Julia (juliastrimer) In the YA genre, I've really enjoyed the Fairyland series by Catherynne M. Valente: So far there are 3 books:

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There
The Girl Who Soared Over Fairyland and Cut the Moon in Two

September is one of my favorite young female protagonists ever. Valente has a fun website devoted just to this series: http://valentefairyland.com/

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Ladies and gents (if there are any), I would highly recommend A.M. Hargrove books. Hargrove . Also she has written a great YA series called The Guardians of Vesturon.

I've added it Kat! I'm looking for something light hearted, I've been reading sad stories for awhile it seems.

Lisa (spirolim) | 118 comments Kaya wrote: "I honestly recommend And the Mountains Echoed Everyone should read at least one Hosseini's book."

I finally got around to reading The Kite Runner not too long ago, and I absolutely loved it! I do plan on reading And the Mountains Echoed at some point this year.

message 19: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (spirolim) | 118 comments Lately I've been re-reading some of my old favorites. Right now, since I'm currently reading them, I would recommend The Amelia Peabody Series by Elizabeth Peters. They are great for mystery lovers and historical fiction lovers alike. If you enjoy a bit of classic adventure with a strong female lead and a bit of humor tied in, then this is the series for you!

Here are the first 6 books in the series (I can't remember, but I think there are 18 in all):
Crocodile on the Sandbank (Amelia Peabody #1) by Elizabeth Peters The Curse of the Pharaohs (Amelia Peabody, #2) by Elizabeth Peters The Mummy Case (Amelia Peabody, #3) by Elizabeth Peters Lion in the Valley (Amelia Peabody, #4) by Elizabeth Peters The Deeds of the Disturber (Amelia Peabody, #5) by Elizabeth Peters The Last Camel Died at Noon (Amelia Peabody, #6) by Elizabeth Peters

And The Mountains Echoed is a bit different than The Kite Runner, but the theme is the same - life in Afghanistan. A lot of readers seem to think this is Hosseini's weakest work, but for me it's the greatest.

Amanda Poppen (mandakpopp) | 4 comments So, I just finished the Divergent series (with the exception of Four, gotta get my hands on it!) Usually dystopians aren't my genre but I LOVED it! The action was great, I loved the relationships and how you could feel the emotions... So, does anyone have any recommendations for books similar?? Can be YA or NA either or(: Thanks in advance!!

message 25: by Kristie (new)

Kristie Amanda - I don't know if you've already read the series, but the most similar I can think of is The Hunger Games series. I also enjoyed the Legend series. Both are YA.

Jess the Shelf-Declared Bibliophile (jessicalewis) This isn't a book recommendation but I wasn't sure where else to put it..this is a challenge recommendation for 2015..

http://www.popsugar.com/love/Reading-...

I plan to do it but was wondering if anyone else is interested in doing it as a group? If so, let me know and I'll be glad to type it up. :)

message 36: by Noreen (new)

Noreen Barr | 9 comments I recently read Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in historical fiction. Be cautious of reviews because it is so hard to write about this book without any spoilers.

message 37: by Marissa (new)

Marissa | 18 comments Hi, everyone! Looking for some recommendations for short stories to read for a book challenge I'm participating in this year. I've read collections like The Secrets of a Fire King by Kim Edwards and The Color Master: Stories by Aimee Bender in the past and enjoyed them, so maybe something along those lines...although I'm open to anything. Any good suggestions?
