A Team | 19 comments As a sci fi fan, you must have fantasized about meeting aliens in real life ... and also checked out SETI updates on a routine basis.

What if you suddenly find out that First Contact is in the near future ?

A Team | 19 comments Good response ! Definitely, my craziest thread. Would anyone like to dig into this field a bit more ? Maybe create a list ( which may not exactly be off topic for a sci-fi book club ;) There seems to be a huge number of these type of books listed in Goodreads itself.

If you want to trash the books, go ahead. But I am actually looking for informed, critical and honest reviews by official / unofficial experts. Here is a suggested starting point :

Exopolitics: Politics, Government, and Law in the Universe

EXOPOLITICS is the evolution of Alfred Lambremont Webre's groundbreaking work as a futurist at the Stanford Research Institute, where in 1977 he directed a proposed extraterrestrial communication study project for the Carter White House. Exopolitics may turn the dominant view of our Universe upside down. It reveals that we live on an isolated planet in the midst of a populated, evolving, and highly organized inter-planetary, inter-galactic, and multi-dimensional Universe society. It explores why Earth seems to have been quarantined for eons from a more evolved Universe society. Exopolitics suggests specific steps to end our isolation, by reaching out to the technologically and spiritually advanced civilizations that are engaging our world at this unique, challenging time in human history.

Flying Saucers & Science: A Scientist Investigates the Mysteries of UFOs

Flying Saucers & Science: A Scientist Investigates the Mysteries of UFOs: Interstellar Travel, Crashes & Government Cover-ups is a comprehensive look at the scientific data on the UFO phenomenon. Nuclear physicist & lecturer Stanton T. Friedman has distilled over 40 years of research, sharing his work on a variety of classified advanced nuclear & space systems. He answers relevant physics questions in lay terms, establishing that travel to nearby stars is possible without violating physical laws. Photographs of advanced propulsion systems, on some of which he worked, are included. He also presents data demonstrating the human ability to withstand high accelerations. He shows that government policy on this subject has been to provide false claims & disinformation, a kind of cosmic Watergate. Flying Saucers & Science presents data from large-scale scientific UFO studies few have detailed. It deals with cover-ups as well as reasons for aliens to visit Earth without landing on the White House lawn. He criticizes the SETI program & details the antipathy of some sf writers to UFOs. False notions about those who believe in the reality of alien visitors & the adequacy of coverage by journalistic & scientific communities are reviewed. The book reveals what technologies might allow interstellar travel, where aliens may originate, why they visit & why governments may cover them up. Readers will never feel the same about UFOs again.

Project Moon Dust: Beyond Roswell

"We have been told that the US Air Force investigated UFOs for more than 20 years & never found any information to suggest they were real, that they posed a threat to the US or that they were from other solar systems. That is what we were told. But such is not the case."
In 1953, a classified government was proposed that would deal with the recovery of "returning space debris" launched from other nations. But why did the Air Force consider such a program necessary when Sputnik, the 1st Soviet satellite, would not be launched until four years later? Since the initiation of the top secret Project Moon Dust, the government--specifically the USAF--has engaged in continuous covert yet highly documented official investigations into UFO phenomena, which have included often dangerous interfaces with extraterrestrial crafts in the skies above our nation & supersonic pursuits that have put pilots'' lives at risk; pursuits that were observed by many reliable eyewitnesses.
The coauthor of UFO Crash at Roswell, a definitive account of America's most famous extraterrestrial encounter, Air Force Reserve Captain Kevin D. Randle uses his unique access to classified military documents to go deep inside the continuing cover-up & bring out the facts: The real contents of the infamous Project Blue Book files. The recorded truth about the fateful summer of 1952 when a record number of unexplained sightings led to the government's creation of Moon Dust. The Belgium sightings of 1990, one of the most extraordinary events of our age. The covert role of the CIA in UFO research. The truth vs. the official lies about the Kelly-Hopkinville creature report, the Cash-Landrum injury case, the Benwaters encounter, &, of course, Roswell.

Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience

Today, 46 years after the UFO abduction of Betty and Barney Hill, more and more people are convinced that UFOs are real and their existence is being covered up by the government. If you have doubts or questions about the Hill case or alien experiences in general, Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience: The True Story of the World's First Documented Alien Abduction will give you the answers you're searching for.

The 1961 abduction of the Hills stirred worldwide interest, primarily because of the book The Interrupted Journey, the subsequent media coverage, and a 1975 TV movie, The UFO Incident. The case is mentioned in almost all UFO abduction books. It also became a target for debunkers, who still attack it today.

But the complete story of what really happened that day, its effect on the participants, and the findings of investigators has never been told...until now.

In Captured! you'll get an insider's look at the alien abduction, previously unpublished information about the lives of the Hills before and after Barney's death in 1969, their status as celebrities, Betty's experiences as a UFO investigator, and other activities before her death in 2004.

Kathleen Marden, Betty Hill's niece, shares details from her discussions with Betty and from the evidence of the UFO abduction. She also looks at the Hills' riveting hypnosis sessions about their time onboard the spacecraft. The transcripts of these sessions provide insight into the character of the aliens, including their curiosity, their democratic discussions, and their desire to avoid inflicting pain.

In addition, co-author, physicist, and ufologist Stanton T. Friedman, the original civilian investigator of the Roswell Incident, reviews and refutes the arguments of those who have attacked the Hill case, including the star map Betty Hill saw inside the craft and later recreated.

Suppressed Inventions

A scientist with a revolutionary cure for AIDS is incarcerated without explanation. Valuable artifacts are mysteriously misplaced by a prominent archaeological institution. Three celebrated astronauts perish in a suspicious fire after voicing their criticism of the US space program. Yet our world's most powerful agencies hastily dispel these alarming reports as conspiracy theories, and bury them in padlocked archives. The fact is that a suppression syndrome exists in our society.

