find time to read at all. How old are your kids?

message 158: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 411 comments I have 67 books on my currently reading list

message 159: by K (new)

K | 286 comments Wow Sonya! That's incredible! I thought six was ambitious.

Eric Mesa (djotaku) | 63 comments Linda wrote: "Lol, I am surprised that you find time to read at all. How old are your kids?"

Typo. Just one. 2.5 years old. But she's a handful!

message 161: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments Lol, at they age they definitely seem like more than one.

message 162: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments Sonya wrote: "I have 67 books on my currently reading list"

Lol, Sonya. Why do you have that many listed as currently reading?

message 163: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments Sonya wrote: "I have 67 books on my currently reading list"

Is that books that you started and then decided not to finish or what

message 164: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 418 comments I'm currently 76 of 125 which makes me 5 books behind. I suspect I won't make goal this year.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Karen M wrote: "I'm currently 76 of 125 which makes me 5 books behind. I suspect I won't make goal this year."

Yes, you will! None of that negative talk now :)

message 166: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shananigansreads) | 355 comments I've been busy in the real world lately so my reading time has been reduced to just a few minutes a day (cause I can't go completely without) I'm still ahead by 3 at 95/134. Hopefully life will slow down soon because I miss quality time with my reading chair.

message 167: by Laura (new)

Laura | 55 comments I'm not expecting for increase my goal from the current 120, though I do expect to read more than that.

message 168: by K (new)

K | 286 comments I am currently two books ahead of schedule.

message 169: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments Well I have caught up and am ack on track with my goal total, lol. Hope I can stay there. Mom had surgery yesterday so I ave been reading while just sitting at hospital with her.

message 170: by Lupe (new)

Lupe Dominguez (lupedominguez) I am, unfortunately, 45 books behind schedule. Life, as it seems, does not seem amenable to me finishing 150 books in a year. Maybe I will have to just get back to it!

I feel pretty lucky, I'm only 4 books away from hitting my goal of 250 and still 4 months left in the year to read more.

ASP | 61 comments Joseph wrote: "I feel pretty lucky, I'm only 4 books away from hitting my goal of 250 and still 4 months left in the year to read more."

Oh my, how I envy you... how do you manage to read so much? and I guess you also work, sleep, eat, see friends, girlfriend/wife, have even children?? There is always a whole ocean wide gap between how many books I would like to read, and how many I actually manage to...

Good foe you Kiera.

Joseph that is fantastic.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Joseph wrote: "I feel pretty lucky, I'm only 4 books away from hitting my goal of 250 and still 4 months left in the year to read more."

Wow, and here I was proud of hitting my goal of 100. I'd love to read that high

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 1866 comments Mod
I have to be honest, I have a slight advantage since reading is part of my job. I'm a Youth Services Librarian. BTW, since I posted yesterday I've read three more books so now I'm only one away from my goal. What can I say, all my free time is usually spent reading. It's the way I cool down at the end of the day, I pretty much go through a book an evening.

Thank you all. Got a question for you. Think I should raise my challenge number or just keep adding to it to see how far past it I end up by the end of the year?

message 181: by Thom (new)

Thom Swennes (Yorrick) | 592 comments Keep it at 250 and add some whipped cream with a big red cherry on top. No pressure, just pleasure.

message 182: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shananigansreads) | 355 comments I'm with Thom. You can up it next year.

message 183: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments I agree. You met your goal and it is an impressive number. Just read for pleasure and see where you end up for 2014.

message 184: by ASP (new)

ASP | 61 comments I also agree... let's see how many you can read
If I could read as much as you my TBR stack would last less than two years and then I could go to a bookshop with two large (empty) shopping bags. Aww that would be a dream come true for me!!

Why can't you go shopping for more books now. It will just increase your TBR like the rest of us, lol

message 186: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 1866 comments Mod
I fear I will never get through my TBR stack for even as quickly as I do read, new titles come to my attention to be added to the list! At least I will never be without something to read, that's for sure.

message 187: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments I would need to be immortal to have a ghost of a chance of reading all in my TBR. I seem to buy more than I read every month.

ASP | 61 comments Linda wrote: "ASP wrote: "I also agree... let's see how many you can read

Thank you Linda, you are so supportive in my madness...:)
and, same as you, I would need to be immortal (and with good eyes) to go through them all...

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I'd just leave it at the 250 and you can notice how much you go over and the statistics of when you reached that number.

message 190: by ASP (new)

ASP | 61 comments hi there, I like this thread please don't let it lapse into oblivion ;)

message 191: by ASP (new)

ASP | 61 comments Awww I just saw I am 6 books behind schedule, but I'm reading a longish book (The Goldfinch, by D. Tartt), and next week I am going to be on holidays so I will try to catch up a little. I am thinking of taking a H. Murakami novel with me, among a few others (one never knows, what if you realize on the plane that you don't like the style of the author?)...

message 192: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shananigansreads) | 355 comments I've have lost almost all of my cushion and am now only one book ahead.

message 193: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments I really need to read a few shorter books real quick, lol. My goal s 212 and I gave read 155 o far. Would Lmost have to read a book a day. Such a shame that I prefer books with over 300 pages. I like to reall get sucked into the story

message 194: by K (new)

K | 286 comments I am on track.

message 195: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (herbtiff) I have 3 books left to finish up my challenge for the year...

Thom wrote: "Keep it at 250 and add some whipped cream with a big red cherry on top. No pressure, just pleasure."

So far that whipped cream is 25 books high and still growing. :-) It's going to be interesting to see what the final book of the year will be for that cherry on top.

message 197: by Taylor (new)

Taylor At one point I was seven books ahead but am now two books behind. Yikes! Looks like The Game of Thrones series will have to wait.

message 198: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments Save the GOT series for cold winter weekends. A fire, a lap blanket and a glass of wine handy, perfect for starting a long book.

message 199: by Lin (new)

Lin | 266 comments I had gotten several books behind myself but am currently back on track, lol.

message 200: by Taylor (new)

Taylor You paint a lovely picture Linda. Almost makes me wish it was winter already.
