It's time to sign up for the 2014 Goodreads Challenge. I've set a goal for 100 again, though I might end up adjusting that down. What's your goal for the year?

message 2: by Karen (new)

Karen (2noelle) I went down from 50 the past two years to 30 for 2014; more realistic for me.

message 3: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments I set it at 120. My reading slowed down toward the end of 2013, so I feel comfortable with this number.

message 4: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 58284 comments Same as always...50.

message 5: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Douglas (teachgiftedkids) | 199 comments Same as always for me too: 100, even though these last couple of years I've reached 125.

message 6: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (lynnali) | 524 comments I always set my goal at 48 books, or 4 books a month. It's comfortable and allows me the freedom concentrate on longer or heavier books without feeling pressure to just get through it. Last year I finished with 65 books, but I'm not sure I can continue with that pace, so I'll strive for 48 and just see where it takes me.

I've set at 220, more than 2013 and less than 2012 (that was an stressed year).

message 8: by Chuck (new)

Chuck | 285 comments I've set mine to 150. Hopefully I can read more than that.

message 9: by Britney (new)

Britney (tarheels) | 142 comments I set mine to 35 this year since I have other projects going.

message 10: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1192 comments I'm starting with a goal of 225 books for 2014, but may adjust that as the year progresses.

message 11: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (mgauffant) | 63 comments I set my goal at 40-same as last year.
I got pretty close last year.
Less TV, more reading is what I'd like to do in 2014!

message 12: by Karen M (last edited Jan 03, 2014 02:59PM) (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments I'm at 125 this year again. I barely met goal last year so no way am I going any higher this year.

message 13: by ❂ Murder by Death (last edited Jan 03, 2014 07:20PM) (new)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I think I'm going to up mine from last year to 200. I read so many more books last year than I thought I'd have time for, so I'll see how I go with 200. I had 200 in 2012 and it totally stressed me out.

message 14: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Last year my goal was 120 and I increased it a few times as I kept surpassing the original and new goals. Set 2014's goal to 130.

message 15: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I set mine to 208 but will probably adjust that as the year progresses. I read over 300 books in 2013 but at times it felt a bit too much...

message 16: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (tribalcat) | 307 comments I'm going for 100 again this year. Last year, I hit 134, but I'm trying to save time for writing.

message 17: by Nell (new)

Nell | 1223 comments My goal is 52 books this year. Last year I read 58, 2 short of my goal of 60 books. This year I plan to read some of the longer fiction books in my TBR. I don't want to feel like I'm rushing through or to pick shorter books just to meet this challenge.

message 18: by Marj (last edited Jan 04, 2014 10:28AM) (new)

Marj | 19 comments My goal is going to be 100, though I may increase it as I go. I know I read at least 70-80 books last year (and wrote reviews for 69 of them on my blog) so I know I can read at least 100! I have over 300 in my TBR pile...and I just keep adding to it, so I have plenty to read!

message 19: by Linda (new)

Linda (rudylkr) | 8978 comments I set my goal at 110. This is back to my normal goal after being down last year.

message 20: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 1887 comments I'm going for 100. I know I read more than that, but I've been doing a lot of rereads lately, and those don't count for my GR total since I don't change the date of my initial read. Also, I have the bad habit of forgetting to post all my reads so they don't officially count. Maybe I'll be better at that this year.

message 21: by Susan (new)

Susan I set my challenge for 150. I read 120 in 2013 and I'm now retired, so I think I can make my goal.

message 22: by Amy (new)

Amy I'll set in 100. It's around what I've read this year. Wish me luck!!

Wow, lots of people accepting the challenge this year. I'm in awe of all those trying for 150 or more. I've finished two so far, so I'm already two ahead of where I was this time last year.

message 24: by Linda882 (new)

Linda882 | 191 comments I think 30 is a realistic target for me.

message 25: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 218 comments I'm in the 150 category, too. Last year I read 175 which is A LOT for me. Guess I must have had a quiet life last year. I take care of my 94 year old mom and, although her health is good, she sleeps a lot. I've certainly picked up many good books at his site. Thanks for all those who post and review.

message 26: by Moondance (new)

Moondance (moondance120) | 288 comments I have tried for 120 the past two years and actually read more than expected. I will go for 125 even though I read something close to 140 in 2013.

Leslie aka StoreyBook Reviews (hugbandit7) | 170 comments last year I set it at 140 and read 192. This year I'm increasing a bit to 150.

January check-in: Ten books reads, two ahead of schedule. Yay! ☺

message 29: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments 9 books read....1 behind schedule! :-(

message 30: by Linda (new)

Linda (rudylkr) | 8978 comments 10 books read - 1 ahead of schedule! Not bad since I spent the first half of the month a book or two behind.

message 31: by Marisa, Cozy Mysteries Assistant Moderator (new)

Marisa (moretta) | 4144 comments Mod
24 reads, 5 ahead of schedule ☺

message 32: by Leslie (new)

Leslie 21 read, 3 ahead of schedule

message 33: by Susan (new)

Susan 9 out of 150, 3 behind schedule.

message 34: by Misha (new)

Misha (itz_mie) 5 out of 30

message 35: by Britney (new)

Britney (tarheels) | 142 comments Unfortunely i have read only 1 book.
It's been a busy January for me. Hopefully it will die down soon so I can hit the books hard.

message 36: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments 4 books behind. Shoveling snow is cutting into my reading time!! LOL

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) 20 read, 3 ahead. :)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27504 comments Mod
It's interesting to see where everyone is at the start of the challenge. For those who are behind, don't give up. I was down 5 or 6 books at one point last year and managed to catch up. ☺

Leslie aka StoreyBook Reviews (hugbandit7) | 170 comments so far: 23 of 150 books, 15% and 9 books ahead of schedule.

although almost finished with another.

message 40: by Chuck (new)

Chuck | 285 comments 15 of 150 books

1 book ahead of schedule

message 41: by Marj (new)

Marj | 19 comments I've read 12 of 100 books, 3 ahead of schedule. Of course, the bad weather that kept me inside made it a lot easier to get reading done!

message 42: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (debbiegray) | 316 comments I kept my reading goal at 50 this year as I always do, but last year I read 85 which really surprised me. At 50 I don't feel quite so pushed and just enjoy the reads. So far I've read 11 this year.

message 43: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 797 comments 25 out of 195, 7 ahead .

message 44: by Sharmon (new)

Sharmon (tpgirl) | 77 comments I upped mine from 52 to 60. I am at seven ....2 ahead f schedule. I did decide to include 12 classics. The first one Pride and Prejudice did slow me down a bit. Cozies can be read much quicker.

message 45: by Heather L , Cozy Mysteries Moderator (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 27504 comments Mod
Sharmon: The classics defintiely tend to take a bit longer. At least P&P is worth the time! ☺

message 46: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ravendarakai) I set my goal at 41.

message 47: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Judging by how much I read in January, I have updated to 96.

Two months down, still doing well. I am 19/100, or three books ahead.

Leslie aka StoreyBook Reviews (hugbandit7) | 170 comments as of 4/1 I've read 62 of 150 and am 25 books ahead

Way to go Leslie!

I have read 28/100 as of today, four books ahead.