Suppressed Inventions and Other Discoveries exposes the startling degree of truth behind the rumors. Jonathan Eisen has collected over forty intriguing stories of scientific cover-ups and programs of misinformation concocted to conceal some of the most phenomenal innovations in mankind's history. These no-holds-barred accounts force us to confront the naivete and danger of trusting our academic and political leaders to act always for the common good. Suppressed Inventions and Other Discoveries presents documented evidence that corporate self-interest, scientific arrogance, and political savvy have contrived to keep us in the dark about technological breakthroughs or interplanetary contact that may shift the current balance of power.

Prepare yourself for a revealing look at the research and development to which we've been denied access. Suppressed Inventions and Other Discoveries begins by examining the ties that bind the medical establishment to powerful pharmaceutical corporations. Then it details the struggle of the independent researcher against Orthodox Science and its code of conduct, the Scientific Method. Next, the book investigates the cover-up of information concerning UFOs and extraterrestrial life that's certain to make you reconsider what you thought was science fiction. The final section discusses just a few of the numerous alternate energy resources and fuel savers that, if put on the market today, would soon run the fossil fuel monopolies out of business.

It's clear that we're sorely lacking some vital information. Suppressed Inventions and Other Discoveries is a bold and necessary effort to help us educate ourselves. Our future depends on it.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jonathan Eisen completed his undergraduate education at Oberlin College, and earned his M.A. from the University of Illinois. He worked as an editor for Pantheon Books, the New American Library, and Commonweal Magazine and was the founding publisher of Auckland Institute of Technology Press in New Zealand, where he currently resides.

Mr. Eisen is an investigative journalist who has authored more than fourteen books. He is currently the publisher of Bioethics Press in Australia, and coeditor of What Your Doctor Will Never Tell You, a bimonthly newsletter featuring suppressed medical and health research.

The Secret History of Extraterrestrials: Advanced Technology and the Coming New Race

Explores the role of ETs in the military, government, technology, history, and the coming new age

• Surveys contact with ETs, abductions, alien technology and exopolitics, genetic tampering by ETs, and the history behind the Nazis and UFOs

• Contains interviews with Jesse Marcel, Michael Salla, Paul LaViolette, Robert Bauval, Helen Wambach, and others at the forefront of the ET-derived New Science movement

The extraterrestrial presence on Earth is widening and, as we enter the Aquarian Age, will be admitted officially, causing shock and an urgent universal need to understand the social and technological changes derived from our space brothers. A primer for the explosive advances humanity will experience scientifically and spiritually in the coming years, this compendium explores the ET phenomenon and its influence on humanity past and present.

The book surveys contact with ETs and abduction accounts, unexplained public and undisclosed military technology from aliens including anti-gravity devices, exopolitics (the influence of ETs in human affairs), the Iraqi Stargate, the Hybrid Project of alien interbreeding by abduction, Nazi ties to UFOS and their secret underground base in Antarctica, government cover-ups of alien interactions including Roswell, and the transformation triggered by the Hale-Bopp comet. Based on interviews with people who are witnessing the coming changes as well as those visionaries who are actually bringing them about--including John Mack, Major Jesse Marcel, Paul LaViolette, Robert Bauval, Michael Salla, and Helen Wambach--this book sketches out a breathtaking vision of the planetary revolution just around the corner.

Insiders Reveal Secret Space Programs & Extraterrestrial Alliances

Classified space programs have been an integral part of a complex jigsaw puzzle concerning UFOs, extraterrestrial life, ancient civilizations and advanced aerospace technologies, which have long defied any coherent understanding. Now finally, we have something to put all the pieces together with the disclosures of secret space program whistleblower, Corey Goode. A detailed investigation of Goode’s and other insider testimonies reveals the big picture of a parallel world of secret space programs and extraterrestrial alliances.

Learn from this book: how the Vril/Nazi flying saucer programs in the 1930’s gave birth to the ‘Dark Fleet’; how Operation Paperclip scientists both helped and hindered the development of the US Navy’s ‘Solar Warden’; how the MJ-12 Group was behind the creation of the ‘Interplanetary Corporate Conglomerate’; and how Ronald Reagan was instrumental in the creation of the ‘Global Galactic League of Nations’ space program. Finally, learn how the Sphere Being Alliance and other extraterrestrials interact with these programs. The full disclosure of secret space programs and extraterrestrial alliances will unshackle the chains of deception holding humanity back from reaching its highest potential as galactic citizens.

message 35: by Michal (new)

Michal (michaltheassistantpigkeeper) | 294 comments Vril's in the mix, so I'm thinking more Laser based on the source. (i.e., Vril is from Bulwer-Lytton's 1871 Laser novel The Coming Race. Also where the name Bovril comes from.)

I prefer Madame Blavatsky's secret history of the world over this one (which also included Vril), but each to her/his own.

Even so - it is testification to your intelligence and education, not necessarily to your sanity.

Some of the stupidest people in the world have PhDs, and why is a Caltech PhD higher than one from a similar institution. Like MIT, for example, and how does a PhD in Chemistry, specialising in DNA and chromosomes, make him a Crop Circle/UFO expert?

We've known for decades that intricate crop circles are man made, and simple crop circles have a natural (non extra-terrestrial) source. Animals, weather etc.

Even for the small percentage we can't explain, we don't need to go to the ridiculous extremes of UFOs.
Why would they come extreme distances to make anonymous art in corn fields?

If they are messages from ET to us, then us (sic) are too dumb to decode them ;-) You'd think they'd learn to be more concise.
